...And in other news, the entire surviving population of western Europe dies, apparently drowned in the blood of all those killed in the fierce and ongoing warfare...

From France

We thank you for honoring our treaty, signed so many years ago. I hope that you will act decisivly and powerfully, Germany must be defeated before the war can be won.

If Germay choses to force Ravenna into war, we know no other way to wage war other then those listed.

Whispers in the night… Shadows…

“We will meet with you at midnight by the Holy Temple.”

The words still rang in his ears.

“Come alone.”

He crept along the deserted street. The roads were crumbling, the city in disrepair. Garbage littered the streets, piles of stone from collapsed buildings blocked the alleys.

“We have an offer from a power very high up indeed.”

The torches lit at the front of the Holy Temple gave the only light in the darkness. Few worshippers came here, not to this temple. It was forbidden to those loyal.

“We know that you are not loyal to those who rule you.”

Blood pounded in his chest. The click of shoes on stone approached from the front of the temple. A man, taller and fairer than the locals, appeared into the torchlight.

“But we do not hold this against you. No, not at all.”

The man turned and saw him standing in the shadows. His mouth quirked into a smile as he spoke for the first time.

“I am glad that you have come. There is much we need to discuss. Much that our nations need to discuss.”

His mouth went dry.

“You are the leader of that ragtag band, yes, the one whose headquarters in located in the slums by the river, near the ruined palace?”

His mind numb, he nodded.

“Good. I—or should I say we—have a proposition for you, if you are not too scared to take it.”

BTW, I forgot, but I won't forget again, that those who enter a new age get education level dropped by two. Consider this your friendly moderator's bonus. ;)

Do you mean you'll let it slide for all those entering iron age from bronze age, or just those that has already entered iron age?

All them folks.

Good update, albeit I really don't know why were the Arabs there - supposedly a part of the bunch that expelled the Sabaens in the first place - were so happy to be reunited with the weaklings who ran away from them so easily.

Oh, and:
5 Largest cities:
1. Guangdong
2. Timbuktu
3. Ravenna
4. Chengdu
5. Damot

You said that my city was either the largest, either the greatest, either the most beautiful. Don't remember what. But I think it was greatest.

But I also think that it should be largest in size at least, that Forbidden Palace imitation is taking a lot of space.

And Ahiram shook his head. Those damn idiots... just as he won one war, somebody would give him ANOTHER one. And HE wanted to be a PEACEFUL ruler.

In an upper class restaurant in Taiping…

“I tell you its true Li Zhao Peng! I saw the Head Priest of Taiping bring a woman back to life from death last night!”

“I’ve been from Guangdong to Beiping, from Tokyo to Ani and I’ve never seen the dead brought back to life. It cannot be done, isn’t that true my dear?”

“You can never know Peng, it was said that the Ancient Emperor brought great Heavenly Beings into being with a flick of his finger, and the power of those Beings! If He truly willed so, a mere mortal could be more then easily brought back to life.”

“See what I mean Zhao Peng? Have I ever lied to you before? I guided you well to Ani and managed to get past the Avar Chieftains.”

“That was 50 years ago and now here we are, as old as the High Priest was when we set out.”

“If you don’t believe me, let me tell you the whole story that happened in this city two days ago...”

“You see Peng, the women who was brought back to life was an extremely pious person, a loyal housewife and a famed fortune teller. After visiting the uncompleted Shrine of the Emperor in the morning as in her habit, she talked to the now High Priest Lao Tzu on matters of spirituality mostly on what happens after death and they were seen strolling the avenue as usual. At around noon, she went to a restaurant and ate lunch with her Mother In Law and husband. Somehow after eating dinner, she took ill and retired to bed and the next morning she was found unconscious, barely breathing. A doctor was immediately called and when the doctor arrived, she was dead.”

“And according to all rites of passage, she was doused with perfume and put into a wooden coffin and put to rest within the Earth before nightfall. Since she and the High Priest Lao Tzu were good friends, he was one of the chosen people to talk about the deceased. As per tradition, he was lying on the floor looking at where the coffin was buried and talking about her. All of the sudden, as by divine intervention he shouted

‘By the Will of the Emperor! Lei Li, arise and live once more!’

Everyone was silent since it was known that Lao Tzu was high in the Emperor’s favor, and that by tradition Priests were not allowed to call for the Dead to Rise once more but many sensed that the High Priest himself was under a presence of great power. Everyone then heard a pounding and screaming beneath the Earth and the people gathered immediately took up shovels and begun digging the coffin out at the High Priest’s indication. The coffin was taken out of the Earth, and the High Priest opened it after indicating everyone to step back. After opening it, he said ‘Welcome back among the living Lei Li.’ Everyone was in complete shock as she simply walked up like nothing had happened and began asking why everyone was looking at her funny. She then went about her life as it was before and so on.”

Everyone stared at in disbelief joined by the other people in the restaurant at Kubi Lan, once former Chieftain.

“Hey, it’s the truth! I saw the women myself walking like nothing happened!”

OOC: I have north king’s permission to write this story of the women being brought back from the dead.

Just read it all. Superb writing, you should publish this one day.

One question - about that Chinese army in Burma... weren't the East Asians in particular vulnerable to some local (Indochinese) disease, it being the reason they didn't, at first, expand as far as they could have in China itself? And even if not - I'd expect some rather nasty jungle diseases there.

In a word, das? Plague.

Speaking of which - why didn't it spread elsewhere? We DO trade with the Europeans and North Africans, you know...
