Economic System of the Palenque

The Economy of the Palenque is based on agriculture. Palenque farmers developed irrigation systems that allowed them to produce the amount of food necessary to support their large population. They also increased their amount of arable land by clearing large tracts of rainforest. Palenque farmers produced crops such as, corn, beans, and squash. Trade in agriculture products was the basis for the strong Palenque economy. Products such as feathers, honey, and cocoa were traded across Central America.

The agricultural sections of the economy are completely controlled by the centralised government. Farmers pay their taxes in crops, which go directly to storehouses, and are distributed amongst the people.

Trade is allowed to fend for itself for the most part, although many sectors of trade are government dominated aswell.

An overview of the Social structure of the Dominion of Trikk. (I have no storywriting going right now)

-

The Dominion follows a strict caste system, there is virtually no social mobility, there is a clear division between the founding Trikk families and the other tribes. Religion and state are closely tied, with the Monarch (male or female, the Trikk are not sexist) serving also as a high priest. The High Priest has been granted the power of prophecy from the High Gods. The High Gods are the Gods of the nobles (a religious and social standing) and serve to protect them and to keep them strong, the Low Gods are the Gods of the common folk and are of slightly higher standing than the nobles, though they are not as high as the monarch.

Slavery is a common practice to the Trikk and slaves are branded, freedmen recieve an extra brand and a scar. This also serves as a check on slaveholders because if you treated your slaves so poorly that they scar and brand themselves you probably don't need to have slaves, especially considering that the freedmen symbol is highly intricate and painful to brand.

Freedmen are fourth class citizens, and their testimony is not admissable as evidence for a trial and they may neither bring trial nor marry.

Common people may marry as they see fit, they can bring trial against Freedmen and other Commoners if they have a Noble to represent them in court.

A group of nobles is elected by the Nobles every cycle (4 months) to serve as Justices, they enforce the Monarch's decrees by hearing lawsuits.

A patron-client system thrives, with assorted nobles taking the role of patron to commoners who arrive at their homes each morning to help them by performing tasks for them, the commoners are rewarded in many ways, among them being that their noble will generally represent them in court and will help them in assorted ways. They do these tasks in addition to whatever regular jobs they have to feed their families.

-

The economy is agrigarian, mostly farming based with stoneworking for tools and prized woodworking.

Woodworking is especially treasured, in fact the Monarch generally holds an annual woodworking festival, the champion of which is promoted to a minor noble position and given a military comission to win himself a land grant, he may keep as much land as he conquers, though all of his land remains under the command of the Monarch.

Entira

"They came from the sea, created a city on the river, and prosspered." A celt chief in a nearby camp near Entira.

The Enitra did came from the sea. They were traders looking for new trades. They left their homes from the east and sailed the seas for a long time until reaching this perfect spot. Entira was a city on water. The people who came on ships called themselves Akkadians. They said they were defeated by others and almost all of them were killed and slaughtered. A small group escaped to the coasts and built ships and when their enemies came to the coasts to, the Akkadians left with boats to never be seen again, until they made it to this area. It was a river, a very strong river that they built the city on... They created wooden floors and bridges around the river and built their houses on them. Not much later they created a wall around their city location and decleared themselves as a free country. To not be remembered as Akkadians they called themselves by the way the celts called them, Entirians. Their capital of Entira grew and celts begun to come and live in it as it prosspered.

It was a republic. The citizens, rich Entirians, went to a forum that was in the middle of Entira and voted for many subjects like war and expansion. The leader of the country was king Almo the 1st. Only his sons could continue to rule as kings and they were the actual rulers of the country. The Forumers could only stop what he King said if all were against it, and usualy the king did not have to listen. but it was never the case, the kings were good and with the forum all worked togheter to bring Entira to be the heading city state of their area.

Entira had about 20,000 Entirians and about 7,000 celtic civilians. The city was a spot of sea trade with unknown ships the docked in the ports for time to time and a center of trade with the celtic tribes north and west to Entira. It was a well defended city as a small army gaurded the ancient walls that were fixed every year because they were made of wood, that all the time got wet from the river and had to be replaced. The Wisers, Scienticts, promised they will find a better material to build the houses, floors, bridges and walls...

OOC: Don't start the update yet! Don't start the update yet! You have another "Europe" country joining!

Btw, not sure if I understand the tax/economy system clearly. You can't spend economy levels, but spend tax instead, but if you spend it on economy, then the tax income grows? Right?

Story:

"Aedor. The divine wind. The eternal sky. The God Above All Gods.

"O, mighty Aedor! How strong you blow this day, punishing Gaia for her disobedience! O, the fear you instill in the hearts of Men and Gods, Horses and Dogs, Children and Elders, Slaves and Chieftains!" - exclaimed the old high priest, covered in his bear skins, standing with his back to the mighty wind of Thrakia - Thrace.

He was very, very old. It was time for him to make the sacrifice, for the sake of his people, far to the north - for he would not live for much longer. High Priest Bospar prepared himself, he trained well. But fear was instilled into his heart as well. Aedor was in his full strength here.

He turned around to face the wind. The cold, powerful wind froze and burned his face. He took all his willpower into one final move. He was to become one with the Aedor, to plea for his people. The Thracians.

The Thracians were retreating from the mighty armies of Aedor's brother, the Nameless One, Lord of the Northern Winter. Their lands, far to the north on the great river Dunaros, once so fertile, became frozen and barren. The Thracians needed a new land, a hideout. But the Nameless One was moving further and further south. It was obvious to Bospar that no mortal or god could stop the Nameless One - save for Aedor.

"No army could stand against the Divine Wind of Aedor..."

Bospar was not an army. Simply an old man. He was pained, but he mobilized all his willpower. He climbed the hill, and stood on it, looking defiantly at Aedor. A man standing against the wind is a sign of stupidity... or bravery. Aedor knew the difference, and respected bravery.

