stJNESX: From Bad to Good

Use the force, Jason. Maybe then you will be able to finally update.

stJNESX: From Bad to Good
Update 13: 800bce

A philosopher by the name of Servi is born in Gujarat. His views towards life, eternity afterwards, and the pursuit of utter truth spread throughout the nation, and soon turned into a cult called The Cult of Truth. With Servi, now 89 years old, as the leader of the cult, he has led to many reforms within local governments and chiefdoms, strengthening the integrity of the state.

The Boers and Bantu rise in South Africa in response to the growing power of the Zulu.

As the Saracens and the Akkadians make peace, current borders are agreed upon. Therefore, since the capital of the Saracen Empire is occupied, the Saracens move their new capital to a lonely village with a deep well, the village of Mecca.

People continue to protest about the Jericho jail, but the rallies soon run out of steam and have little impact. Meanwhile, Haisha grain soon begins to flow into Yaimon, and thus into Somalia. The introduction of this grain has greatly helped the Zulu to develop better things in their pastime. Including the discovery of iron technology.

The Hanseatic League is under attack, and not by its own people for a change. The forgotten power of the south, the Austrians, has taken it into their own hands to expand their empire, and they decided it will be at the divided lands of the Hanseatic League’s expense. Having just been through a civil war, and with a seriously outdated army, the provinces that were under attack quickly fell to the Austrian empire. Many of the Hanseatic Nobles are not disgusted by the people, as they blame them for the weakness of the combined state.

Losses:
Austria – 200 swordsmen
Hanseatic League – 500 clubmen, 200 archers

More roads pop up in China and Koguryo. Such roads have brought in an increase of trade through China, but the most wealth pours into the Koguryo city of Beijing, which rolls in the money as the saying gets thrown around, “All roads lead to Beijing.” Also, the Chinese-Koguryo region has replaced Akkadia as the most highly roaded region in the world.

As Kieven settlers begin a massive migration, largest in the known world until now, to the north east, they realize that they themselves number as much as a nation. So instead of claiming to be apart of Kiev, the peoples, after mixing with the nobles, declare them the Muscovites, people of Muscovy.

They Cypriots land once again on the shores of Minoa, storming the eastern shores and quickly advancing inward. For years the island has been in a state of decline, it’s once-powerful and dominate trading empire has been overshadowed by the new emerging Takir and Sardinia wealth, and not to mention the Balearic Islands, which control most of the trade in the Mediterranean. The forces they had were ready, though, when the Cypriots landed, and the battle that decided the fate of Crete took place ten miles east of Knossos, in the foothills of the highest peak. Here, the hoplites of the nations marched against each other, making short hand-to-hand skirmishes before the full fighting begun. The Minoans, outnumbered greatly, had no special victory in which they defeated a larger army. They were slaughtered upon the fields, and Knossos fell.

Losses:
Minoa – 100 hoplites, 200 archers, 100 spearmen
Cyprus – 200 hoplites, 200 archers, 50 swordsmen

A new king in Persia seizes power in a bloody civil battle that destroyed the predecessor’s royal guard, and the combined noble’s power. The first thing concentrated on was the expansion into the wilderness in the north, possibly searching for a land bridge across the Caspian Sea. However, this operation has pulled men from the Indus valley, a potentially rebellious province just captured from the Gujarati. And as soon as you know it, the country erupts in rebellion and now will cost the lives of many Persians to settle it down. Otherwise, the harvest here could be lost forever, hurting the food supply of the Persians.

As the Akkadians realize their fault in outlawing the Egyptian New Revival, the people who left to join the Egyptians, most of them the grandchildren of those who left, return to their daily lives in Akkadia.

The Corsican and Sardinians continue to push against the Salento, and without Takir support, the southern Italian state begins to loose important battles, and the duel islands continue to advance with little casualties. The Salento army is nearly completely exhausted and tired of fighting, leading to low moral and deserters.

Losses:
Sardinia and Corsica – 300 swordsmen, 75 archers
Salento – 700 swordsmen, 50 archers

Meanwhile, the Balearic troops withdraw from Italy, doing what they were sent there to do – deter a war between Corsica and Sardinia and Takir.

