Easy, yes. But it also completely negates any use for Interdictor units. If a unit could travel anywhere, than it would never be affected by an Interdicter's ZOC between the said unit and its destination.

I propose that hyperspace-capable units be able to move to one-half or one-third of the map in a turn. Even hyperspace isn't instant. There are several instances of week-long hyperspace jumps throughout the Expanded Universe. The Inderdictor units could have a ZOC of their surrounding squares. Since these units won't always be seen when a player "jumps," the Interdictor pulling them to realspace well short of their destination or next jump point (especially with an accompanying task force) a very rude surprise.

Needless to say, this means that like Civ4 now, the jump would have a specified start/end point and path.

I'm still trying to figure out how to space them. I believe most of the superweapon techs should come near the end of the military branch of the tech tree.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to sift through the thread for improvement/wonder ideas to try and fill the gaps. I should have a tree done by Sunday, since I have nothing better to do then.
 
We should also include cloaking devices (as a promotion) that you can put on ships so they are invisible to the enemy. Maybe even hitch a ride on the back of a Star Destroyer? :p
 
^^^I had intended to include a rather late-game tech called "Cloaking Device" and this gives that tech a purpose8-)

Not so late as to not be useful though...
 
Well my original plan was to make water tiles into space tiles but now I have a better idea. With the SDK out I'm going to make a whole new domain, Space

-Admiral Daala for the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Kevin J. Anderson,
-Joruus C'Baoth from the Thrawn Trilogy, Timothy Zahn,
-Ysanne "Iceheart" Isard from the X-Wing series, Michael A. Stackpole.
 
donstamos... i no that... u'd have to put a turn limit on the whole thing depending on how far ur traveling... and good idea on the whole "1/2 the galaxy" thing... i love these forums....
 
im playin version .6... is there any higher version?
 
nope not just yet, right now i'm waiting for TheLopez to release a version of his mercanaries mod that is compatible with 1.61 so i can merge it into the star wars mod
 
Not sure yet, the tech tree still needs worked on and we're still working out Civ specifics.

Of course, my answer won't be the official one. I just think it'll be a little bit yet.

I should have the tree done tomorrow. A lot of the techs might end up starting out empty until we get more improvements, etc. Does anyone have a blank one? One without text, I mean. Trying to erase that text and keeping the shading behind it is HARD:x
 
Are you talking about the graphical one you're creating? .... just put a white rectangle over each text and write what you want!

I've suggested to Civmansam to release the next version once I'm finished coding the tech tree that DonStamos is working hard to finish, and once we put in a majority of the basic units ... hopefully he likes my idea :)

if i remember correctly didnt cloaking devises mean that the cloaked ship couldnt see outside the cloaks effect bubble. and if so cloaked things should lose some visibility
 
You remember correctly. In fact, in Dark Force Rising, when Thrawn "first" tested the device, the ship he was testing it on did not even disappear from sight, just his sensors.
 
The tech tree is about halfway done and wow it gives you a migraine. Shqype, I don't know how you do it;)

I've already had to change the starship branch of the tech tree with another because there weren't enough tech slots for the starship techs.

I'm still trying to place the Turbolaser techs, which will lead to Planetary Bombardment and Advanced Weapon Delivery in relation to the captial ship techs and starfighter techs.
