So it's agreed? We'll have scenarios and the regular mod?

Hey, I've been helping out with this mod since Oct. 2002 longer than anybody here. :p

The Mod is called Star Wars: A New Mod. The thread is called Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back.

The different leaders for different scenarios sounds like a good idea. :)

The plan all along was to have scenarios and a free for all mod


@Odin - Could you post a list of the Yuuzhan Vong units here? I don't know a whole lot about the Vong.
 
Ok, ok, Yuuzhan Vong unit tree. Well, I figgered something like this. You know how the Republic would have jedi and the Confederacy would build sith? Well, Yuuzhan Vong would build amphistaff warriors. (An amphistaff is a reptile that can be shaped into a staff by shapers. It can even repel lightsaber energy.) And since everyone else uses droids, we use the Zombie graphic for Yuuzhan Vong Slaves. (The Vong use Coral implants to possess humans, then make their bodies shrivel away.) And the third of course, would be ranged weapons. Everyone else uses blasters. The YV throw carnivorous insects called razor bugs. They land on you and eat your flesh. Sounds fun, huh? :mischief:
 
@Chris85- here is a unit tree (i think) for the Yuuzhan Vong (not including the ones already mentioned by odintheking which are the Razor-Bug Infantry, Amphistaff Warriors, and Coral Implant Slave)

Rakamat- "light" AT-AT sized walker, only with six legs. Like all YV units, is organic and resembles an insect (from what I can tell- no pic yet). Launches powerful plasma ball from its mouth. Is a light walker because because YV have even bigger ones.

Fire Breather- Heavy Walker has 6 legs and a bladder shaped body which produces pyro-chemicals which are shot out via a long proboscis. The Fire Breather is also protected by more symbiotes that secrete anti-laser aerosols into the air.

Coralskipper- the primary space superiority fighter of the Yuuzhan Vong. Main weapon is a kind of small volcano throwing small molten rocks. They are strictly space vehicles and perform poorly in planetary atmospheres, and are also not designed for long-range travel and must often rely on larger vessels for transport. Grutchin- a bioengineered weapon that resembles a giant grasshopper and is designed to tear through ships and kill the entire crew. Can be a missile/torpedo in mod.

Yorik-Stronha Spy Ship- a bioship that resembles an asteroid and is used as a spy ship. The Yorik-Stronha is sent into enemy territory before the attack fleet to spy on the enemy. It is equipped with a cloaking device- could be a scout unit.

Yorik-trema- The Yorik Trema are troop transports capable of deploying 30 Chazrach support troops and 6 Yuuzhan Vong warriors to a planet. The Yorik-trema resembled a gigantic bulbous, green eel with a tail-like aft and two 'eyes' above its volcano cannon which was located in its mouth-like opening. These so called 'eyes' were actually Yuuzhan Vong sensors which could be used for tracking both enemy starfighters or its escort coralskippers. Transport (obviously)

Koros-strohna World Ship- Super-ship, battleship + transport, 10 km long. Its main body is a disc-shaped bulk littered with hundreds of weapon projections and other protrusions. On the edges of the Worldship are several large spiral arms, causing the ship resemble a galaxy. These spiral arms or outrider ganglia were used to dock the worldship's Coralskippers. They can also be used as solar sails to push the worldship through space. Carries 200 plasma cannons. Heavy Battleship

Uro-Ik V'alh- carries 80 plasma cannons, Cruiser

Tsik-Seru- organic vehicles used by the Yuuzhan Vong as atmospheric fighters/speeders. Resembles a manta ray with a few, short tentacles, heavy armor, and plasma cannons. Repulsorlift

The only problem is that these units very rarely have good descriptions or pics associated with them, and the biggest challenge in making them is finding out exactly how they look like. I think it would be best to leave the Yuuzhan Vong civ and units for last after having completed all the other civs. Let me known if there are any unintentional unit tree deficiencies in any of the other civs- not enough fighters, walkers, etc.
 
Your idea for different scenarios for different periods would be difficult to implement. The idea of the new game 'Empire at War', and other previous games like 'Star Wars Supremacy' and the like allow you to play from one stage and fight on from there - hapily changing the course of the Star wars Timeline freely. I would thus suggest that the Clone wars mod be set from the commencement of the Clone Wars, just after the battle of Geonosis, and from there you will have control over the Star Wars Universe. The Galactic Civil War should commence right after the Battle of Yavin, as this is when the rest of the galaxy heard of the Rebels properly - all over the holonet. The Yuuzhan Vong war will be represented by the huge quantity of invading troops over a vast quantity of undefended planets.

