SP8 - Slaves of the Pyramid PTW 1.21f Emperor OPEN SG

Whoa, a veritable slaughter!

Great job Matt, I didn't think that the French and English were actually going to have their cores wiped out in the next 10! :goodjob:

Btw Despot, giving the Indians two lux for a mildly-cheap price probably wasn't a good idea anyway: it lets them run fewer entertainers and thus research must faster! Not good. Not a biggie though, we're going to overrun them in fast order anyway :)

The next leader might want to investigate if, by adding 4 workers to Kyoto, we can get it up to 20spt, and thus a WC every turn.

Also, we probably want to help our good friends the Ottomans and Japanese out a little now. Their poor cities are surrounded by jungle, and now we're friends with them we'd like to chop a little jungle down, or at least build a road through it. Just to help them out, you know? :)

Good luck hotrod! Since we can't build settlers, Domination might not be easy to obtain; we might have to go for conquest!

Sp8

50AD (0): My how the people are drawn to the pyramid. With 2 turns left on our gems deal with India it will allow a strong force of Wc to move toward the front and hit India fast and hard. Likewise Japan shall feel the our wrath of the Pharoh. England will give up Warwick for Peace but who wants a corrupt city that can't be defended. The war with England continues.

70 AD (1): Satsuma builds a barracks and can start getting out vet units but it needs some jungle clearing for growth with out a harbor. Start a harbor. Change Orleans to a courthouse and fire the entertainer. MOve units to the front a swift attack on India in another turn.

90 BC (2): Edrine builds temple starts barracks. Osaka builds temple start cat. Tokyo barracks starts spear. Units are in position to take Madras and Hyderabad next turn and move on Kagoshima and Edo in 2 more turns.

110 AD (3): Declare on India and capture Hyderabad with no loses and 1 retreat. Capture Madras with 1 WC loss. Will Declare war on Japan next turn as a preemptive measure some archers are approaching. Should take Edo and Kasgoshima. And the jungle has almost been cleared to allow the mighty WC to pass on toward Edo.

130 AD (4): Capture Jaipur. A stack of WC are resting in Madras and will move out next turn towards calcuta. Worker stack to help clear the jungle near Edo.

150 AD (5): India will not meet with us. The stack is almost fully healed but I want more units ready to move on Calcutta, India has swords and they are coming. Declare war on Japan and will take Kagoshima this turn. Capture kagoshima but fail to kill a wandering archer :(. Lux to 30% to keep Kyoto happy.

Kagoshima falls to that wounded archer.

170 AD (6): Capture Edo. And ReCapture Kagoshima. Stack of 8 WC move into India.

190 AD (7): Capture Karachi losing 2 WC. There are Swords in the area. India will make peace but will only giveup a city in the Islands. continue to shuffle spears to cities defended by WC. Move those WC north. Whipped temples in old england.

210 AD (8): Those temples start on courthouse. Whipped temples in old France. Jungle Clearing at Edo to bring the North a bit closer. Then the Kyoto pass. Clean up a few roaming swords in India.

230 AD (9): More unit moves. whip the temple in madras. Forming up a Stack to move on Calcutta.

250 AD (10): Stack is in position to attack calcutta next turn. New Embassy with Ottomans reveal 4 spears in the Capital 8 WC are outside the city limits but War can now be declared and the final city that dares to be in the inner circle around the pyramid will fall.

Here is the save:

I didn't make peace with anyone - not worth it.

Sorry for the delay getting this back I had played about 5 turns when my daughter woke early from her nap.

There is more to the map than we can see I did trade for Indias TM and gold at some point for our WM. And was surprised to see those 2 citie out in the East. I think there may be even more elsewhere. Conquest it looks like will require boats. But Ghandi is ready to give up Cities , just not very good cities.

Preturn: Hmm conquest will be tricky. The Indians have 2 island colonies which they got to using the Great Lighthouse. So therefore the Pyramid shall dominate the world. Several war chariots defending cities are woken up and moved to the front lines. Bursa’s courthouse veto’d for war chariots. I MM it to get 10 shields at 0 growth. Might be able to get it to 20 shields with a courthouse, but I’d rather build 5 WC’s in the time it would take to build a courthouse. All spearmen cities changed to war chariots. Offense is the best defense in my book. Tokyo, one of our most productive cities is working 3 unimproved tiles.

IT: Japan comes begging for peace. It’s tempting since it would make Kyoto much happier, but I think we’ll be destroying them in less than 20 turns so I decline. Ottomans grovel before the power of the Pyramid as well for renewed peace. I’m forced to declare war on them in between turns or we’d have to wait 20 turns to kill them. Silly Osman moves 2 spears *out* of Izmit, going for the undefended city nearby, as if they’ll get there in time.

