In my India game I just coverted to Islam while everyone else is Hindu, Buddhist, or Confuciost and they all hate me now, and I'm trying to get China to convert but they keep refusing saying they don't like me enough. How do I make other people convert?

Spread your religion to all/most of their cities.

Try to increase diplomatic bonuses with China until you reach "Pleased". Ideas for this include:

* adopting China's favorite civic (look it up in the Civopedia in-game under leaders)

* going to war allied with China when they declare or bribing them to declare war if they are so inclined then declaring war yourself

* trade away old techs that you don't need on favorable terms to China

* supplying China with resources in exchange for another resource or for gold per turn

All of these strategies should increase your diplomatic standing.

Final thought. Once you get to "Pleased" you should be able to bribe China to convert provided there are enough Chinese cities with Islam to avoid the "Not enough of our people follow that faith" refusal prompt.

Umm.. why would you do such a thing?

Meh I decided to reconvert back to Hinduisim and invade China instead. Now the question is, how to invade a nation that size with that many troops....

Umm.. why would you do such a thing?

Because I invented it.

Don't switch to a religion just because you founded it. The AI does that, and it's usually a bad move. If you're switching to a religion, you should either (a) need the happiness/culture bonuses for your cities or a diplomatic boost, (b) be doing it to take advantage of religious civics, or (c) already have a shrine built and the religion spread to other civs.

What you should do when you found a religion is this:

If it is a late game religion and most of the world has a religion already, you should also be one of those religions. That way they will be favorable with you and you can get open borders with them. That way you can spread your religion to all their cities. Then when all their cities have it you convert to your religion, then ask them to convert. Sometime they will do it themselves anyway.

I was hoping he would say it was all part of a diabolical scheme to screw up China's diplomacy with his neighbors. Get him to convert, then convert back to Hinduism and watch the whole world turn against him. :goodjob:

Founding a religion doesn't give you too many advantages. The biggest one is being able to spend a prophet to get +1 gpt for each city with it, which you get regardless of it being your state religion.

so in other words, keep your state relgion to something popular with your neighbors for diplomacy. spread your state religion to get prod. bonuses from civics and wonders. spread relgions your found to boost commerce.

this is also a fun side effect of spirital leaders - switch your state religion often for timely diplomatic bonuses.
