stNNES8: Empires in Flames

True.

From: Tanis
To: Sarisca

Send your ruler over to take up Upper Egypt, or face destruction.

IT in the first 250 years? Dear... gods...

You do realize that this new war will be fought with Copper at the most, and Stone at the worst? :p

Yes, I figured as much. But we have to start somewhere if we're getting a centuries-long bitter struggle and the impossibility of coexistence! :p

Description: Pictish Sailors have settled on the Orkney Islands as fishermen and croftiers, mainly living in underground 'Weems'. Developments in Shipbuilding under the pressure of the harsh yet abundent seas have tied the Islands tightly together; with much intermarriage between tribes and the formation of a governing council and High King. The dense town populations supported by fishing have driven a much more sophisticated society than those found on the mainlands.

Location on the Orkneys of course - A very pale grey for colour please.

Description: For long the Elamites had been just a band of "barbarians" roaming around the asia minor. Recently they settled their capital Persepolis in the middle of OTL iran and annexed the surrounding barbarian tribes. Today, Persians possess powerfull army filled with bloodthirsty and fanatical warriors, waiting for next enemy to destroy. All in all Persians are very militaristic and highly religious people.

Okay, you guys want me to retake Thebes?

OMG, I'm stuck in a country with das and Jason. *bites fingernails, huddles over.

I dunno, I like Sarisca, oh well. I just don't wanna get wiped out then have no good nation. Sorry, I think I'll stay on my nice little island thanku.

You can feel free to convince me otherwise.

Uh which nation would I be? Middle Egypt? That'd be even crappier than upper Egypt. No expansion at all.

No, you'll take Upper Egypt because Lower Egypt is divided between Jason and I. Obey my orders, slave! OBEY THEM!

Because if I happen to defeat Jason, I'll be sure to attack Sarisca. And if you go to Egypt and are defeated, you could always start an exodus, ala Panda's Exiled Arabs that we stNNESers all know and love.

Sorry, I'll stay in Sarisca. I've already got stories written for them.

Besides, it's not fun being landlocked. Look at all of my other nations: Malaysia, Cyprus, Italy, Penguins...

Who said anything about being landlocked? You do know that the Red Sea exists, don't you?

Sigh, I didn't want to do this, but... *Mithraist rebellion in Parhae begins*

Vive la doublepost!

First Orders
Create my country.
Expand the army and land based economy.
Invade coastal lands in Southern India and try get as much land as I can..
Spread my religion.

Nation Name: Tanis
Capital: Tanis
Ethnicities: Tanite Egyptian
Religions: Egyptian Polytheism
Government: Divine Monarchy (de jure; de facto, more like an Oligarchy)

Description: Tanis is Egypt's gateway to the outer world, and as such is of much commercial value and the city's most prominent families didn't want to share the profits with anybody else; this led them to invite foreign mercenaries (whose commander Androgyn (believed by some to be "Androgeos") became the first king of Tanis, a title that gradually became cermonial) in order to combat the rising power of Memphis; albeit Tanis fought off the first Memphisian attack, it remains threatened.

Btw, may I suggest that gradually, both the "fast" and the normal turns become shorter (well, like we mods normally shorten them at later times...)? 250 years without much happening makes sense early on, but IMHO *such* long periods of quiet can hardly be observed later on. Hell, in 20th century it might as well be half-a-year "nornaml" turns and decade-long "fast" turns.

NK, could you please make it more clear as to what sort of orders should we sent in the "BT"? I.e. vague, non-stat-based orders like for my BTs, right?

Israel Orders:
1. Expand along Med. and Red coasts and Jordan valley- invade with army, push people out, replace with Israelite colonists, keep people w/ a semi-nomad mindset so that they want to colonize new land
2. Develop trade network
3. Expand religious institiutions including yeshivas
4. Send priests to spread religion
5. Have ships explore around Med. and Red

Sariscan orders:
As Sardinia grows crowded, expand onto Corsica, then the coasts of Gaul, northern Italy, and eastern Iberia. Incorporate peaceful barbarians into our nation. Encourage trade with all advanced people we meet.

Keep a militia in all cities and colonies, and keep a strong navy running. Get a small amount of it to explore, looking for new lands to trade with.

Macedonia Orders:
-Expand throughout Macedonia, Thrace, and Thessaly; incorporated peoples are generally allowed to keep their lands, although tribes that resist too violently are to be displaced, and their land sold by the Kingdom to citizens for farms and aristocrats for estates.
-Enact a policy of primogeniture, whereby only the eldest son can inherit land and real property (wealth may still be distributed amongst sons)
-Strengthen the military by promoting local militias (wherein farmers in a region train together, so they may defend their land against barbarians and foreigners), by establishing a Royal Army which recruits from amongst the middle and upper classes (relatively wealthy farmers, the younger sons of noblemen, etc)