Our stack outside Calcutta comes under heavy attack.
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 5/5 sword and loses, our sword is 2/5 and we get a Great Leader Kufu
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 4/4 WC and wins and gets promoted to 4/4
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 4/4 WC and loses, our WC gets promoted to 3/5
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 4/4 WC and wins and gets promoted to 3/4
3/3 English archer attacks our 4/4 WC and loses, our WC is 2/4
3/3 English archer attacks our 4/4 WC and wins with 1/3 left.

260 AD (1): Several cities riot due to declaring war on Osman. Well we only have 4 WC’s left to attack Calcutta with so I don’t. Leader saved to rush Sun Tzu’s once we research Feudalism. I turn research up to get it. Might as well do something with all this cash.
Our 4/4 WC attacks 4/4 Indian sword and wins with 2/4 left.
Our 4/4 WC attacks 3/4 Indian sword and wins with 1/4 left.
Our 4/4 WC attacks 1/3 English archer and wins with 3/4 left.

Pretty much our entire Calcutta stack is gone/wounded now. We should have gone for Delhi first. We could have attacked Delhi right from the relative safety of Karachi and it would have hurt the Indians more.

8 chariots move next to Izmit.

IT: We master the secret of Monarchy. As if there could be any ruler but the Great Pyramid. The Ottoman spears desperately try to get back to Izmit in time but our WC’s are blocking the road now.

270 AD (2): We attack Izmit.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and loses taking 1hp.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and retreats dealing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and wins with 3/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and loses, spear gets promoted to 2/4
4/4 WC attacks 2/4 spear and wins, gets promoted to 3/5
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 archer and wins, gets promoted to 4/5
We capture Izmit! 2 more slaves kneel before the Pyramid. 1/3 resistor.

I have 11 WC’s capable of attacking Delhi. Very tempting. I decide to go for it.
4/4 WC gets bombarded by catapult, knocks spear down to 2/3 and retreats
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and loses doing no damage.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and retreats doing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and wins with 3/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and wins with 2/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and retreats dealing 1 damage.
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and wins with 1/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and wins with 3/4 left
We capture Delhi along with 2 more slaves for the Pyramid! 6/6 resistors

These foreign citizens are killing us. Istanbul has 4 ottoman citizens in it and they’re making a big stink.

IT:
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 3/4 WC across a river, WC retreats and sword has 2/3 left.
3/3 Indian sword attacks our 3/3 spearman and wins getting promoted to 4/4

280 AD (3): We quell 4 resistors in Delhi. Catapult bombards 4/4 Indian sword to 3/4.
5/5 sword attacks 3/4 Indian sword and wins with 2/5 left.
5/5 sword attacks 3/3 Indian spear and wins with 1/5 left.
4/4 WC attacks 2/4 Indian sword and wins with 4/4 left.

Dyes connected, we just need those Indian silks now.

7 WC’s ready to attack Calcutta next turn assuming no strong counter-attack.

290 AD (4): We love the Pyramid day celebrated in several towns. Resistance in Delhi has ended.
We attack Calcutta.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and loses dealing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and retreats dealing 1 damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and wins with 1/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and wins getting promoted to 5/5
We capture Calcutta! 2/4 resistors

4/4 WC attacks 3/3 English warrior and wins with 2/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 English warrior and retreats dealing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 English warrior and wins getting promoted to 4/5
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 Ottoman spearman and loses dealing 1 damage.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 Ottoman spearman and wins with 1/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 Ottoman spearman and loses, spearman promoted to 2/4
4/4 WC attacks 2/4 Ottoman spearman and wins with 3/4 left

IT: We master the secret of Monotheism. Ack! Delhi flips with about 8 WC’s in it including at least one elite. I couldn’t whip it last turn because the resistor quelling caused it to riot. If I had been able to whip it then the chance of flipping would have gone way down.

300 AD (5): The resistance in Calcutta has ended. Temple whipped in Calcutta. I can’t reach Delhi this turn. 20 chariots moved in range of attacking Delhi next turn. Not that I’ll need that many.

IT: Silly English drop a spearman off next to an undefended city. Of course I have a WC in range to guard it.

310 AD (6): We attack Delhi (again) – at least it’s size 6 instead of 7 this time.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and lose dealing 1 damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and retreats dealing 1 damage
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spearman and loses, spearman promoted to 3/4
4/4 WC attacks 3/4 spearman and wins with 3/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spearman and retreats dealing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spearman and wins with 2/4 left
We capture Delhi (again). Bad luck with the RNG there. 5/5 resistors again grr.