Takir and Gaul forces meet again on the field of battle, in the Battle for Paris, south of the city. Takir and Angle forces, outnumbering the Gaul forces who were expecting the Takir to be preoccupied elsewhere, marched early in the morning against the waiting Gaul, who decide to fight in the fields rather then from the cities as they did successfully in the last war. The battle was horrific, much life was lost within the first hours. Gaul, comprising mostly of a infantry army, also had a nice cavalry force, but was routed by the gigantic cavalry forces of Angleland. First Takir infantry and Ching Guard march head on to the Gaul infantry, each army with their own cavalry flank guard. However, when the battle got tough, the Gaul general ordered for a tunnel to be made in the army, and so the infantry were barely able to do it and the cavalry forces, quickly, sped through the middle of the infantry and were able to surprise the Angle mounted forces. In the end defeated, the Gaul was able to inflict serious damage upon the allied assault.

Losses:
Gaul – 400 horsemen, 1,200 swordsmen
Angleland – 800 horsemen, 400 legions
Takir – 500 legions, 50 Ching Guard

Strange, dark-skinned people arrive in Pictland (see spotlight).

Spotlight

“They came from the Ocean like Gods.” - Zachary Taylor, Pict Sailor.

Aboard massive ships that can be seen for days out in the ocean before arriving, strange people land on the shores of the Picts. Dark skinned with black, straight hair, these people are understood to be highly advanced, carrying strange cylinders that, when operated, shoot a small iron ball further and faster then the best archer. Their ships are nearly ten times the size of the largest Massilian vessel, and they speak a language unheard of by the smartest philosopher.

However, small conversation is made between the visitors and the King of Pictland. They call themselves the Delaware, and they express that they are from lands across the oceans. They seem immediately interested in the horse breed of the Picts, intrigued by the beast and claim they have never seen one. Amused, the King of Pictland granted them four hundred of the finest steeds.

The people left as soon as they came, but it is known that they inhabit an island to the north of Pictland, or so the rumor goes. Others say they conquered the small island.

How about an Alliance, we can call it the Slavic Alliance? Kiev also proposes a road that links our Capitals.

Jason hate to be a wet blanket but you said nothing of my attempts to set up a clony in Madagscar. Or do I assume that it failed?

Jason, the effects of the Palace of Caralis (which you have as a "?" on the stats) were +2 Culture, +2 Economy.

OOC: Why is Soccotra Akkadian? I thought it was my colony too.

BOERS?!!!! You do know they're Dutch colonists, right? Oh well, I guess its no worse then Amirsan having an Orthodox Pope of Moscow 2000 BC...

Native Americans seem to be quite developed in this world (I don't quite understand how did they do all that without horses). In that case, why did you forbid people to play American nations?

IC:

It was in 800 years before the prophesized Coming of Baal that the Phoenicean merchant families became recognized entities. Those were the Merchant Houses, and were, effectively, the cornerstone of Canaan's commerce. House Barca, House Opta, House Zidon, House Elpa were the most famous of them.

Like all other Canaanites, Phoeniceans practiced monogamy and had a large family. The fathers, eldest males, were in the middle of the House system. Their children and grandchildren all worked to farther the causes of their Houses. Albeit the Dyarchy - King and High Priest - were not very enthusiastic about the Houses, Sidon and Avulon decided not to provoke a rebellion - besides, the Houses DID pay the taxes on trade, and economy, in the overall, improved.

Competition between the Houses was mostly without violence, and order was kept by the "iron hand of divine justice" - the Val-Tara. A vendetta between House Zidon and House Elpa, that lead to the dissolution of the former, and which was immortalized by Oran the Hyksos in his "Night of Swords", was one of the few outbreaks of violence between the Houses.

The Houses especially profited from the export of Haisha's grain. Control over the port of Eilat was also one of the reasons for the Zidon-Elpa feud.

Diplo:

From: Canaan
To: Scythia

Brethren in religion! We propose to you the Val Brit, Baal's Alliance. We will assist each other militarily, and will share the right of passage with each other.

