Sons of Mars II

Well, this game may drag on further since it seems no one wants to gobble up the Slavic Union and therefore cause a war.

An example!

Habsburgs attack Slavia for their war of aggression.

This causes Slavia's allies the Turks and Albania to come to their aid.

However, in turn, the Habsburgs' allies can still help because they all have a CB on Slavia as well!

So you end up with Slavia, Albania, Turkey, and Echidnas on one side and Habsburgs, Kalmar, United Empire ,and Spain on the other.

Salt has guaranteed Slavia, but at the same time, is allied to the Habsburgs, so it'd have a perdicament...

Olaf would be able to swoop in and scoop up some of Asia; the CIS would not back up Albania per se due to the fact it's defensive pact wouldn't activate, but it could still financially back the Triple Alliance to gain land and influence.

Overall, a mess waiting to happen. If it's not the Balkans, it's Russia causing issues!

NO ICBMS!!!!!

Oh, I don't need an ICBM. All Arakhor has to do is declare war on the Slavic Union... :please:

Yepp. And then all those nice African nations could jump in to support me! Give this turn 24 more hours, or at least until Arakhor responds?

we, the people of Spain ask this of Enerjak:

What is your current opinion of Spain and Florida, and if Florida declares war on me, what will your actions be?

Lord Enerjak, Devourer of Souls, Conqueror of Empires, Usurper of States, Enslaver of Nations, has no opinion in this regard. The Dark Lord, however, harbors no ill will towards any particular nation either; we come in peace as we have unified the South American continent...

...we do, however, reserve the right to abduct and ritually sacrifice any and all dingoes countries possess.

I was under the impression I'd already given spending orders, but if the Habsburgs were to take policing action in Slavia (by GM request), we would expect all our allies, not least of whom are the Salt Empire, to back us up. Would this be forthcoming?

well, since i had the foresight to order extra armies this turn, i guess i can help you out.

but i want to make sure Florida doesn't take half of Spain while we are busy dealing with the European civil war.

We all know the Salt Empire just doesn't wanna get involved in this war since it will lose face either way. ;)

Florida is currently busy with the Mayans... and once the Mayans are gone, they will have to be cautious lest Enerjak gobble them up and form a Pax Knucklesica.

Oh, on a related note. The Kalmar Union and United Empire will go wherever Austria does.

Everynoe knows that guaranteeing a nation's independence means you are guaranteeing them against everyone's aggression except your own. Playing EU III tells you that. :)

So then... shall we finally settle the European Question?!

The Pan-Slavic Union would like Austria to know, we never wanted war and still don't.

Oh, but I'm sure the Habsburgs see plenty of lebensraum in Slavia...

Likewise, Albania likely sees plenty of it in Austria...

Come now. Give in to your greed. Show that there is room for only one alliance in Europa!

Well, by GM request to end the game (which isn't personal in the slightest, Prospo), a mad Austrian general has abruptly risen to power by seizing the capital he was assigned to protect and trapping the Kaiser and all his ministers in the Wien Reichstag. Claus von Stauffenberg has declared himself Imperator of Greater Austria, has cited it manifest destiny to subjugate Russia and has poured all troops not on the Albanian border into Russia to force the Pan-Slavic Union to pay homage to the Imperator and to Greater Austria. The Imperator calls on all of Austria's allies to aid them in pacifying the Russian menace.

Excellent, Arakhor. When this war ends, whenever it does, there will be a unified European alliance... now, who that will be, only time can tell.

Long story short -

Albania, Turkey, and the Echidnas all back up Russia.

The CIS announces it will fund the Albanian war machine.

Kalmar and the United Empire back up the Austrian Empire.

The Salt Empire has conflicted calls to arms - it must honor a guarantee to Slavia, or honor an alliance to Austria.

President Matthew Barabas of Spain: oh, great. the war started when an austrian of questionable mental stability seized control of the throne, and attacked Russia, of all nations!

wait... does anyone have a sense of deja vu? i swore, in another world, this happened.

oh never mind. the Spanish Senate will vote on whether to join the war or not.

Hahahah. I hadn't thought of it in quite those terms...