Temple whipped in Edo. Temple whipped in Jaipur.

320 AD (7):
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 English spearman and wins with 2/4 left

We attack Bombay (new Indian capital). I open with elites because we already have a leader and I’m not sure I have enough units to take the city.
5/5 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and retreats dealing 1 damage
5/5 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and wins with 2/5 left
Ok that’s messed up, the 2/3 spearman shows on top of the city, but when I attacked a 3/3 sword defended. 4/4 WC retreated dealing no damage and now the 2/3 spear is showing again.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 swordsman and wins with 1/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spearman and wins with 3/4 left
We capture Bombay along with the Great Lighthouse! 3/5 resistors.

Temple whipped in Delhi.

4/4 WC attacks 3/3 Indian warrior and wins with 1/4 left
3/3 WC attacks 3/3 Indian warrior and wins with 3/3 left (I fix the city producing regular WC’s to a barracks.)
5/5 swordsman attacks 3/3 Indian spearman and wins with 2/5 left
5/5 WC attacks 3/3 Indian swordsman and wins with 5/5 left

IT: 3/3 Indian swordsman attacks 4/4 WC and wins, with 1/3 left

330 AD (8):
We attack Bangalore (new Indian capital)
5/5 WC attacks 3/3 spear and wins with 3/5 left
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spear and loses dealing 1 damage.
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and retreats dealing no damage.
4/4 WC attacks 2/3 spear and wins with 4/4 left
We capture Bangalore and 3 more slaves for the Pyramid! 5/5 resistors

We attack Lahore (new Indian capital)
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and wins with 3/4 left
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and wins with 1/4 left
We capture Lahore! 3/4 resistors

4/4 WC attacks 1/3 Indian swordsman and wins with 4/4 left

IT: 3/3 Ottoman archer attacks our 4/4 sword and loses, our sword has 2/4 left

340 AD (9): We learn Feudalism! Set research to Chivalry at 80% (8t). This will let us bypass the jungle to get all the remaining cities, easier than cutting/roading. Sun Tzu’s Art of War rushed in Giza.

4/4 WC attacks 3/3 Ottoman spearman and wins with 3/4 left

Temple whipped in Bombay.

350 AD (10): We complete Sun Tzu’s Art of War in Giza. Lahore dares defy the mighty Pyramid and takes 2 WC’s with it. Temple whipped in Karachi.

We attack Kolhapur.
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 pikeman and wins promoting to 3/5
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and loses dealing 1 damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and loses dealing no damage
4/4 WC attacks 3/3 spearman and loses dealing 1 damage, but it promotes to ¾
4/4 WC attacks 3/4 spearman and wins with 4/4 left
5/5 WC attacks 2/4 spearman and wins with 4/5 left
We capture Kolhapur! 1/3 resistors

5/5 WC attacks 3/3 Ottoman archer on plains and loses dealing 2 damage – gah bad RNG
4/4 WC attacks 2/4 Ottoman archer and wins, promoted to 4/5

Ok I have 6 WC’s ready to attack Lahore again which should be plenty. They shouldn’t have more than 2 spearman in there, possibly only 1. I’m hoping the capital moves to Bengal but I have a feeling it will move to the island city. Either way we should make peace and take both their remaining cities. We can’t be that far from domination now. We have 43 war chariots and we’re still making tons of them. Gotta love how cheap they are. If not for all the jungle that remained I would rather have 20 shield war chariots than 70 shield knights anyday.

Don’t forget to whip the temples in ex-Indian cities as soon as the resistance ends. They don’t even have that much more culture than us but it’s just so far away from our capital. After you take Lahore their capital should move far away though so I doubt any more cities will flip.

Who will slave for the Pyramid next?

Great work Shillen! That Indian counter-attack and the Delhi flip hurt us, but you still managed to have India kneeling before us. We looks like we're getting pretty close to Domination.

I'll take it now!

-Sirp.

(IT) 350AD: I want to make real sure we take Lahore, so I dispatch two more War Chariots to attack the city. I'm just paranoid :)

I see that we have 43 war chariots. In my experience, in any 'high-war' game, anytime you get many over 30 premiere offensive units, you're really on top of the game. Of course, we already knew that :) If we didn't lose those 8 in the flip, we'd have 51!

Rushing Sun Tzu's was the best move, of course, but it would be real cool to have a War Chariot army :)

Eugh all this jungle is going to be annoying to get through.

