SteamPunk Home

I like steampunk in general, it makes for very cool worlds and designs. I don't really like the pics of the costumes Abaddon posted. A lot of them look like they were just straight ripped from an anime or manga. It kind of lessens them, in my opinion.

My examples are poor I admit.. but it is surprisingly hard to find satisfying images.

Winston, i'll have to see you guys if we end up in Brighton at the same time (I live there but am currently in NZ for 6 months)

Steampunk is an indulgence of pathetic fantasy by bourgeois capitalist elitist pigs who will pay dearly when the Reveloution comes for their behavior.

"Oh look how cool my mechanical Victorian hat is!"

Yea, if I had a nickel for every time that happened!

Yes Anime are cartoons that are not for the child, but for the man-child.

No, because the Simpsons aren't Anime.

 You are ridiculously bad.

Hmph. It seems they are crawling out of the woodwork to attack me from afar, under the guise of criticising my views on Anime.

So it begins.

Well... Surprisingly and surprisingly... :p

I do love a good steam punk story (book, anime, whatever - there are some quite interesting worlds developed within them), but it works best while being left inside such stories.

People who enjoy the Simpsons are men-children?

(is that how you pluralize it? seems weird...)

My avatar isnt really anime, it's basically animated Power Rangers that was so AWESOMELY BAD that it had to be honored. Since I'm in the pattern of honoring awesomely bad things, my next avatar will probably be of you :)

As for steampunk, it no longer impresses me. I think it's overdone a bit and I'm kinda tired of the fascination with the 19th century as a whole. Maybe if there was some truly awesome epic steampunk game I could sink my teeth into I would enjoy it.

I like the settings. Arcanum was a fun play and both Perdido Street Station and Scar by China China Miéville were great reads.

Real life "steampunk artifacts" are only cool if they actually work, in my opinion. An USB stick with a clockwork paint-job is lame, but wiring an old typewriter to be usable as computer keyboard would be pretty awesome.

Thank you for admitting how awesome i am.

Moderator Action: Useless, you have made your point about not liking Steampunk. Unless you have something more to the point to add, you might consider moving on.

Thats kind of how I feel about steampunk, it sounds cool, but almost everything I see about it is unsatisfying.

It's not that i dislike it, but its just that i find it bland, in comparison to other fantasy settings. Why have a machine when can you summon a water elemental to smother and drown your enemies?

Not really a fan at all. Especially if it's non-fantasy...I can accept a little bit of "alternate tech" in a fantasy setting but real-life 19th century ish alt history stories and all...bleh. Surprised all you guys had nothing for the ole' shipping thread though...all the weird fanon type stuff I was expecting.

What if it incorporated not only steampunk, but also fantasy and magic? Would you be more interested?
