Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back

its jsut a mod for now, i've made a scenario too, but i don't know how good it is [battle of hoth]. I might upload it some time... yeh, all the files go together... please post any problems with it, feedback is essential.
 
The empire incorporated droids into their starfighters for the battle of mon cal, but tended not to stick with this idea since they were vastly incomptetent (and after the destruction of the world devestators it was impossible for any more to be built). Droids were generally not used as warriors after the clone wars, as they were the losing party... if you have a heirarchy of units, won't that prevent the diversity the alliance and empire use? you can't jsut use snowtroopers - they'd overheat on desert planets, for instance...
 
Well, ok, we'll have to think of something else. BTW, the heirarchy for the Rebels for offensive land units is:

Rebel Trooper > Rebel Commando > Rebel Guerrilla > Mon Cal Trooper

And the Empire's basic offensive land unit heirarchy is:

Stormtrooper > Sandtrooper > Heavy Trooper > Dark Trooper

I just have to have a unified theme for the unit to go with the trees. If some has suggestions, let me hear them so we can better these.
 
Okay, while seeing the new SSD and TIE Bomber, I'm wondering about how we're going to implement sea/naval units. Sorry if you guys already talked about this before I came, but I have a good idea if we don't have a solid one yet. I say we replace ocean terrain with space, and have fighters/destroyers/blockade runners/control ships in space (sea) and use the reguar civ3 air system for bombing runs, where you either base in a city, or land on a carrier, (in Star War's case, carriers would be a medical frigate, a droid control ship, etc.
 
What a coincedence, I was thinking of almost the same thing. :wow:

I have a fear that the AI won't build Fighter and Bomber units if they are naval units, because it will prefer to build more powerful units like capital ships. I don't know this for sure, but the AI has tendencies like that. I think Fighters and Bombers should become air units; however, I wish there was a way air units worked differently in Civ3. If we do that it also adds another dimension of strategy to the game.
 
We did that for the Star Trek mod. Haven't seen the AI do much with the shuttlecraft so far though...
 
Well, I think that the bombers could work in air, but the fighters? I've never played an AI that built air fighters. Ever. We could put them in space, but to make the capital ships harder to make, we can limit the # of capital ships by 4 or something, then make them obselete, therefore when they run out of capital ships, they can only make fighters.

The AI does build fighters, everytime I go to war in the Modern Age, almost half of my bombers end up getting intercepted, so I know they build fighters.

The AI constantly builds fighter. My bombers are always getting knocked out by them. It probably depends on what AI your playing agaainst, whether it's aggresive or passive and the 'Most Agressive' feature when you set up the game is probably in affect too.
 
has anyone done an intro movie yet? If not ill do one.
 
This time round, I guarentee you the first Beta of this mod will be in January 2005 and the final release of the mod should be ready by March-April 2005. So, any help to keep to this deadline or to speed it up would be grateful.
I don;t understand. Is there already a beta out?
 
Yes polyphemus, although the original target dates were massively set back by the desertion of the original team! ;)

The Beta (by Sheepmonster) has been uploaded earlier in this thread (only a few pages, maybe only 1 im not sure). But the final is a way away i think...

sorry to say, ive almost halted all work on the juggernaut, as i am trying to make a practice unit and get it to work before i screw up that animation...
but i WILL make it, thats a promise!

So, if no one opposes, ill go ahead and make the intro movie. SHould be done in a weeks time if not sooner.
