stCVNNES: In Story and Song

The one closer to the coast.

The one further up the Nile, or southwards. Probably the middle nation, though I haven't been paying attention, honestly. :p

It is "upstream", hence the name.

Whoops. I actually didn't mean that last: brain fart.

Yeah, I know. :p

Hello, brothers. In the interest of peace in the Deccan between our two great peoples, we offer you an alliance, and a proposal to decrease tariffs that bar further trade between our two peoples, thus increasing trade for the both of us. Thus, trade and alliance, which will allow us to become the most powerful nations in the Deccan. What say you?

“South, West, East. An impressive list of gains for our nation.”

“Yes. But not complete.” Omprakash studied the map that lay rolled out on the table. “We have made conquests in all but one cardinal direction; we have a sea empire that extends broadly, but it is unstable. We must conquer northward, to achieve balance, stability.”

“You would attack the Chalukyas.” Ganesh was unsurprised. After all, this had been the natural direction for a Pandya expansion for years. “That is why you made an alliance with the Cholas. You intend to isolate them.”

“No, my son.”

“But Father! Surely we are strong enough–”

The king held up a hand. “We are strong enough, yes, but not for a bloodless victory. It would be a victory which leaves us weaker, not the stronger. A wise king you shall be, Ganesh, but you must recognize the time and the place to attack.”

“Why the alliance, then?” Ganesh was confused.

“To make them more paranoid. To convince them that an attack is at hand.”

“That will only make them all the more likely to attack us, preemptively. And we may well fall.”

“No. They will not attack us. Not until they have sufficient forces, which means they must have allies. And allies are few in number for them.”

“Then what would you do?”

“Attack northward, over the sea.”

“That will gain them allies in the north!”

“Doubtless it shall. But they will have few allies in the north, for these ‘allies’ of theirs shall be harried by the invasions that our men report occurring at this very moment. And they shall all be suspicious of each other. More so of us, but also of each other. And we shall play them off each other, and while they fight...”

“We attack. Neatly done.”

“For a certainty. Leave me now, I must pray.”

OOC: If some jerk decides to take the Chalukyas and then use the information in this story illicitly just to mess up my plans, I will be pissed. :p

When will stats be done?

Oh, on Memorial Day. Doing something for the holiday, I see. Well, I might as well fire off some NPC diplo to keep this on-topic.

We wish to negotiate a non-aggression pact with your nation for the duration of (however long three turns is).

Great deeds have come to pass. Our warriors are victorius and battle honors have been awarded to the those deserving. Our mighty horsemen's first blood earned them the priviledge of a battle song.

War song of the Anyang cavalry

To horse! To horse! To battle Anyang rides
To horse! To horse! The moon of battle’s tides.
Our steeds, likes storms across the plains, appear,
Beneath their flashing hooves, our victory is clear,
Our swords as swift as eagles fly
And those not running, stay to die.
To horse! To horse! To battle we will ride.
To horse! To horse! Victory is our bride.

From The Yellow Emperor, Sage King Huang Di
To the Lords of Zhou:

You are awash in ruin, in a land laid waste
Anyang’s armies proceed in haste;
Qin chews upon your northern flank,
They’re opportunists of no sovereign rank,
With your heads they seek to make your fate
One of hanging upon some burning gate
And your women bound in servitude
For beastly warriors proving fortitude;
So now before the curtains fall
While I hold this war on stall
Take a breadth and heed my urgent call:
I spare your lives,
Your children, mistresses and your wives;
In noble comfort you’ll hold court and good times toast
At the seaside along our eastern coast;
Zhou, a stately province it will be,
If you promise fealty;
If this message is understood,
You know We’ll promote the general good
And take all Zhou’s people under wing
So soon your praises they will sing;
Put your arms at my command;
Your generals have not yet earned a reprimand;
Combined our force will have much might
And to the Qin we’ll take the fight;
Quickly, lands once lost, will be regained
And peace will spread unrestrained;
There is no time now to delay
Further war is on the way;
And an ugly death holds you in view
Reply with “Peace” and all this I’ll do.

Chronicles of Anyang: Affairs of the Heart

On the balcony over looking the Morning Garden of the Red Lotus, the Yellow Emperor sat in repose as Luo Zu, his young bride, composed a new hymn to the goddess Cuiv, now rising in the evening sky. Their eyes drifted to the north and then back to one another. Their feet touched.

Luo Zu: Do you think we will hear from our northern embassy soon?
Huang Di: I do hope so. The rumors are intriguing, but a few facts would improve my disposition. Such a migration of barbarians cannot be neglected or ignored.
Luo Zu: In the market my ladies hear that their women are very beautiful.
Huang Di: Perhaps they are, but they will pale in your bright light much like the distant stars do when Cuiv is in her glory like tonight. You need not fear my eye will wander like a planet through the bejeweled night.
Luo Zu: My Lord, I blush!
Huang Di: And are all the prettier for it. But news would be good. We've waited long and held ourselves in check in hopes of their return. May Cuiv bless their journey and speed their return.
Luo Zu: I shall sing to her tonight.

Note: Ancient records show that the target of the messengers were the un-named nomadic tribes to the north of Anyang.

when are orders ussually due

Our schedule is a bit undefined for now. This game is picking up after a hiatus and Cuiv has not yet firmed up a schedule. I suspect that as school ends and summer gtes under way she will work out something. She posted a tenative plan for the next week just after the last update. :)

Short update, I know, but I covered everyone who sent orders. I don't have time to do stats right now. Also, I will be away until Monday. That means no update this weekend. It also means that, starting in about an hour, I won't be around to answer NPC diplo until Monday evening.

I also won't be around next weekend, but I hope to be able to do an update during the week next week.
So perhaps an update on Weds or Thursday. That would mean orders due Tuesday Weds.

:lol: I was also wondering when orders were due too!

Back now. Orders due Tuesday (preferably), Wednesday (absolutely). I leave again on Friday morning, so I'm on a limited schedule here.

We agree to an alliance only if you agree to avoid colonizing all of the coastline of the Bay of Bengal north of the Irrawaddy River.

Sure.

Any other NPC diplo I missed?

I don't have time to do stats tonight, alas, but I will finish them tomorrow. NPC stats probably won't have changed drastically, by and large.

Anyang to Zhou. Become a protectorate or die. The long verse was much more elegant though.

Any stats on Qin before orders?
