Star Trek unit preview thread

Those are great models Matress, especially the Vulcans.... Do you think you can convince him to pass them to me? (beg, beg, beg... :D)

The UESN Conqueror...

Are you making these ships to any sort of scale to each other or what?

Thor found the old ones too small... :) But maybe you're right. The Amarillo and Krechet should be 30-40% smaller, the Conqueror 25%. I'll resize them...

I've written a post to ZDarby, and i've posted a link to this thread, so he'll probably be having a look here in the near future. ;)

He's a reasonable guy, so he'll probably say yes, although he likes to make his own models.

If any of you guys like to discuss Warp Physics and the like, then he's your kind of guy. He understand a lot about it, and even has his own theories on the matter - which is why his models are so good. :)

That's great news... :) Thank Matress...

Edit: UESN Farragut, in a smaller scale. The other three will probable be resized over the weekend.

1) Matress of Evil sent me here saying y'all would like to use my vulcan models for your mod. I see no reason why not. With whom should I speak? To whom should I send them?

2) I dig y'alls work, though I admit I don't play Civ. However, with due respect to the model maker in question: the DY-100 from Trek cannon looks nothing like the model I saw at the beginning of this thread -- the model I assume you're using for your mod. A far better model can be found as a Klingon Academy mod... Let's see if I can find it... Ah... Here's a copy:
http://www.angelfire.com/trek/phoenixx/dy100.htm
It's gonna be an .lwo object and you're gonna have to clean it up a bit, as it's meant to come apart in battle, so there are lots and lots of little bits within the model (yuck!). But it's a really good model. I don't know what the creator will think of you using it... All you have to do is ask.

I've actually already cleaned it up, if you want my copy. I've removed the internal stuff and made it a single piece. You can see the model on the first image at top right here:
http://www.bananabelt.org/pages/mintaka/trekmodels.html

I actually recomend models made for KA, as the moders are rather particular about the shape, texture and feel of their models: they'll be flying up close and personal, after all. The same goes for Bridge Commander models... Always ask permission... I assume I didn't have to say that.

3) The 3d model files of BotF are the HOB files. The textures are GIFs and there are three per model. The difference between them is only their Res: 128x128, 256x256, 512x512 -- 8bit color. There is a HOB importer for Ultimate Unwrap3D. Unfortunately, because of computer limitations of the time, the models are all sectioned off horribly, making terrible geometry. They need to be cleaned and their texture re-applied before use. I've already gone through this process, as have others. It is a real pain to clean up the models and get them to some resemblance of ok-ness. If You want my work -- to some extent, incomplete -- you may have it. Most of these models, and all of the Ferengi models, will be fine for what you're doing: low-res 2d renders... Actually, I should be able to supply all the original BotF models in a form good enough for this task.

4) The Valient. I have a Valient model of my own, again, seen on the same site as my clean-up of the DY-100. If you want it, it's yours; as are the Neptune, Intrepid, and Daedalus -- as these are all my models... Oh, and all the models I have, both those I've converted and those I've made, are in scale with eachother: 1 internal unit = 1 meter.

However: all the models I made myself are low-poly is it has been my intent to use them in 3D mods, such as BotF1 or 2. In all the images on that page, the model with the largest number of polys is the Valient at 959 -- mostly quads... 1932 if turned to triangles.

5) To conclude: I have these things and you may use them if you please. To whom shall I send them; I would like to talk to this person first.

Edit: I like the STMuseum ships. Would it be possible to get models of them?

Hi ZDarby, welcome to Civfanatics! I am the maker of all units in this thread and there will be about 200 more when this thing is finally ready...
About the DY-100, I downloaded it from www.trekmeshes.ch, who in turn took it from www.startrekaustralia.com. However that last site changed its model back to the one you posted. It seems that there are three versions, one with the open cylinder, one with the closed cylinder and a complete refit. Not sure why I choose the closed model, probably though it looked nicer that way... :)
Also it is one of my first civ units, so if it doesn't look that great, now you know why...
Any ships you can give us are welcome, but I think Thorgrimm already has all Federation units covered. Not sure though, I should ask him. Only the Vulcans, Andorians, Tellarites and some other minor races were missing lots of nice ships...

Of course I'm willing to share any of the models I have in return for yours, just name it. The Starfleet Museum models are in LWO, but I also have them in 3ds and Max.

Next victim: UESN Olympus Mons

@Flamand -- What file format do you want them in? Do you want them emailed to you? I know you want the Vulcans. Please understand that they have not been textured, only colored. Besides the Vulcans, what else would you like? The BotF models?

Quinzy said:
wow. nice unit. fits well as a "Corronchee VI" in my mod. i await patiently.
I can email it to you if you want.

@ZDarby: I PM'd you my address.

I'm an idiot!

I just found all the Cardassian models on a highly-visible stickied thread on the BOTF2 site.

The Cardassian models

There are further renders of the models throughout that thread, so check the first six pages. There aren't any models on page seven, just a couple of replies.

His Cardassian Galor Class Battleship is probably one of the most complex Star Trek models you wil ever see - his last post estimated that the final version will be at the 20-30 THOUSAND poly mark!

Jigalypuff will probably still send you the models - if he still has them, so send him a PM or email. Just because he isn't working on the team, he still frequents the website, and is still making mods for BOTF1.

His current project is a Stargate mod. ;)

I'm not sure if i've posted a link for the Romulan ships before either, so here's the thread with those on. Remember to check the rest of the pages in the thread. ;)

The Romulan models

e-mail if you want, but my mod will take a while. my email is in my public profile.

@Quinzy: sent the unit to you by email...

Had quite a productive day today. Introducing the Powhatan, Yorktown, Minotaur and a resized Amarillo...

BTW: I have the Vulcan models now, expect previews soon...

hehehehehe  . look at the little one try to fit in!

and thank you flamand, i got the unit. its great. they're all great! thank you!

Wow! Look at the laser show! The thread's become a Disco!

Na, i'm joking. The ships are really cool!

I like the fact that so much time is being taken over an era that even Trek itself hasn't really *yet* focussed on.

This mod will be extremely popular with Trek fans because of such attention to detail, especially since most Trek mods would normally go for the TOS or even TNG-onwards eras.

Could I ask what the designations of the ships will be though? (If they have been decided)

For instance, is the Yorktown the equivalent of an early Battleship, since it is the largest of those four ships, whilst the Minotaur is the equivalent of a Scout?

All the ships will need to have specialised designations, since it is a mod for Civ 3 afterall...

Thanks for the compliments! You can find all the descriptions here or here.

Matress, The Powhatan is going to be used as an Escort Cruiser for the Yorktown Class Carrier.

The Minotaur is the fighter/PT ship the Yorktown's carry.

The Amarillo is going to be used as a frigate because I don't want Flamand to pass out from the knowledge of all the ships I would like to use. ;) :D

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

I knew that, but I was too lazy to type... :D
