stJNES5.2: From the Beginning
Update 2, 2300 B.C.E.
Across the windswept barren mountains, the Lydians push further into Anatolia. The tribes inhabiting the area are known for their hostilities, most of them are Hittite, but their small armies cannot resistant Lydian foot soldiers. On the other hand, with the establishment of the Rhodesian colony, Hittite trade flows through the colony and into Lydia. The increase in trade has more than paid for itself, wealthy merchants took matters into their own hands and built a road joining the colony to Sardis. With the influx of wealth, the King has paid for a new route straight to the Thracians in the north. The enormous amount of goods traveling along the new road has created a metropolis at the banks of the Dardanelle, which is called Byzantium. The city has become a trade center, with goods flowing from the east and into Europe. (+ Econ. Level)
The Finlanders land on the other side of the Baltic Sea, attempting to set up a city that will help claim the land for Finns. However, not all goes well. The native inhabitants, the Vikings, dont take well to the newcomers, especially since the planned city site is directly in the place of a Viking settlement. Worst comes to worse, and hostilities break out. The Finns, with superior training and weaponry, slaughter the Viking menace, and establish the stone city of Stockholm, but the population remains a constant 500 people, not enough to sustain a presence for much longer.
On the boot of Italy, the Sicilians continue to harvest their crops and protect their colony, but sadly, it was not to last. A ravaging tribe of Italliots coming from the northern part of the peninsula, come crashing south, their full might upon the Sicilian colony, Croton. The city has been in decline in recent years, most of the military based there was withdrawn back to Sicily or sent to its new sister city, Tarentum, in the east. The gates did not hold long, and the city was soon captured, burned, and pillaged. Meanwhile, Tarentum is established, another Sicilian colony, which seems to get along peacefully with the natives that surround it.
Antigot expands overseas rapidly again. The city of Enitot is established on the Iberian mainland, miles away from any other civilization. Furthermore, the Balearic Islands are easily settled and intertwined into a large trade network that reaches from Antigot, to Enitot, and finally to the Numidian capital, Fea. The towns and tribes that border this trade route are among the most prosperous and lucrative on the planet. Meanwhile, a loan colony is established on the African mainland, near the militaristic Fez tribes. With little connection to the mainland and little attention due to the Numidian trade, the colony is not expected to last. Already, many settlers are leaving due to huge Fez attacks and little defense.
In the land of the East, the Song continues to expand their Empire, controlling many different cultures, yet the people remain homogenous. Civil strife and power struggle plague the dynasty, with twelve attempted assassinations and half a dozen minor rebellions.
Into the barren Iceland in the north, the nation of Lapland is suffering compared to the rest of the world. As temperatures continue to drop, the crops are harder and harder to grow, and the people rely more and more on hunting, making it difficult to found a permanent settlement when herds travel.
On sun-baked sand, the Persians stand ready for the annual Bactrian horde to appear through the mountain pass. And, just as expected, the march could be heard, and finally, the vision became apparent. Having positions throughout the top of the pass, the Persian archers let loose a fury of arrows, followed by a flanking move by Persian horsemen. Surprised yet not defeated, the Bactrians regroup and make a dash for open land, where the meet the Persian infantry. While not as trained as the Bactrians, the Persians hold the line until reinforcements arrive to encircle the Bactrians, forcing a surrender. The Persians win the Battle of Mountain Pass, and effectively end the Bactrian raids upon their country. Meanwhile, constructed galleys deliver a force to the Arabian peninsula in the south, as well as aid the army in expanding to the east.
The city of Palmyra, a trading metropolis, comes under attack by Assyrian forces. Envious of the enormous wealth of the Palmyrans, the Assyrian king desired the strategic city for himself, and so made no waste of time into gaining it. Nearly fourteen spearmen regiments accompanied by horsemen, were sent to engage and take the city. In face of the enormous army, bloodthirsty and ready to destroy the beautiful city he had built up for decades, the King of Palmyra silently abdicated and allowed the Assyrians control. (+economy).
Isle men are sent on a mission in Ireland to gain land and hold it for the Kingdom back home. The natives on this island are rather peaceful, and have never fought much, and so do not really resist the settlements. More Isle men are sent south, to aid the Angles in their wars against the Saxons, and have almost achieved victory. The northern half of Saxon territory is under Angle control, and the south is under heavy attack. Meanwhile, internal trade facilitates better with road construction, and many more towns are built along the coasts.
Three nations land in Sardina, all in different locations, and all overwhelming the once-proud nation. In the north, Antigot is the most powerful, taking nearly half of the island before the Carthaginians and the Sicilians even land in the south. Losses are light, since it is spread through all three Kingdoms, and so are easily replenished.
Magadha expands rapidly along the Ganges river, and beefs up its own military force by requiring that the surrounding tribes donate forces if they wish to remain in existence. Losses are relatively light in expansion, yet the army is now becoming a burden to control.
