Update IV 1400b.c.e.
Events:
Phoenician galleys, equipped with sails, have increased colonization of the Mediterranean, bringing more and more merchants to build warships to protect their colonies. Most of the warships are then sold to the King when the company goes belly-up. By this way, the King has gathered a massive flotilla of ships to protect the colonies that Phoenicia has created. Meanwhile, at home the country remains one of the most backward countries in its regions. The cities are without walls, the streets are left unpaved, and the shipbuilding and weapon building industries work with backward technology. To add to the troubles, a huge group known as the Semites have migrated from Babylon and Assyria to the area known as Canaan and have begun to unify, threatening Phoenician rule. Whats more, the Hittites grow in power and number, intimidating the Phoenician army, which is already spread throughout the colonies. Meanwhile, referendums are held throughout the Phoenician early colonies, populated 90% by Phoenicians, if they wanted to stay with Phoenicia. The result was that they did.
Assyrians, through superior tactics, are able to charge the Babylonian army head on. Meeting in a momentous battle outside of Babylon, the Babylonians are defeated and retreat to behind the city. However, another army of spearmen, west of the Euphrates, is able to capture key Assyrian city-states and annex the land. Whats more, Hittite warriors begin to train and expand their dominance north of Assyria.
The Muscovites send a huge army south against the barbarous Sarmatian horsemen who threaten their borders. Upon arriving, they realize that the Sarmatians are practicing Kievism, the main religion in Muscovy, which was spread by priests peacefully in the land. The people, seeing how hopeless it was to fight the Muscovites, just joined them and so the city of Sarmatia was constructed to civilize the steppe people. This also serves as Muscovys first port, and trade begins to flow into the land. Scythians take as much land as they can before meeting with Muscovite troops, and they take the Crimean peninsula, which has a huge population of ethnic Sarmatians.
While expanding into the wildness around them, and recuperating somewhat from the blizzard, the Swedish make a startling discovery. An emissary from a civilized nation, as much so as Sweden, known as Norway, if met. He gives greetings and hopes for a long cooperation between the two kingdoms. However, the nobles of Sweden are not happy with this new rival. They call for the King to lead an expedition to destroy the neighbor, or they will do it themselves.
Many tribes leave the Mali traditional homeland to join the Songhai army, creating Songhais second official army. These Mali warriors are fierce; knowing no civilized way of battling, and know how to battle in the desolate desert. Meanwhile, sensing their defeat near, Mali herdsmen in the north band together to form the Chiefdom of Mali. These loosely united tribes have agreed to elect a council that would be the supreme law of the land. The first test is given to the new Mali nation, as the Songhai send newly and highly trained Mali Warriors to fight their own brethren. As the two people battle, the land is ravaged by pillages and the moral stoops low. Meanwhile, the traditional Songhai army is sent south to continue expanding along the Niger, creating an empire along the river.
Carthaginian forces have finally gone on the offensive, stressing their ability in fighting beyond what was expected of them from their generals. Spearmen, backed by archers, make waste of the Numidians hordes by attacking head on. Meanwhile, the city of Carthage begins to grow from extensive trade with the Phoenicians and their colonies. Carthage is now second to only Phoenicia in the amount they trade, all coming through the city of Carthage (+1 trade). However, the city is a mess dirt roads, poor structures, and little education. It is embarrassing to those traders who leave the port markets.
Meanwhile, in Arabia numerous tribes spring up. In the south, Hadhramaut rises from various tribes uniting, and Saba in the far south rises to challenge the authority of the Macoroba of the surrounding areas. However, the city of Jizan built in the south by the Macorobans help secure the dominance in this area, and bolster Arabian architecture (+1 infrastructure). The Hyksos continue to remain dormant, conserving their power and energy to release a final blow upon the Macorobans.
The King does not forget about Celtonian trade and infrastructure, and great amounts of treasury are spent upon the improvement of the city roads and canals in the past. However, with the need of better ways to build the roads and canals, plus manage the labor, the school of Thought is established in London. However, many are worried with the new tribes that have emerged in Britain, including the Brigantes in the north and the Welsh in the west.
The Roman army organizes under the new Legion system, making the soldiers one of the most effective fighting machines in the world. However, with the increase in power of the Romans come the resistors. All expansion is halted as barbarian tribes make their appearance on all Roman fronts: the Celts, Helvetians, and the Illyrians. Though inferior to Roman legions, the barbarians are fighting on their land, for their cause, and with large numbers of mixed soldiers (horsemen, archers, macemen, etc). However, education bolsters in Rome, and the first currency system is created (+1 education), using small bronze coins as a means of currency instead of bartering. This stimulated the sluggish Roman economy (increase economy). Meanwhile, Etruscan walls grow higher and thicker as they prepare for what they believe will be a Roman advance on them as spies and diplomats are found sent by Rome in secrete to break the nation apart.
As the Roddyinians expand, the army is used less and less as tribes peacefully join, or are persuaded by a minor and small military conquest. Meanwhile, at home the middle class grows as more are hired to do roadwork, canal digging, house building, and fieldwork. Also, more are employed in education, smelting, and even more as minors in the new mine in Berezka. The result is many leaving the army to join these domestic projects to earn more prestige and spread their name around more so then the army has (decrease army). However, a new nation finally arises to challenge that of Roddyinia the Bulgars.
In the dense jungles of Africa, the Bantu launch an attack with their Banuban allies against the tyrannical and hostile Ubangians. The assaults are disastrous. Better trained and more numerous (the Banubans didnt send too many men), the Ubangians push back the feeble attacks and prepare for an attack of their own.
German raids into Prussia have resulted in the cause of deaths of many Prussian villagers. Outraged, tribes all over Prussia have mustered together to form an alliance against the marauding Germans who pillage their towns. The result is the nation of Prussia, highly militarized and thirsty for revenge against the Germans.
The growing shadow of Illyria in the north has prompted the establishment of a Macedonian fort and military base in the far north of the nation. When protected was secured, many migrated from the rural cities of the south and founded the city of Tirana around the fort. Meanwhile, back in Macedon, the first paved roads are found along the first canal of the nation as the King focuses a bit more on the domestic issues. However, the country is still very military-active. A joint force of Spartans and Macedonians result in the fall of Athens and the incorporation of the city into the Macedonian empire, and the colony in Anatolia is founded (increase economy).
The Spanish are caught off guard as General Lione leads an army of Aragonese into the wilderness and around all the Spanish defenders to attack their rear. The attack is so quick and unsuspected that the Spanish scramble to mount the same defenses ordered on the border, but Aragonese chariots catch them off guard from the north and destroys their chance of mounting an effective defense. The Aragonese push the Spanish back to the river, where the Spanish are finally able to get a hold of themselves and defend the river.
Egyptian villages prosper along the Nile as domestication is introduced to the farmers
The Nubians meet with Egyptian armies on their side of the borders, and minor skirmishes take place between the two armies, resulting in a few casualties that are quickly replaced on both sides. The Nubians are never off their guard (so, as they were ordered, the Egyptian generals did not attack). Meanwhile, Rhacotis exceeds Thebes in trading capacity and profits, to be named the most lucrative city in Egypt. High trade with Rome has resulted in the first class of Egyptian nobles. With this, the Egyptian nobles afford an education, where they are able to domesticate the first animals in Africa: sheep and cattle. This greatly adds to the economic prowess of the Egyptian empire (increase economy), and with the huge population base now easily supported with food and money, more can afford to join the army (increase in army).