"O, Migthy Aedor! Take me, and hear out my plea!" - Bospar's mouth and tongue were pained greatly by the wind. Yet he continued to yell at Aedor, so that Aedor will hear him.

"Aedor!!!"

The bear skins begun to be torn off. Bospar could no longer see, but still, through coughing and though blood begun to spill out of his mouth, Bospar continued to chant, and chant, and chant...

...and he became one with Aedor. He no longer had a human body, rather, only his soul escaped, and joined with the migthy wind of Aedor - for what is soul but the small wind inside a mortal's body? He could not speak. But his mind was a part of the Aedor's mind. Aedor knew about the predicament of his people.

Further, further, much further north, snow was falling at the camp of the Thracians. The Thracians were hiding in their tents, horrified, and only a few dared walk out to defy the vanguard of the Nameless One's army. And even they went to the tents, shivering not as much from cold as from fear, when the wind begun to blow.

Aedor was coming. The Nameless One was horiffied as well, knowing that he could not even hope to defeat the Aedor. But, as stubborn as so many mortals, and more arrogant then any of them, the Nameless One marched to the battle, rallying his entire force. Snow was falling in huge amounts, blizzard fell as well, snow storms were surrounding the Thracian camps, and the ground begun to freeze.

Aedor charged in full force, forcing the snow and the blizzard to break ranks and collapse, or join him and fly right at the Nameless One. The tents were almost destroyed by the fighting armies, and the Thracian refugees were lying on the ground, hiding from the two angry Gods.

The army of the Nameless One was being defeated. Desperate, the Nameless One fled as well, but Aedor pursued him, forcing him to abandon much lands, yet even Aedor was tired, and did not wish to expel the Nameless One from his few remaining strongholds in the frozen north. Never again shall the Nameless One threaten the Thracians and other peoples like this once more.

And so, Thracians, grateful to Aedor, continued to travel south, as the freed lands were still barren, will be for many years to come. The south was untouched, though. There was time for a new beginning, and a place for one, as well."
- Tale of Bospar and the Aedor, as recited in "Early Thrace: Myths, Legends and Facts".

---

Chieftain Seft jumped off his migthy stallion as the numerous Thracian nomads finally reached the northern coast of the Great River of Aedii that some said to be not a river at all. Between them and the coast were several hills, one taller then the others.

"Tell me, o High Priest Metos, what is the name of this land?" - the chieftain inquired of his High Priest.

"Though yet unnamed, it is from now on Thrace. Know, Chieftain, that our town should be founded around this larger hill." - replied the high priest, saged and wise.

"Why should it be?" - asked Seft.

"It bears the mark of Aedor." - said one of the lesser priests, but the high priest shushed him.

"It does indeed bear the mark of Aedor," - said Metos, smiling - "But it is even greater then a simple shrine hill. This is the Hill of Bospar, the Greatest High Priest who saved Thrace!"

"Indeed?" - Seft wasn't sure how would Metos know that, but decided to trust him - the high priests were meant to know things like that.

"Indeed."

"Then we shall name our new town Bosporata, in the name of the greatest High Priest of all of Thrace."

It was warm here, and the land had much to be liked about it. Thrace would start anew here.

Will story writes that write long and exciting stories get any bonuses?

I may join if I have time later. How could I miss the beginning?

Of course, confidence increases with long stories :).

I may just update today when I get home, since I will have much free time.

Italy.

Warring city-states vie for power and superiority over their neighbours.

The Senate and People of Rome control The Latin states …

…but enemies surround them.

The Republic stands at a crossroads in history…

Aeneas speaks to the Tribal Council of Rome, sometimes known as the Sentae.
“Romans! Senators! Friends!

Latium is firmly under the rule of the Senate and People of Rome!

The Latin people are now one!

Not since noble Brutus drove out the last King, have we known such a glorious day.

But now, my friends, in this hour of glory, we must be on our guard.

To the south, treacherous Greeks and Samnites block our trade!

Tarquinii groans beneath the tyrant’s heel!

That tyrant threatens Rome!

Will we abandon Tarquinii?

And now barbarians raid from the north. Burning and pillaging roman lands!

Shall we let danger fester and grow?

Or will we act as Romans? With courage and dignity.

Remember.

We are the Sons of Mars!

As senate leader I call upon Tribunes Gaius Julius and Decius Brutus to smash the Gauls and relieve Tarquinii.

All those in favour say I.”

The Senate responds:
AVE! AVE! AVE!

Infamy! Shame!

No!

NO! NO!

WAR! WAR! WAR! WAR!

“I”

The Senate gaves its reponse and the armies of Rome readied for the march and the battle!

*note- start me in the azore islands IF i would be able to expandin into both europe/africa, and the americas

if not, then change my nation to Valencia, and start me on the site of Valencia, Spain, with my government being a republic

xen, you could expand into africa and iberia in the iron age...but not America...at least not until later age when bigger ships are available.

well, what kind of "bigger ships"

my enitre idea was that once, around classical times, witht e advent of trimemes, i coudl island hop to bermuda, and use it as a staging point to get to the americas duirng that era (is that okay?)

*note, change classical to iron age

Bigger ships mean late medieval age. Bermuda is out in the middle of no where, even if you happen to find it when sailing around in the open ocean, it is even less a chance to find America. That is, unless the Americans are able to reach Bermuda too...

OCC: When's the update? ;)

Edit: Oooooo.....the map's updated!

one would assume, that my nation- beign out in the middle of the ocean itself- woudl hqave navigators worth of sailign west and, if not bumping into bermuda, then bumping into the considereably larger coast of the americas

anyway, sign me up as Atlantis in teh azores, and we can talk about all the techniclaities later
