SSNES: Fall of Wu'di

I am skeptic. Anyway, Reno, why are you doing this?

Why is he doing what? And did tossi send his orders to Cleric? I got them, but was that before? I'm the MOD! I'm supposed to know what's happening!!!

For the record: ALL continuous magic effects must be MAINTAINED by Adepts, or they will end when the Adepts move away. The only other way to make them stay in effect is to make a project for it. So when you say: "make a huge wall of magic force blah blah..." I assume that your Adepts are grounded there to keep the desired effect in place for the entire turn/year. If this somehow contradicts with your other orders, I will cancel the spell effect when appropriate unless specified otherwise.

If we do manage to bring down the Triad I propose we share between us and Cairo the splendors of the city of Jaid and the knowledge of the Academy of Illusion. How do you respond dear allies?

It wasn't targeted at anyone specifically, Cleric. It was more of a general reminder. ;)

Commencing Update! Prepare to fight!

Battles now. Entering middle phase.

EDIT: Wow. I'm effective today!

Let's just say that with most of the human lands lost to the freezing weather, i might aswell do something and grab more land for my people to survive. I really don't have time to sympathize with your dragon huggers here. Also, i want your academy before you use it against me.

Oh, and do note that you aren't supposed to know this info in IC: So if you moved your troops to face mine now (Changed orders), you would have cheated. Since you In Charecter leaders would not have known of the attack.

Yeah, that's good... as long as we avoid what happened with us and Ramon...

He did send new orders, but it doesn't really matter since I was aware of it. Besides, he is entitled to defend himself anyway (unless he sent his entire army away to some other front ) Let's just say the update (which will hopefully be here in a couple hours) will reveal what came of it. Guys, I love you. This is so EXCITING!

Aha but who do you love the most?

Anyway Reno,no plans of evil eh?Never trust nature loving people.

Oh you can trust him. Reno, you can trust Cleric as well. You might as well sign a peace treaty and trade and live happily ever after. :)

Let's just say that I'm (attempting to) confiscating Shaemar's fire magic, for their own good. :mischief:

He does. You will see. The update will be served in mere moments.

Update 9 - 2009 FF The Year of Anvils

SPOTLIGHT: The Soltyrian War (The Dragon's Plains), Spring 2009

General Jabbak was unsure why it had come to this. Sure, the new and large army of glorious Soltyria was a pride to have under command. They were easily the largest and most successful of the rebel nations that sprouted almost ten years ago. Still, Shaemar was an ally, and the neighbor had aided former Bellfern when it was pressed by the hulking Empire. Now they were suddenly enemies, and his orders were to crush through to their capital and seize it. He had heard talk of the incinerations of Shiremen, and the rebels, but he could not understand why a war was necessary. Still, he had his duties, and one of them was following orders. It only nagged him that he had not questioned them more when he set off. There was nothing to be done about that now.

A mounted scout, one of the many Shire Horsemen, came charging into his field HQ, obviously carrying the patrol report. Jabbak sighed and rose to meet the soldier, who did not waste time stopping the horse before dismounting. With a graceful swing he was off the horseback and dashing towards him, clutching a rolled parchment in his left hand. Jabbak raised his hands, and the soldier tossed the parchment to him, screeching to a halt and regaining his breath for a second. Then he spoke.

"Sir, you will not believe what the Shaemarans have... I don't know how to explain it. But it sure is a monster."

Jabbak raised his eyebrow as his gaze went up from the parchment. It was a hasty drawing of a dragon, although it had many more horns and smoother scales than those he had seen. "What do you mean. III know the Shaemarans command dragons. Nasty creatures, but still killable." He said it matter-of-factly, feigning disinterest and calm.

"Sir, I'm not sure if this one is."

Screw the cool attitude! "What do you mean?"

"Sir, it's taller than the city gates of Cha'dra."

"What nonsense! There are no dragons that large!"

"I said I could not explain it, Sir. But it's right there, beyond two ridges to the northeast."

Jabbak stood still for a moment, then put on his gauntlets and helm. He quickly gave a sign to the scout to follow him, and together they mounted. Then they rode to the top of the hill that the army camped on, Jabbak in complete silence, the scout wanting to speak more but wisely refraining. They came to the crown of the hill, and gazed eastward.