*secret*
From: Akkadia
To: Canaan

While you may share a religion with Egypt, we can all clearly see that your relations with them are not exactly the very best. If a war begins between us and Egypt, we expect to be able to count on your support - in exchange, we promise to support you against Egypt or against some other enemy as well. Agreed?
*secret*

Orders:
- Our force that is supposed to be in Minoa as per my treaty with Cyprus and as per tossi's orders is to assist all Cypriote offensives.
- Raise more archers (twice if possible with one econ.).
- Continue missionary efforts in all directions. Concentrate on Anatolia, however.
- Continue wonder (5/6).
- Establish the Merchant House system. While this will mean we will have decreased control over our trade (apart from the one in the stats), it will also mean that profits are increased due to the competition between the Houses leading to an overall increase in trade.
- Keep stockpiling iron. Set up many, many forges in Van so that we could be prepared to quickly produce the required weapons for our army.
- Develop Yamion's dockyards to accept more grain.
- Try to, peacefully, introduce our civilization and religion to the barbarian tribes near Yamion.
- 10 galleys, currently somewhere in Persian Gulf, are to start a new expedition, led by Velicar's son. We are to sail east, beyond Persia, to try and locate the mystirious eastern lands we have heard of from the Persian merchants.
- All forces that are not currently in Crete are to spread out equally throughout Canaan - apart from the Val-Tara which will keep order in the cities.

To Indus Rebel's
From Persian Gov't

As you may know a new system of goverment has been put in place, the King asks that your leaders come to the captial to discuss what we can do to end this rebellion.

No you don't, you like being a wet blanket, lol :). jk. Anyways, I will mention it next update (it doesn't matter, cus you didnt make it, sorry :()

das, I know Boers are Dutch, but I seriously don't know other nations to put in South Africa. And soccotra is yours, my mistake. Why did i forbid American players? Well, for one, all europeans and asians and africans would complain they they are more advanced...and two, you'll see.

From Muscovy
To Kiev

Seeing how we are not slavic, no.

From Scythia
To Canaan

We agree.

From Indus Rebels
To Persian Government

We will meet when Gujarat is re-established as our ruling government.

From: Cyprus
To: Minoa

You have been beaten. The best for your people would be to put down arms an accept that they are now part of Cyprus.

To: Canaan

Thanks for your troops! (although I don´t realy know If they were used in this battle... Jason?) I think we can finnish the rest of the Minoans, if they don´t surrender, without your forces. Our military alliance stands!

The Boers and Bantu rise in South Africa in response to the growing power of the Zulu.
Get your facts straight, Jason. Boers arrived in the 1600s. They were Dutch.
Bantu is a general word for black tribes. And why do they have EXACTLY THE SAME MANPOWER AS ME, although they arose this turn?
I feel like I'm playing on Emperor here, in a new sort of game. The NPC's get free goodies and pop up in what appears to be an attempt to spite me.

Orders:
Advance towards Iron Age. Build some temples.
Tell 200 men to build a road northward from the capital.

OOC: Do I have a writing system yet?

To: Muscovy
From: Kiev
Will you agree to the road then?

To: Persia
From: Gujarat

The people have spoken, they want you out. We will defend our people. If that means war, so be it.

To: Aryans, Dravidia, and Bengal
From: Gujarat

Friends and people of India, we ask you to aid us if the fight comes, aid us to free fellow Indians from the rule of those who are totally unlike us in culture and come as conquerers, trying to wrest the lands of Indians from their control and install desert nomads as the rulers of once prosperous Indian Farmers.

To: Indus Rebels
From: Gujarat

We will support you in your fight for return to rightful ownership.

To Gujarat
From Dravidia

We will help you, to an extent.

To Persia
From Dravidia

Let our people go! :).

erik, I have already spoken about the boers. I will not say why I put them there again. second, every NPC that has arrived at this time is about the same strength as the surrounding nations, or else they would just get invaded and making the NPC would be in vain. Just worry about playing, not how the game is run :). And btw, the Zulu were not a united people either...so why can't the Bantu be united?

To: Dravidia
From: Gujarat

Our eternal thanks to you. May Vishnu sheild you in these troubled times.

Edited out of existence.

To Rebels/Gujart
From Persia

IF its war you want its war you will get.