These 3 periods will form up the 3 base mods. TCW - the Clone Wars, GCW - Galactic Civil War, NJO - New jedi Order.


Scenarios should be used to represent important battles - my ideas are shown thus;
Film 1-1. The Battle of Naboo.
-Droid control ship = king, Nute Gunray = King. Both must be eliminated [mass regicide].
-Gungan Fambaa represent gungan king units - mass regicide again.
'The Duel of the Fates', the battle between Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan will not be represented, as this aspect would not work.
Film 2-1. The Battle of Geonosis
-Mass of clone units fighting mass of droid units - droid ships are king units, and must be protected. Jedi obi wan and anakin have to fly to hangar [im not sure how this would be implemented - be on transport surrounded by mountains, and city is the hangar - obi wan and anakin fighting sith lord Tyrannus to try and capture city, yoda following behind?
Film 3-1 - The Battle of Coruscant
A big space battle, regicide, king unit being for seperatists the Invisible Hand [grevious's cruiser], and jedi starfighter squadron is the other king unit. No cities - perhaps the invisible hand could be a city instead of a unit?
Film 3-2. The Battle of Kashyyk
Lots of different new wookie units and clone tropers fighting against a droid army. Not much to say here.
Film 4-1. The Death Star.
Our heroes have to chase through the death star to claim princess leia from the detention block, mass regicide again, got to kill all defenders of detention block.
Film 4-2. Death Star Escape.
I don't know if this could become a scenario, but any ideas would be appreciated.
Film 4-3. The Battle of Yavin.
King unit = exaust tube, small number of turns to complete it in. X-wings fighting Tie Fighters on surface, trench represented by impassible terain either side. However, may require interesting new terrain set... Deflector towers stand in way of trench, need to be destroyed first.
Film 5-1. The battle of Hoth.
Loada AT-ATs, loada hoth troopers. Twelve Snow speeders. Darth Vader and snowtroopers have to reach Echo Base, defended by ion cannon and shield generator [shield blocks entrance.] Star Destroyers in orbit. Possibly get rid of Destroyers and ion cannon, as are ahrd to include.
Film 5-2. Bespin.
Heroes battle way through stormtroopers to 'capture/destroy' target millenium Falcon. [regicide]. Other king is chewie, lando, leia, if one dies the whole game is lost. It might work...
Film 6-1. Sail Barge Assault.
Jabba is the king, heroes run round on sail barge and skiff, other king is artillery guy, who shoots at skiff with han and chewie on. Units - skiff, luke, leia for rebels. Luke has to kill artilery, leia has to kill jabba, and then they can meet up [or not] and grab the gun, and that will end the game.
Film 6-2. The Battle of Endor; The Forest Battle.
As the battle of Endor is so immense, it will come in two parts. First, the forest battle, where the Ewoks [AI] will help the Rebels [human] attack the shield dome controlled by Imperial Ground Forces [AI]. Either that, or ewoks and rebels have to battle their way through a stack of doom of stormtroopers and AT-STs to 'capture' the shield generator, which is the one city available. Ewok villages and rebel landing zones will be in completely inaccessable areas, and the rebel commandos can get in and blow the place to pieces.
Film 6-3. The Battle of Endor; Space Battle.
This could be done in any of the following ways.
1. Last a certain number of turns.
2. Destroy flagship SSD Executor. [Regicide - other king is Home 1]
3. Break Imperial Blockade to death star [very inaccurate, the Imps were behind the rebels].
Film 6-4. The Battle of Endor; Superstructure Chase.
The rebels travel through the superstructure, like the trench but with turns, and have to destroy the king unit 'reactor'. other king unit is millenium Falcon [sorry wedge.]

I hope some of these ideas are used, i have already made a first attempt version of the Battle of Hoth that i can post if anyone wishes to try it. Tell me by tomorrow, as i leave for holiday for a week on tuesday.
 
God this things igetting complex. Can we perhaps just get the Mod out and then add the scenarios/updates to the mod afterwards? Because otherwise i fear nothing will actually be made.

btw the Juggernaut-its not looking good im afraid. If you want the unit, then im afraid someone else may have to complete it-il upload the model if you want so you dont have to bother modelling it (in 3ds format). But i am still working on it, just talkin an unbearably slow time to make due to that darned real life thing again.

