Spl02: Noob-Party

No problem Morred. I'll take it and try to play tonight.

Gameplan: rebuild economy and spread some missionaries. What tech path should we pursue?

Well, the economy growth didn't go as I had hoped. Lots of infrastructure builds completed though.

IHT #330 1550AD
Guangzhou: we're losing the culture battle here. Have to see what can be done.
Najing - insert a Pavillion
Beijing - set Heroic Epic in the queue

#331 1555AD
Caught a spy in Shanghai.
Move the GS to Shanghai for Scotland Yard
Found some workers [party] in Debre. Hustle them on up north to begin working some ex-Bull territory.

#332 1560AD
Check Civics and find that we're Pagan?? Go ahead and take the hit to switch to OR and Bur.

#333 1565AD
Armies are relocated in Guangzhou and Shanghai. Guess they were on auto-move.

#334 1570AD
GS builds Scotland Yard in Shanghai.

#335 1575AD
Meet Mr Pacal. He always looks pissed.
AP vote comes up and I vote for us, of course. :mischief:

#336 1580AD
We win the AP vote.
Heroic Epic started in Beijing
Confussion missionary push started in Debre. Need to spread these guys like wildfire since we have the Kong Mao for income.

#337 1585AD
Pacal comes asking that we cancel our deals with Jao. Checking the Diplo screen it seems that Charley and Jao both dislike him so I decide to keep our current friends. Now Pacal really looks pissed.

#338 1590AD
Pacal comes back again. This time wanting Paper and 80g for Optics. I can't get him to make it sweeter so I send him away. Diplomacy is not my thing.

#339 1575AD
Gunpower is in. Select Music next for the culture slider.
Ex-Bull land cities begin border popping.

#340 1600AD
Gaungzhou: Christian missionary settled and whip the temple. Also set an Artist, but the city is stagnant at the moment. We've slowed the culture bleeding. Need a Conf missionary over here with that temple.

#341 1605AD
Worker tasks.

#342 1610AD
More worker tasks. We have a lot of 'em. :D

#343 1615AD
Music -> Banking
More border pops
Mansa finishes Taj Mahl.

#344 1620AD
Worker tasks

#345 1625AD
Nothing much.

Shanghai is pumping out musketmen. Beijing should take over in 2 turns when Heroic Epic finishes.
Debre is putting out Conf missionaries.
Need to get a Conf missionary to Guangzhou before we lose that city to culture.
Lots of whips last turnset, but lots of population regrowth too.
We're up to 2nd in the points and lead Charley in land.
We're 4th in soldiers, but should be able to turn that around pretty quick once the courthouses and other infra builds finish.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but there wasn't anything really "picture worthy" this turnset.

Morred: Oh yeah, I saw that post, but forgot about it after the first skip...

dawn: I'll read the rest of report later, but it's good to finally have control of the AP.

So, Morred is now up (I can only go this weekend).

to settle your curiosity dawn, when i made peace with bull that sits, i sent most of the units in ex-bull land to our border cities with portugal as that is our only land border and we're planning on dominition starting with the attack on Portugal when we get rifles :)

No problem TLO36. Just caught me off guard when they showed up in those cities.

Move the GS to Shanghai for Scotland Yard
Why?

Settling the GS gets us +12 EPs now. Building Scotland Yard gets us 100% of X EPs in the future?

I forget if we've had a golden age, but if not we coulda started one. Splime didn't call no spybombs so we coulda done that too.

I reread the above and it sounds harsh; it is not meant to be so. It just lookes like something I would have done ;) see title. :crazyeye:

No offense taken. This is all about learning.

I debated sending the GS to Jao and bomb him, but figured (probably incorrectly) to go for the long term effect of Scotland Yard.

glad you took it as intended, I tip toe thru the you know what cause of past indiscretions...

I haven't actually launched all that many spy bombs. there's that influence culture thingie that nobody has figured out to date. I think I'm going to play a shadow of your opening save, spybomb joao and see what I can do.

In my anectdotal experience, seems like settling the first GS is usually better.

@ Dawn - So what was dinner tonight or were you on the road? I just do this to add confusion :crazyeye:

...Bah. I can go after the next person, this is what happens when you do all your holiday homework two days before school starts again. The two days starting today, hehe.

I'll try and play a bit later today.

Actually, it seems I don't have the time... Quotey, you're up.

Sorry, I was playing and I'm questioning the placement of the HE. Beijing has 8 production, can be configured for 9 without farms. I could get about 12 production at 9 pop if we farmed 6 grasslands, which would also hurt the commerce. Shangai however has 17 production without any farmed plains or grasslands. It has 16 food at pop 4 with farms ongrassland tiles, so at size 8 we can squeeze I THINK 20 prod out of it, which is 40 with the HE. And 45 with a forge.

That's enough for a Rifleman every 4 turns.

I'll play the rest once I gte an answer. Also: Tech Path is Banking -> Edu -> Printing Press -> Replaceable Parts -> Rifling?

This is the newbie thread, so tell me how to work out prod at sizes if mine are wrong. I know Shangai can get a lot more if we irrigate the plains.

Nice analysis Quotey. I didn't dig that deeply when I picked Beijing as the location. I compared the current hammer output.
In order to provide more farmland to Shanghai, the cottages or watermill north of Beijing could be removed.

It's been left too long with not fox or splime input, I'll switch the HE to Shangai and play tonight.

Sorry, you were waiting for my input? Didn't realize that. :hammer2:

Personally, I don't really mind which is HE ... we could do it either way. Actually the most crucial thing is not to choose the best site for HE (in fact, if I were to choose, neither Beijing nor Shanghai would get it. I would choose Spiro), but to maintain the momentum. Given HE is already 2 turns away, is it really wise to switch to Shanghai?

Turn 0 (346)

First off, I honestly consider the HE to be a very important building. If we were at Rifling, I would probably not switch it, but we're sitll a wee bit away.

Now Shangai or Sp... Spiro?

Spiro? Great idea- I never even looked at the city! It knicks some rice from that dumb city Gondar.

Turn 1 (346)

Haha, we have -4 diplo with Charlie for declaring war on his friend. Yuck. Bloody AP.

Anyway, he offers us Fur for Rice. We have 5 rice. Cereal Mills?

Shangai completes a Musketman, and NO you may not build another Musketman. Stop it. Musketmen are rubbish.

I look at the siplo screens and we have nothing over Charlie and Pacal and Jaoao. They have PP, Chem, Almost Corporation.

And Pacal has three cities. I dread to see Mansa.

SB didn't have a good capital, eh? I mean, come on!

There's an unirrigated farm, it must have been cottaged over or something. People with workers, watch your trigger fingers.

Turn 3 (348)

Banking -> Printing Press

Turn 4 (349)

Charlemagne starts researching Scientific Method.

Turn 6 (351)

Guangzhou has a grassland, a hill and a desert incense left for workable tiles. Don't worry son. One day you'll be back...

Turn 8 (353)

Charlemagne is researching Physics.

Turn 10 ()

Sorry for handing off so early, but I don't have much time and I'd rather play today than tommorow.

Suggestions for next set:

-Spread Confucionism and get the wealth buildings up in the holy city.
-Train more Trebs
-Tech to rifling
-GET MANSA TO MEET US.
-Get the HE completed in Spiro.

SAVE! I WANNA SOMETHING FOREVER, DA DA DA REMEMBER THE SAVE!
