Star Trek unit preview thread

Wow Sword, those look cool! Care to send them to me in 3ds or max format?

You`ve just prolonged Flamand`s transformation into a fantasy unit creator by 12 days, Sword!
Transformation, sounds Borgish... I will resist for now... :p

@Mattress: so far the Ferengi ships haven't been assigned any functions yet. But I'm open to suggestions...

I think you have to pay for the pack unfortunately. I think the fighter(top-middle) is from Starfleet Command Volume Two: Empires at War. One of the three types of Fighters starfleet builds in order to battle the Innerstellar Concordium and other nearby galactic powers. I had no idea that Starfleet had fighter-craft....

Too bad... :( Well, I guess I already have enough models to play with for now... :D

I think I can convert those...

Edit: the Greed shuttle (very appropriate name... :D)

I have that game, but I don't recognise the fighter. The fighters are very small though, and I haven't played the game in a while, so that might be the reason why.

I had no idea that Starfleet had fighter-craft....

As far as I know, they don't. Games similar to SFC give the Federation fighter-craft because it makes the game more fun, or adds strategy.

The closest thing to a Federation fighter that I know of would be the shuttle that Data flew in Insurrection. You could even say that the ship that housed the Argo dune-buggy thing was a fighter, but we never saw it in action.

There was also the Romulan Scorpion in Nemesis, so you have to assume that the Federation would have some sort of fighter craft. The Federation would never knowingly leave such a gaping hole in their fleets and tactics...

the Greed shuttle (very appropriate name... :D)

Yeah, it is! ;)

...

Right then,if you want ideas for the designations of the ships, I can help there.

The D'kora was a Marauder in BOTF. It had relatively powerful Torpedoes but relatively weak beam weapons - but enough of them to make up for that weakness. It would really make more sense to make it a truly uber Privateer for you mod, and this would fit in well to their money-grabbing philosophy. It was their BOTF equivalent of a Battleship though and their largest class of ship, so you could also make it a Battleship. ;)

The Glantor was a Troop Transport in BOTF. It was completely unarmed, and they always left battle by the quickest escape route in BOTF. It would make sense for it to be the equivalent of a seige unit in your mod. You could then use it to capture enemy systems/cities or to make it easier for other units to capture the systems/cities.

The Goront was a War Cruiser in BOTF, which was the equivalent of a Command Cruiser. They had powerful weapons, and were relatively fast ships, but they were weak on defense. It could be a very powerful Destroyer or even an AEGIS Cruiser in the mod.

The Ngort was a Light Raider in BOTF. They had weak weaponry but they made up for it with sheer speed and relatively good defense. It could take the place of a Privateer or a Frigate in your mod.

The Greed shuttle could be a small Transport or a trade unit.

Matress, I remember a Starfleet Carrier design in SFC too. Do you think that fighters and such should have a place in this mod?

Alright Flamand..I have the files myself, but I also have the link to the site... http://www.lwg3d.com/v3/meshes.php?cat=11...I hope this helps.

If you look around on the sight they also have Startrek stuff :)

You mean like I did for my Battlestar Galactica? I'll keep that in mind.
BTW: thanks for that site. Found a couple of interesting models there... :)

Ferengi Ooron class:

Euh...how about all of them? :p The Ferengi will be playable by popular request...

Oh... :D The ST ones I already had, but there are many others that would make great units... But I'll keep those a secret for now... :)

The Ferengi will be playable by popular request...

By popular request, the Ferengi WON'T be in BOTF2 as a major race - they will simply be a minor race with the ability to expand...

In Starfleet Command, most of the smaller Carrier vessels were simply refits of other classes - usually Miranda's - they had systems taken out to accomodate the flight decks for the fighters, and relied on Phasers or Missiles as their main weapons, rather than Photons.

However in the game, the Federation also had the best Carriers, and these ships were the larger, fighter-dedicated vessels, the BCX's.

...

I'm in uni at the moment, so i'll have to do the Ooron from memory.

It was officially designated as a Strike Cruiser in BOTF. It was designed specifically for Planetary assault, and has many, many, massively powerful long-range torpedoes. It's beam weapons, sensors, engines, shields, and hull are totally lacking though, so it's defense reatings were very low fr it's tech level, even by Ferengi standards.

Strike Cruisers in general were the most terrible ships in BOTF, and they weren't any much better at Planetary assault than dedicated Warships anyway.

In your mod, the Ooron would be the equivalent of an artillery unit, most probably a canon or artillery unit. It wouldn't be 'as good' as a Radar artillery unit though, and would definitely need to be escorted by other units.

*Edit - if you read what it says in your link, Flamand, it says that the Peregrins were officially deisgnated as Shuttlecraft - it was the Marquis who used them as fighters, and they had to modify them to do so. ;)

LOL Guess you guys are not big Ferengi fans... :D

D'oh... We'll be using them for reconnaisance and perhaps light bombing. The Maquis will have one or two unit types based on the Peregrin.

This concludes the Ferengi collection... :)

Actually, I *am* a big Ferengi fan. I was out-yelled, though. They'll be there as a expanding minor, as Matress said. Someone -- perhaps me -- will make a mod that allows them to be a playable race.

I am gratified to see you like the models. Thank you for the credit.

@ZDarby: credit where credit is due... Thanks for the models... :)

@Sword: the TOS Feds are next, then the Cardies...
