SteamDB: "Bison" Depot??

Who will break off from the Huns or Shoshone?
Poland and Iroquois????

There's this one mod that I'm quite fond of called 'Culturally Linked Start Locations'. The jist of it is that similar culture groups start together; European civs start near other European civs, Asian civs start near other Asian civs, African civs start near other African civs, and so on - it also affects City States. If they do have revolutions spawning new civs, it could be something similar to that idea. A revolution in a European civ will span a new European civ, a revolution in an Asian civ will spawn a new Asian civ, a revolution in an African civ will spawn a new African civ, and so forth.

It may not always make sense historically, but at least it will make more cultural sense... Well, unless the Zulu spawn from a Moroccan revolution.

We're going off topic, but revolutions could simply spawn minor civs that have rebelled against the AI/Human players.

We've seen that mechanic before, and I rather liked it. Instead of spawning barbarians when people became too unhappy, a "new" civ spawning would be more interesting and an added layer to "puppet and forget it" that is more or less the standard routine.

Coupled with a colony mechanic, this would allow to grab resources farther out sooner, but at a risk of revolt (aka America).

I actually believe that's how Gedemon's mod, Revolutions, works. When a certain predominate culture group in your city becomes too unhappy, they start spawning rebels (Minor-Civ units) who will attack your city and pillage the land.

Sorry, I meant that i don't want Persia spawning next to me because i play too badly, but a city state instead.

I'm not sure they could do that without re-writing the code for how City-States work. I could be wrong, but City-States are still fairly stupid (not that a full civ is any brighter in some instances) so that really wouldn't be any better than the lame barbarians that pop up now.

Ideally, you'd get an actual civ, so it can operate like a normal civ, but have a flag that marks it differently so that if you reclaimed it, you'd not take a diplo hit to a civ following Order. However, letting them exist could give you a diplo bonus to say those following Freedom.

Like I said before, it is a mechanic we've seen before, and one I think would do nicely to flesh out another expansion. It could build upon BNW and the ideologies (if only how one reacts to colonies), and maybe make exploration a bit more useful by having a colony bonus and add explorers to upgrade scouts.

So....anything new at the Bison-front?

Nope - not yet.

There was a flurry of activity (minor file updates) on the Steam depots before Christmas, but nothing since then. I'd assume most of the people at Firaxis are away for their Christmas holidays at the moment, so I don't think we'll see anything until next week at least. Also, they're unlikely to release any new DLC during a sale as some people might accuse them of being stingy if it isn't discounted. With luck we'll hear something mid-January.

Well, they didn't put one of the Scrambled DLCs on sale either, even during the Flash Sale.

I agree. Whatever it is is at least several weeks out and likely more.

I agree with the quote, in that whatever this ends up being, it's likely quite a ways off. There's been no press release, nor any rumors from anyone involved (as far as I know, at least).

It's probably months away, whatever this is, unless it ends up being rather small (like a map pack). If it's just a map pack, it may release soon without much press beforehand. But if this is indeed a larger DLC, then I doubt they'd forego a press release in the weeks, or, as the quote suggests, months beforehand.

What was the time between the first press release for G&K and the retail launch of that expansion? Or BNW, for that matter? Should this be a third expansion (which is at this stage just a possibility and nothing more), I'd imagine the time between the first press release and the retail launch would be roughly the same as for G&K or BNW.

Well, the Civ development team listens to the community, and the community has been rumouring away like crazy. From that we can gather that the newest DLC will be a major expansion pack with native american civs, ancient mesopotamian civs, and Street Fighter civs. In addition to those, some versions will have certain soviet and post-soviet civs. Futhermore, colonization will be added to the game, and a new unique resource: Bison.

All this, as well as Bison shaped maps - and the correct facial hair for Gustavus Adolphus - will be featured in the game.

:lol::lol:

That made me giggle.

Anyway, I doubt it's an expansion pack, way too early for that, if there's a third expansion pack it won't be out until like July/June, it's most likely a DLC for sure, hopefully some sort new civs, nothing is more fun than to play a fully 3d leaderhead civilization with new color schemes and a fun UA.

Yes, I would greatly approve.

And perhaps they'd make a new animation for when you forgive an AI for spying, and might reverse the defeated animation of the leader?

Though this would cause Isabella to levitate her crucifix into her hand and Harald using psychic powers to retrieve his helmet.

I wasn't around the community until shortly after BNW was announced, but did anybody keep track of how long the DLC's, G&K, and even "One World" had Steam depots before they were announced? It didn't take long from when we noticed the Map Packs a few weeks ago to when they were announced and released, but if I remember correctly, "One World" was spotted a few weeks before the expansion was officially announced. And it's been a few weeks now since "Bison" was spotted, and I was curious if the original DLC's took this long, if they were ever spotted pre-announcement, to perhaps compare by way of time what we may be getting from this new DLC/possible third expansion.

I wondered the same - I think both "One World" and the placeholder name for Gods & Kings (which I've forgotten) were spotted at least two months before the press releases announcing them (themselves a couple of months before release), so they can be there for some time. It would still make it a bit of a stretch for Bison to be a full expansion with that timeframe, although not a huge one.

I actually found something bad about the holidays:
There's no activity by Firaxis on SteamDB to watch, puzzle over, and speculate about.

I hope this work-break pastime will return soon.

Why do I have the feeling that almost everyone is waiting for something huge, and that actually, it will be a mere minor dlc ... ?
