February 1859, Update 1
*Sigh* poor Portugal. Mearly a hundred years ago they were at thier pinnacle of power, as the richest and most far flung empire in the world. Now, they are picking up the scraps of what France and Britain have already eaten. In a desperate move to save face with another mighty empire, they exchanged thier Recife colony with the Incan's Congo colony. Lets just say, the move hasnt worked as the Portuguese had hoped.
All rebellion problems in Recife ended once the Incans took hold. Having thrown away any resemblance to a Euro power with the disposement of Sir Drake, the Recifes had no problems joining a grand South American power. But for Portugal, thier problem in Africa has continued to grow. The Zulus continue to ransack thier land, and have even declared some of it for themselves. And Ethiopia's statements of African freedom have spurred several sects within the colony to declare indepedance. Thier barely more than gray blobs but they could become severe setbacks to the Portuguese comeback attempt.
Guyana is now an Incan province. Refusing to surrender, they toyed around with the Incans, even shooting a few before a whole regiment of Incans totally wiped out Georgetowns small militia. Seeing thier fight was hopeless, the Guyanans have surrendered. The whites living in Guyana were promised equality, so it wasnt that hard of a decision. As one man put it,"Meh, its just Guyana"
Rio de Janeiro, somewhat frightened at the sudden flexing of muscles across thier border, has requested alliances from powes that be to the North of the Incas, hoping for some insurance incase an attack comes to them.
The continued standoff between the United Statian, Texans, and Spaniards on the California border....continues. It seems Texas and the US are near a deal to attack the colony, but will the Aztecans join in as well?
Not much else is going on in North America, unless you count GIANT MUTANT CLAMS!!! Nah, just playing with ya. Britain continues to build up forces on the border of the US, causing great alarm and frantic build up of thier own.
Fighting in Italy breaks out as the Pope's devout followers begin to establish thier own rule over Rome and such. The French soldiers are ordered to attack any organized resistance by the Pope. The initial fighting is scattered and somwhat confusing. The French are unable to point out attackers and innocents. They do captured 2 Bishops within the resistance, but so far they havnt been able to squeeze any info out.
With the recent fighting, many religious catholic figures inside the Napoleonic Empire have decried that holding Papal land is a crime agaisnt God himself and have asked the French people to support the Papal States in their freedom. Around 500,000 soldiers of the French Army have defected to the Papal resistance and while this number isnt much to the huge army of France, it is a big moral hit. An even bigger number of French citizens have joined up, wishing to assist the Pope.
Ahh, and more about the woes of France. Going along with the whole 1500's theme of Religious insurrection, Martin Luther has returned (well, Martin Luther the 20th or so) with some reformation to share with France. The whole of Germany has risen up with him, although the French Army hasnt been phased by the Reformation as much as it was the Papal Resistance. Berlin remains in French hands, but soldiers in Munich were forced to evacuate when fires and huge amounts of inner city warfare broke out. Perhaps the French should regroup and try to attack again later...
Now for some good news. The Reformation, while a large force, isnt a large force inside most non-German heads so its unlikely it will grow past Germania unless a major victory occurs. The Ethiopian cry for African indepedance has also fell on deaf ears in Northern Africa and Somalia, the Africans do not feel used and wish for no war.The major attempt to educate the colonies of France and better them has definately helped support those sentiments.
Railroads and industry continue to grow in French Indochina & Indonesia. They are not quit India's level yet, but the increased economic activity and increased wealth of the average Colonist has quelled some flames of independance in Siam.
Austria has begun a campaign on cultural tolerance, and while it seems to have helped at the moment in Europe, a revolution in thier colony has broken out. They are incredibly violent in thier first swing of the bat, burning all Austrian signs of culture in Nairobi and slaughtering 2,500 Austrians within the city. Will Ethiopia stand by these savages?
All of the other colonies have remained quiet, but there are uneasy grumblings. Liberia has been granted its freedom, albeit as a vassal of the United States.
Turkistan begins its manifest destiny by...giving up some land to Russia. In the Astrakhan Treaty, Turkistan is granted full autonomy but has its ruler selected by Russia. Hey, I didnt write up the treaty. Also, Turkistan gives some soldiers and a city (+1 eco for Russia) to Russia, like they need more. But most importantly, Russia becomes Turkistans ally meaning that wherever Turki goes, Russia must follow, as depicted in the following....
WAR!!! Ahh, war, we love war dont we. The Turkis, despite losing 750k from thier warpool, still know how to kick figurative butt. Sending the rest of thier highly trained forces to take over the Middle East, the Turkis find very little problems initially, take up to Shiraz before encountering tough resistance. Ottomans finally reach the Turkis, and even though they cannot save Shiraz, they retreat to small villages on the outskirts, making for tough travels. Tehran continues to hold out, mainly just because it has soo many more people defending it then people are attacking it.
With the attacks though, come the mandatory independance calls. Seeing thier chance, the Saud family of Arabia grabs hold of Mecca and Medina, calling for all Muslims to help tear down the Ottoman Empire. Ottoman troops were about to go to stop the Sauds when...
MORE WAR!!! The Turkis love war, but so do thier companions, the Russians. In a somewhat predictable move, the Russians have poured on the pain invading from Armenia. With Ottomans already in Iran and Arabia, the Russians have little problem overpowing the border forces with artillery. They have only been stopped by the need for sleep, and have reached Mosul and nearly Baghdad.
And things got worse before they got better for the Ottomans. The Russian fleet, newly mobilized, headed toward a battle with the Ottoman fleet at Constantinople. The Ottomans fought valiently but were no match for the numbers of the Russians, as they soon brought in ships to land thier army of soldiers. From there, the Russians have blockaded the Euro Ottoman Empire from the Asian Ottoman Empire and layed siege to Constantinople. Greece has also joined in, taking up to the city and landing on Cyprus.
Everywhere else, things are much quieter. China begins to modernize its nation and it has greatly taken in the support of the poor with its programs. Still, there are those who think that the rich corrupt the nation and shouldnt run it. Such is the reason for the small uprising Western China. Not much size to it, but if left uncontrolled it will spiral into something bigger.
Spain has sold the Phillipines to Japan for 2 economies. The Filipinos dont really care to much.