"Over there, Sir," said the scout and pointed a bit more north to a pair of steep hills that jutted up from the plains around it.

"Where is it?" Jabbak was struggling to follow the scout's pointing. His sight was not very good over long distances, and he dispised spectacles since they were unwieldy while campaigning.

"There it is, Sir!"

"Where?" Jabbak could still not see it.

"There! It's coming straight towards us!"

The general's eyes popped as the towering beast came into focus with leathery wings flapping. It was half a mile away, but still clearly visible. It was a terrible fiend, and quite intimidating, he noted, when it came flying straight at you. that was the miggest understatement he had ever thought in his life.

"There is the Shaemaran army, Sir. I count at least five thousand." informed the scout, but general Jabbak was not looking at him. Wheeling his steed, he roared "Rally the army! The enemy is upon us!"

Behind him, the colossal dragon was closing in with demonic speed, flames writhing from its nostrils and jagged maw. Then it breathed, setting the entire hillside aflame. The battle had begun.

Global News: The cold climate has stagnated, and does no longer creep northwards. The lands south are still frigid, and a giant ice cap is spreading across the Spine of the World. The plague has spread further east and inland to the Eastern Empire, and from there to the rebel lands south of it (read below). Still, the plague has declined in Soltyria and Shaemar, as well as Rollux. Kulta is now free of the plague after the cleansing when they landed the Nether islands and the recent loss of contact with the remnants of Kulta on Bralan (read below). There is, however, one more unsettling news on top of the plague and the cold. Those who died of the plague are now beginning to rise as zombies/skeletons across the Southern Continent. They have not attacked the living, but gather in large groups, moving from one place to the other. Local citizen are frequently scared away from their homes (but many are refugees or otherwise homeless anyway). The practice of cremating the dead is now being adopted by many of the affected countries. Why the dead are rising, and what is going to happen with them remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the citizen are calling for the authorities to dead with the problem somehow.

Spine of the World: The barbarians in the Spine is continuing their peaceful and happy livestyles. The regional chiefs have come together in a form of council, primarily to discuss the cold and the strange cloud cover. Konahn has not yet attended these meetings, which might be the first steps towards a more stronger country, rather than the loose and tribal society until now.

Heartlands: Horus has expanded to meet the Shaemar to the west, and south to meet Ramon again on the southern tip of the dividing mountain range. But more pressing matters preside these expansions: Barragh has finally invaded Horus. After agents from Horus incited a revolt in the Empire and armed them with frost armor, Barragh had had enough. The rebels struggled southwards to meet their Horus allies, and the army from Rashal came at their heels. The Riders of the Sea were prepared, however, and caused whirlpools to emerge in the canal so that many Empire troops drowned. Still, Barragh harried on his army with tremendous force, and they eventually clashed with the rebels and the Horus defence. The battle was intense, but the host of rashal was far too great to stem for Horus. They have ceded the banks and dug themselves in around the capital city Drach'nyen. Meanwhile, the plague is ravaging the countryside. Unlike many other countries, Horus was successive in limiting the spread of the plague - by melting the afflicted in large pools of acid. This has caused the people to mutter and show their malcontent with the magocracy. Things are looking even more grim north of them, though, and as long as Barragh threatens Horus, an uprising is unlikely. But there might be a reckoning when the war is over - if it ever ends.

Ramon has had a "peaceful" year. None of it's forces were campaigning, and helped the locals deal with the cold and the plague. Many of the Adepts are stationed in the south to heat the cold winds that blow from the Spine. A crop resistant to cold has been developed, as well as one resistant to fire. Although the famine is avoided, the plague is wrecking the nation. Part of the reason is the heavily used river systems that is both the knitting and lifeblood of Ramon, spreading the plague efficiently both through the water and those who travel on it. Still, does not bear this burden along with a war, and is by that better off than most of the rebel nations.

This was true, at least until the Adepts from Delenlor arrived. Enjoying protection and help from Delenlor refugees in Ramon, they easily made their way across the country and into ramonia itself. There they summoned a huge hurricane that ripped off the roof of the Academy and ripped, drenched and spread the contents with the seven winds. Needless to say, the Academy was destroyed, and the Adepts were caught and executed in most grusome ways. Although they posed as Horus Adepts, none of the Ramonians were willing to believe the story, and the agents were correctly branded Delenlorian and "dealt with" accordingly. Resentment towards the refugees has yet again flared, and many mobs have taken it on themselves to enact just revenge upon the "traitorous outlanders". Fact remains: Ramon has experienced the second loss of an Academy, and will most likely resume the fighting-spree in the coming years.

