Welcome to the fully restored MIA Acropolis!

ModernParthenon_181.jpg

Points of Interest:
* Twin Trees of Meleet
Take some time to enjoy the shade and contemplate the beauty of creation underneath the Twin Trees of Meleet. The trees represent the two lands of Meleet's creation… and the two lands destined to be controlled by the MIA Empire.

* The Walk of Presidents
Along the side of the Parthenon is the Walk of Presidents. Take a stroll and reflect on these images representing past and current Presidents. Before each image are candles, representing the number of turns these leaders lit the way for the Eternal MIA Republic.

* The Eternal Flame of TNT
The path leading to the Parthenon contains the Eternal Flame of TNT. It was lit by the first refuges to arrive in Athens, and through marvels of joint engineering and scientific prowess, the flame is kept eternally burning no matter the weather.

* Chamnix's Cavalry
Set off to the east of the Parthenon is the massive monument commemorating the wildly successful campaign to rid the Green Continent of the foul KISS stench. The 50 foot high statue is made of gold captured from pillaged KISS cities. It depicts President Chamnix leading the gallant MIA forces into battle riding on the back of a Cavalry horse. If you look closely, you can see that the horse is standing on golden rail road ties. Thus commemorating the twin tactics of rails and cavalry the Chamnix used so effectively to route the KISS.

Stay tuned for General W's Presidential updates…
Live from the Acropolis!!

From the Desk of the President:
* Well, it’s going to take me a bit to get all the way back into the saddle here.
I apologize for how this report is a bit rough around the edges.
I’ll be making it better and adding more information as we go along. If there’s anything I’m missing (besides the screenshots) that you really want to see – please let me know. It may already be on my list of things to add… but any comments will help me judge priorities.

* I think the turn went pretty well – no serious mistakes… that I know of!
I just got a little behind on time when I didn’t play last night to wait for orders.

* Please give me lots of comments and feedback so I can do the best job possible for the team.

:salute:

Images:

* None this turn – sorry! In the future I won’t wait so long for orders… just had some bad timing, and now I’m out of time.
Next update will have screenshots.

There’s been some kind of horrible mistake.

We missed getting scientific method by like 6 beakers?!?

I went back and check the old save – at 30% science with just 20 scientists turned to taxmen, we should have been fine… according to the game.

Is there some horrible rounding rule I don’t know about?

Anyway – if someone could tell me what happened – that’d be great so we don’t do this again. I guess we just get a bunch of money this turn?

In other good news (sarcasm) – we appear to have lost our Frigate by Pale dove to a Privateer we couldn’t see previously.

Looking at the saves, I think the problem may have been Far West Port. Last turn you probably moved a citizen from the iron hill to the fish for extra food. That town would then produce 1 beaker.

On KISS' turn, they moved a galley onto that fish, so the governor moved that citizen back to the iron hill which cost us 1 beaker. Apparently that was enough to make us miss Scientific Method.

Definitely not your fault - the only way to avoid it would have been to deliberately overshoot what we needed. I guess we should do that in the future - live and learn. So we'll accumulate some extra cash for bomber rushing.

I guess we also have to be more careful to leave all our boats in port even if we can't see a threat - we shouldn't chase ships that are too far away until we have a decent stack of frigates, but that is a Defense issue.

That’s a better theory than any I could come up with. I actually didn’t move any citizens in Far West Port… but something like that must be the explanation.
Agh!
Yeah – for future reference, we’ll have to not get as greedy with the tax men.

I don’t have orders from defense – but I think I’m going to go ahead and play. I’m going to rush some more frigates and attack what I can.
I’d rather wait, but I’m not sure I’ll have time later.
Update coming soon! If you have any comments on Defense, please post asap.

:salute:

i don't know if you played the turn yet GW, but Defense would be like a few more frigates this turn, so maybe rush another 2 or 3 in coastal cities.

Just finished the save... but the good news I did rush 2 new frigates!
Update soon...

From the Desk of the President:
* I’m still having a hard time getting over the fact that we lost out on Sci. Method by 6 beakers (According to CivAssist). Something must have moved due to KISS action like Chamnix has speculated. Oh the Humanity! Well – we won’t let that happen again. In the meantime, we’re going to become very wealthy… which always helps. More money for bombers to thank KISS and the Dnuts for throwing off our research.

* Sorry I played without waiting for Defense – hopefully what I did was ok.

:salute:

Images:

* I took a bunch of screencaps this turn… but Image shack isn’t working this morning? (or else it’s my wonderful new internet connection <sarcasm> ) Anyway –I’ll try it again later and post the pictures then.
Sorry!

Ok – informal poll…

Since my internet is so slow and frequently obnoxious at home… I'd like to cut back on the number of images required for the State of the Empire thread if possible.

Is anyone actually looking at those shots of the whole North of our land or any of the Battle Island shots? I don't see them as particularly useful… but if people want them – I'll figure out a way.

Let me know!

IMO, they are certainly not necessary every time. Periodically, I look at them to see town spacing, etc., but since pretty much nothing changes from one turn to the next anymore, old pictures work just as well.

I have no problem with you cutting down on images.

Cut back if you need to... I am now able to open the save at work (yippee!!)

On an unrelated note, I have also finally advanced to Civ4, and just today started my first PBEM game.

But seriously, don't sweat the screenshots on my behalf anymore ;)

From the Desk of the President:
* It was a pretty quiet turn. Other than bombing that KISS Galley, not a lot happened. I've accidentally delayed founding our second-to-last town, Spice of Life – but since it will just be building wealth anyway, I'm hoping it's not too big of a deal.

* Thanks for the feedback on the images! And I'm very happy for you Peter! :)

From the Desk of the President:
* I believe I left 5 more scientists than necessary to get Corporation. That’s probably overkill… but in the runup to getting the Theory of Evolution, I really don’t want to risk another SNAFU. Anyway, I was still able to convert 10 scientitst to taxmen, and I created about 5 new taxmen from stopping citizens in the north from working 1 and 2 fpt tiles.
