stNNES VI: A New Fantastic Point of View

Stats are done for PCs. NPCs are pretty much what you'd expect by their location and what is mentioned of them in the history on the front page.

hello, i am new to nesing, how come your nes has different rules than the one i Joined. i tought all neses had the same rules.

Because I am absolutely crazy.

:joke:

Most NESes have different rules than each other. They usually remain constant only when the same person is moderating an NES. Also note this is a fantasy NES, unlike most others on the forum. Furthermore, it's almost a hobby of mine to try and come up with a better ruleset every time I start an NES. I can already say right now that this [ruleset] is an utter faliure [in terms of moderator workload]. :)

Nope. I am ever cheerful and willing to bear with the stats as long as people don't ignore the NES. :)

And, cause you'll be hunted down and killed if you end another one so soon.

We would be willing to sign a NAP with you, but not an Alliance. Until we can trust you (as much as an evil civilazation can trust), we will not ally ourselves with a newcomer.

High General Taekeda

"Twas a mighty battle, Lord Guihigar" the orc captain snarled to Varg. King Guihigar Ac'Varg turned to his disgusting subordinate. The narled green creature looked back from behind strange red eyes. "The rangers should know by now that this is our- er... your land." said the orc nervously. He was dGuoc of the the Guae tribe and he remembered too well how this campaign started.

***

Eight months ago, in the camp of Lord Guihigar the gods visited. Treatur, the blood god possesed Varg. The cheif's eyes turned black as the dark night and oozed a grey substance while his mouth foamed red and he jumped and howled throughout the camp, running through fires and killing his own men in a blind rage. For hours this continued until eventually the spirit left his form and he collapsed on the ground. Most thought he was dead, for he did not move for weeks. And as such, he was buried. At the foot of mount Ghatar where the camp had been. Emediately after his 'death' rival chiefs began to murder and kill each other for the throne of the Kua'dar. A cheif had succeeded, his name was Rahd and he was a weak ruler.

It was then, late at in the dark of night that Guihigar Ac'Varg awoke. He was entombed with his axe and he awoke with his mighty weapon. He strode into the camp like the blood god out of Hel. He slew Rahd and all his followers with nothing but his own axe. He proclaimed himself the first King of the Kua'dar. That from now on these woods we're theirs by right. The holy god had told him that now was the time for the Kua'dar to ascend to greatness. To throw the petty trades with the rangers aside and take what they needed. They were to create a mighty kingdom to rival the civilized nations of elves and men.

Varg ordered a great fortress to be built in the camp and for it to become his capital. Then the preparation began. Tribes of orcs gathered to Vargs banner in their thousands, some small, some large. Their ranks swelled with men as well as rival clans joined the kingdom. They knew that something was hapening, something epic. In an instant the warhost was on the move. The entire army moved off as the women stayed behind in the protected capital with a small garrison. Guihigar led the force against countless small ranger villages. They fell easily, one by one the cute tiny cottaged homes of the rangers were, looted, burned and the occupants either killed or sold into slavery. This was the age of the Barbarian.

Varg walked away from the creature leaving him to direct the men. dGuoc turned to see a human Kua'dar staring back at him, he held his sabre tighter as the man walked up beside him. He grimaced as the stench of burning flesh entered his nostrils. This smell of burning mixed with the sweet smell of the woods to create a strange ordor that smelt distinctly of war.

"Your orcs" said Taegh, drawing his blade. "They do not respect my command"

"They are not under your command, human. We are the proud race of the mountains our only commander is mighty Varg." He turned his head toward Taegh and away from the ruined village. "We do not listen to you, we fought the dwarves for 900 years and we know how to direct ourselves"

"You will listen to my orders, I am the King's general" dGuoc ignored him and simply turned and walked away. He was followed by a smaller orc who sneered at Taegh and followed his captain. Taegh grew angry and in one swift movement droped the creature's head. The orc's decapitated head rolled on the ground and his body followed, spewing blood on the parched grass.

A NAP it is then.*signs NAP*

North King: I hate to say it, but I don't actually understand the Optimal Support portion of the military. o.o Is it a fraction, or something? Sorry...I feel dumb now. :blush:

Story:

I often find myself thinking about how this nation would deal with a long, protracted war. It's something I fear greatly, as war often consumes the populace with hatred, anger, and bloodlust. But I cannot allow this civilized nation to stoop to needless bloodletting, as that is all that truly seperates us from barbarians.
-- Emperor Enrique Valdez I,
The Civilized Nation

* * * *

The Valuan Empire.

A small, upstart little nation with its capital in the old Saja capital, its people consisted mostly of settlers and travelers from elsewhere which had arrived many generations before. Already they had begun to assimilate the tiny remnants of the Elvish population and the ethnic remains of the Saja. Valua prides itself on being civilized -- above warlike barbarians and their cruel ways -- and no where is this more evident than in its own ruler's ideals.

Emperor Enrique Valdez I did not think that an empire should grow based on military power, which was in the end "nothing more than coercion that would eventually collapse". Not to say he did not think a military was important, but it was not the only thing with which he figured into his plans.

[OOC: Argh, weak story, I know. I'll try to add more when I don't have writer's block...]

Orders:

1) First thing's first...Valua's military is extremely weak, and thus makes us an easy target for any well-equipped military. Rally as many infantry as possible on the budget provided [1 Income?], preferably Swordsmen. If the military isn't given some attention now, Valua might quickly fall beneath the might of another empire.

2) Of course, even with a military it'll be rather ineffectual if the infrastructure of Valua is nonexistent and troops take a month to cross the territory. Providing a budget [1 Income?], this will be used to attempt to enhance the road system and such. Even if it isn't enhanced enough to be seen on a large scale, it should at least vaguely improve the infrastructure.

3) As according to the map, send diplomats along the roads to those cities on the map. The diplomats along the pink lines should be accompanied by 200 Swordsmen and 100 Archers [split in half at the crossroads] to serve as bodyguards in case the cities are hostile. No soldiers should follow the brown line, but if the diplomats disappear or are killed there'll be hell to pay! Offer all the cities entrance into the Valuan Empire, and everything that goes along with. If they don't want to, then we can try again later...and if they still don't want to, we can always conquer them.

4) But the town circled in yellow MUST be brought into the Empire. With it, Valua will control entrance and exit of the interior sea! Of course, the first attempts must be peaceful, offer gifts and the like. Only if they refuse multiple times shall we have to get down and dirty. 10 fire galleys are to transport the diplomat across the short expanse, serving as a deterrent to any possible attacks.

[OOC: I hope these orders will do, as I -- in all my density -- find the rules on some things a tad bit vague...]

EDIT: I would forget the map...Xx;;