Western Shelf: War has been declared between the Kingdom of Soltyria and Shaemar. The former, fearing Shaemar for their merciless incineration of Shiremen (plus the vendetta sworn by Shiremen seeking revenge for their slaughtered kin) saw it fit to mobilize their huge army to crush the former ally. The matter was keenly aware of the situaltion, and had taken precautions through planting pro-Shaemar cells within ex-Bellfern. When the Soltyrian army marched eastwards, these pockets of rebels rose up and marched into Shaemar, boosting the defence. Most of these them regroued with the army that came from the capital - which brought a very nasty surprise. When the two armies met in the plains of western Shaemar, the newest terror of dragon forces was unleashed: Mephistopheles, Lord of Dragons, reputedly a demi-god and immortal. The behemoth was summoned with the help of venerable dragons and Red Dragon Adepts, and an army in himself. The huge army of Soltyria seemed to have met their match, but the very size of it proved critical. While Mephistopheles circled over them raining liquid fire and slashing away with his terrible claws, archers and Adepts hurled all their shots at him, severely wounding the seemingly invincible beast. Then, finally, the ground troops of Shaemar - much smaller than the Soltyiran forces - had to retreat. Mephistopheles kept the Soltyrians occupied while the remains of the army retreated along with the Red Dragon Adepts. After they had come into safety, the Dragon departed and flew up into the clouds. Shiremen Air Adepts tried to follow him, but decided not to when several of them were grilled or eaten by the ambushes of Mephistopheles. The Dragon Lord still terrorizes the frontline, preventing the Soltyrian army from advancing to Shaemar proper. The soltyrian War has entered an odd standstill.

Islands: Kulta, meaning the Nether Islands, have vanished from the world. The entire archipelage is enshrouded in magical illusions and fogs, rendering all navigation useless and voyages outright perilious. The Empire, which had planned another liberation attempt quickly found themselves thwarted for the time being, but did not wait to mobilize more forces. Instead, they sailed to Felaskhar, their other nemesis. The Sealords were aware of the incoming danger, and also provided felaskhar with the upper hand in the naval battle. Moving the waters so that Empire ships collided and sank, as well as summoning fearsome water elementals, they wreaked heavy damage on the Empire fleet. Still, the latter was far larger, and thus the outcome was a marginal victory. The Empire was thwarted yet again, but at a price. Worse still, the Empire fleet sent a few of their plague victims to the Felaskhar islands, and now the plague has spread there as well.

Empire: The Empire is being ravaged by the plague. A full third of their population has already fallen victim, and the citizen are calling out for help from the First Prince and the mercy of the gods. With the repeating military defeats, as well as the famine/plague crisis, the people is getting less and less content with the indifferent rule of the Empire.

Lirkland: Pashawan and Rollux are locked in an uneasy truce. With the plague and the the Lirkland War, the lands of former Galadinia are largely deserted and devoid of population. This has created a sort of buffer between the two, and they are content that way. Still, Rollux has a conflict on the west front as well, and with the allied Eastern Empire on its knees, they must feel quite pressed at the moment. Pashawan is experiencing good harvest despite the conditions, but the plague is ever persistant here as well. Quarantines have led to little or no result, and many are fearing a total decimation of the population.

Steppes: The Eastern Empire is crumbling. Under the pressure of Cairo, Shaba and Delenlor, the Triad has retreated to the relatively secure river valley of Jaid. Or should it be called the Duo? Trisan, who was captured by Delenlor, is deserted by his brothers. They refused to pay ransome to Delenlor, and has lost completely what influence he had after the collapse of Divination. Still, that matters little when all three are about to fall. The three rebel nations have split the Eastern Empire among themselves, and intend to share the Academy of Illusion as well. Shaba has postponed the migration until Jaid has fallen, but Cairo has begun packing the Academy for moving. What will become of Delenlor is still uncertain. Will they pursue or be pursued by Ramon in the west, or will they settle and make peace with their neighbors?

Did I forget something? Not sure. You guys can do the work.
