What do you think of the site?
I just created my account a few days ago (well was able to hook up my cam and mic finnaly)

Do you have one?

My user name is Elta if we get a few people on I'll create a CFC OT chatroom :king:

Who? What? Never heard of it.

So its a make your own TV station thingy?

There are chatrooms http://www.stickam.com/chatRoomEn.do where there are generally 12 spots for webcams-mic ports you can choose to have everyone up and everyones mic on or pic and choose who you can see and who is muted and who is not.

The main draw is the go live functuion
http://www.stickam.com/whosLiveBeta.do
You go "live" and people can enter your room and chat with you (with or withou their cams on...like the regular chat rooms)
There are alot of radio stations broadcasting through it and podcast that go live while recording.

The site seems to be growing very fast, so much so that myspace banned links to it :(
after it did that the site changed itself to have a networking aspect like myspace does.

You should all create an account whether you have a cam or not so you could at least snoop around in the chat rooms ;)

Nobody?..... this is my last try - go to Stickam.com and click on the big feature with the pheoneix fm feature, I am in there with my cam if you want to get an Idea of the site ;)

I actually think it's a cool idea, but the site is pretty much never going to reach "critical mass" (i.e. the point where the site gets so large that the fact that it is so large is itself the reason to join up).

I dunno there are 5 or 6 sites with at least 20 million users and myspace is only at 180 million + myspace blows for a million reasons I am sure you have already heard (yes I have an account there but, that doesn't mean I like it)
Plus alot of them are growing 3 or 4 times faster than myspace , google list of social networking sites ;)

Myspace is still king, simply because it has most publicity (although most of it is bad). Teens will make myspace profiles first because that is the obvious choice, and most likely with the most friends there as well.

face book is allready 1/4th the size and growing 3 times faster, I wouldn't rule out the possiblity of it growing larger, it is not as if you can only be on one site, or have to pay.

I hope nothing grows larger than MySpace. It would become just as corrupted and suck twice as bad. Some of those networking sites are actually half decent, but they won't be if they grow too big. Legions of preteens will detroy any good thing.

Facebook was virtually unknown when it was limited to a small number of US colleges. When it opened its doors, it grew, because people who didn't go to college had friends who used facebook, so they made a facebook too. That's how these sites grow, but they need a "critical mass" before they grow at the rate that Facebook is growing.

Myspace has stopped growing for two reasons:
(a) It's got 180 million users, so it's likely that most people who have friends on myspace are already on myspace. I.e. there's no-one left to sign up!
(b) It's becoming increasingly unpopular, as people who used it two years ago start growing up and going to university, where Facebook is king, and as more and more 14 year olds use it and turn it into something rather more childish than facebook.

The same thing happened with ebay -- it's been around for over a decade, but it's grown faster in the past 2 years than in the previous 8 combined. That's because it reached "critical mass", especially outside of the USA.

Yeah that makes sense but, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a new site coming out with some innovative features and such. Advertising and an innovative interface can do wonders.

p.s. do you know why myspace out grew freindster? I don't want to make an account just to find out since they probably have adapted by now anyway.