@swc: hi! Welcome aboard. I may sem new to you because i havent posted in aeons, but i assure you im still actively reading everyhting!!! ;)
 
Ok, i like these scenario ideas. Well, most of them- Sail Barge Assault and Bespin are kinda iffy. I don't really see the fun in having only two units (luke and leia) and only needing to destroy two units (unimportant artillery guy and Jabba) doesn't seem to entertaining. With Bespin (and all other 'escape' scenarios like escape from the death star) it just doesn't make sense to someone playing the game- you have to destroy the Millenium Falcon? It also doesn't seem very fun either. To be honest, i couldn't come up with anything better for those scenarios. However, the other ones sound really good. I also suggest that the 'king unit' for the Naboo scenario be Boss Nass or Queen Amidala (maybe both) as opposed to a Fambaa Shield Generator- in Episode I the fambaa generator was destroyed, but the Gungans still won.

Also, i found a map of the star wars galaxy that gave me a cool idea (for map, see
http://www.supershadow.com/starwars/map.html). I don't know if, for the Clone Wars or even Galactic Civil War mods, you can have the map start out with all the planets already under the control of the respective civs or if you are going to start out with the map blank and have the civs build up their own empires independently of star wars. Both would be fun, and would please everybody. By the way, has anyone started a map for the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, or Yuuzhan Vong invasion (since they would be played on the same terrain map with only minor differences- Alderaan would be gone in the last one and sometime during the second) ? If not, i'd be happy to start working on one seeing as i don't envision the possibility of me working on units anytime soon.

Hey, mrkingkong! And yeah, thinking now it may just be easier to finish the mod before starting scenarios.
 
Hey, thanks for the ideas, SWC. I was going to add grutchin warrior, but you can my predicament with the 80+ units we already need. I figured that we can just have a razorbug warrior graphic, and reuse it by calling it something different every era when they upgrade (razorbug, thudbug, blastbug). For the ships, the real beauty is the no-pic thing. We can just use other spaceships, recolor them, or make them look evil by cut'n pasting.

I doubt it matters too much however which one you use.

I needed to know the right one since i put the title 'StarWars: The MOD Strikes Back' in the intro movie. I didn't want to make the intro movie only to be told that the title was wrong.
 
I doubt it really matters too much which it is called, we'll call it either for the purposes of the mod - maybe we can say the original was 'a new mod' and this one is 'the mod strikes back' - the better version of the two.

. . . And then there'll be a 3rd version of the mod called Return of the Mod. 16 years after that there'll be prequel mods The Phantom Mod, Attack of the Mods, and finally Revenge of the Mod. The prequel mods will be shunned as not being as good as the original 3 mods and The Mod Strikes Back will always be known as the best of the mods. :lol:

I too think it is a better idea to finish the MOD first, and then start on scenarios (especially if we want it done before Civ4...)
 
when i fielded this idea i got a few :goodjob:, but not a consenses or group agreement- just to get this straight- is there going to be a 6th civ called the New Republic? Again, it wouldn't be too hard to make- it would just be a combination of Rebel and a few Imperial units and it would make a lot of sense considering they are the ones to fight the Yuzzhan Vong. In short, we wouldn't need to make any more extra units, and the only thing that would require any extra work would be the Chief of State Leia Organa diplomacy figurehead.
 
We could use them for the YV scenario, but I think having them in the regular game wouldn't work. It would be kind of bizzare to have the Rebels and the New Republic in the mod. Most of the same units, etc. Anyway, I think we already bit off more than we can chew at the moment. Let's wait till we have more of the mod done to make more units and another new LH for another civ.

Well, i could understand the arguement :rolleyes: , but it wouldn't make sense to have the new republic in YV headed by Mon Mothma and without all of its units. She gave up the position of Chief of State of the New Republic to Leia Organa Solo only a few years into its creation, and died well before the Yuzzhan Vong invasion. I hate to bring the discussion back to scenarios (only briefly, then im off that topic for awhile- i agree w/mrkingkong, odintheking, and pretty much everyone else, scenario talk should be saved until the mod is done) but for the Yuzzhan Vong Invasion scenario it wouldn't make sense to have the Rebels under Mothma fighting them- a new civ makes more sense than a civ controlled by a dead figurehead. So, yeah, i guess right now it'd be ok to put that discussion off.

@odintheking- the only thing the new republic would need is a Leia LH- other than that it wouldn't need any extra units that would already have been made.
 
Just wondering, is there any non-unit work left needing to be done? I'm still trying to get the hang of unit designing (through which i have gained a newfound respect for all unit makers :goodjob: ) but if there is anything else-a map, civilopedia entries, anything let me know- i'll still try to work on some units, but i'd feel more productive doing something im already good at. :)