IBT the English attack Kolapur with warriors and are slaughtered.

(1) 360AD: Lahore did only have one spear. One chariot lost in taking the city.

I whip some temples in former Indian cities. We make peace for India in exchange for a couple of island cities.

Coventry, the English capital, falls to us without loss.

A couple of workers are merged into Tokyo to get it to the 10spt mark.

It is nice that there's a road to the Ottoman capital of Antalya, through the jungle, but there are no roads further south than that. I think we'll have to wait til knights if we can't win before then.

...well ok, no need to wait...

A score of 9235. I don't know much about scores, but that's pretty high right? :)

Our demographics:

Giza is the number one city, of course. Any other city daring to challenge it would be razed to the ground and its people killed.

Naturally, we have a wonderful approval rating, since all love the Pyramid. The Pyramid has over 6 million slaves. The only disturbing figure is the Pyramid's military service. *Only* 4 years? The Pyramid wants to demand 10 years of service for all!

One last look at our great city with the awesome Pyramid standing beside it:

SP8-giza.jpg

It's been a fun game guys. Thanks everyone for playing. It was tougher than the Pointy Stick Aztecs, and we still dominated in style. I look forward to playing with everyone who played this in future Succession Games.

-Sirp.

Oh and....we won a full 20 turns earlier than the Jags won the day in SP7! That was probably largely due to 80% water in this compared to 70% water in that game, but still impressive considering we couldn't build settlers, and that we had the huge starting delay at the start with the Pyramids.

I'm thinking that the 'best' strategy (as in, *shudder* if we weren't slaves of the Pyramid), would be to build a granary in Giza, build a heap of workers to improve the land around it, then merge a heap of them back into Giza to shoot it to size 12, start churning out a WC a turn, and go nuts.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it'd be possible to win an OCC by conquest like this :)

-Sirp.

I'm starting to think that if one's

Behold the glory of the Pyramid ! Congratulations, guys :goodjob:
I can't wait to see what you come up with next, and I hope circumstances will allow me to take a few turns then !

Truly no-one should dispute the value of War chariots ever again -to dominate the world from such a late start shows what they can do.

Score of 9235. Wow!! Great job everyone!! :goodjob:
This was a lot of fun Sirp. I look forward to the next one.
Hmmmm, that idea you had there in your last post sounds really fun.
Anytime someone maligns the War Chariot in the other forums I will have to point them to this thread.

:worshp: :worshp: Hail to the Pyramid :worshp: :worshp:

The shear shock and awe that the Pyramid possessed was indeed too great a force for the many lesser people that roamed our lands. What a site that Pyramid is!!

Everyone great job in showing the true power of the Pyramid and not for one second easing up on the worthless nations that dared defy us!

Sirp, you are correct that the trades weren't the best or even most lucrative deals that could have been made and they did delay or forward progress into heathen Indian territory. Luckily, they were not able to capitalize on it and all of you stuck it to them before they could.

Great work everyone!! :goodjob:

It would be an honor to play in another SG with all of you. This one was definitely a lot of fun.

@sirp -
Any more of these quickie open SG coming up?

Now that I am finished my current LK39 marathon, I will actually have time to play the next one.

Hmm....I was actually planning not to have any other open SGs for a while....but, considering there seems to be high demand for another, I might consider it :) I do have an idea in mind...

Thanks everyone for playing. Don't worry about the trades Despot, they were no big deal really, and your great warmongering more than made up for them.

-Sirp.

Well let me know.

I also have a odd-ball one, but we don't need 2 open sg at the same time.

I don't see what's wrong with having 2 open SGs at the same time LK. I think there's a lack of open SGs generally: they're plenty of fun, and go nice and quick.

Anyhow, I may not be able to start my next one for a while, so start your own one. "odd ball" has made me curious :p

-Sirp.

One thing I forgot to mention last night:

After I took Edo: Japan had a worker in the jungle. He killed it rather than allow me to take him. Has anyone seen that happen before?

*delurk*

Yes, the AI will often disband workers if it thinks it can't keep them. If they are foreign to the AI, there's an attitude hit from the other AI whose worker that was, but if the AI really dislikes you, they'll do this a lot.

Indeed they will....it often wasn't noticeable before PTW though, because units just 'disappeared' when they got disbanded. I think that this led some players to think that the AI was cheating by somehow spiriting away captured units, when in fact it was just disbanding them.

Now the death animation gets played when a unit is disbanded so you can see it more clearly.

Sirp

Sheesh guys ! That was quick again !
I missed on the Green Mean machine because of patch BS but now that I'm ready I 'm too slow...wow !
