STR-06: 3CTCC goes Monarch

first off, save is attached here ~ sorry ~

@ ungy ~ yes, a good point re: the great people. i guess what I mean is, if i can't see a plan or obvious use for the GP in the near future, I try to use them asap, rather than sleeping them and waiting for a use to arise. but, we've got plans now, so the point's moot.

I know we need at least one more academy in Corinth so we could settle that, and use one of the GSs for educ. We'll also need Engineering, but thta's why i'm heading for machinery. Engineering IS a tech lots of AIs like, i think, so i like the idea of using the GE for the Dame.

also, i would say let's worry about spreading the religions and building the temples first, and then take it from there re: cathedrals, hermitage, etc.

finally, @ Fox & re: Apostolic ~ i *think* all our cities with the religion get a hammer bonus from their religious bldgs from it, too.

what if another AI gets there sooner? granted we've got a few turns until we'll have Engineering, as I noticed that though I *thought* about going towards Machinery for engineering, i didn't :(

also, what if mansa has it and wants to build the Dame himself, and won't trade? I think that researching it ourselves, we're sure to have it. the whole "bird in the hand is worth two in teh bush" thing.

Well a while ago Mansa was #1 in tech and we were #2. Hard to imagine that someone else could beat us to lib. In the unlikely event that Mansa is beating us to lib we can reevaluate.

Well Mansa seems willing to trade his monopoly techs. Remember we don't need to beat him to engineering since we have the engineer to burn. Getting lib allows us to take Nationalism, which gives us a great shot at the Taj since we have marble.

good points ~ :D

i feel i am the 'weakest' player here (haven't been able to win on monarch yet after BtS, though I do play w/Agg AI on), and am glad to be picking up small pointers and different perspectives on the game ~ thanks, all!

I doubt that. I'd count me even after you. I never won BtS higher than Prince yet, too. The main reason that we can play higher levels is such an SG. Two heads discuss a better solution while one might decide to simply start one more turn. You put a lot more thought in a game when it's not your game alone and you only got a smaller and thus more precious part of the turns.

After all I'm very surprised we're still in the front line of the technology race. I should play a bit more with great persons.
Going for Notre Dame culturally seems most important. But it's extremely expensive compared to all others of the wonders of that age and earlier. At least, I found it to be. Thus keeping the GE for it makes sense.

Go for it, Strauss! :hammer:

Pvblivs caught me again:blush:. I came home later than expected yesterday and it was my sister's birthday, so I was unable to play. Will get to this when I get home from driving lessons in a couple of hours.

*ignoring angeleyes*

IT (1050): We don't have Academies in either Athens or Corinth, so I decide to settle the GS's there. Sid is kept asleep for the Dame.

Turn 4 (1090): Corinth finishes the Hagia Sophia.

I trade DR to Mansa for Construction and Feudalism, and continue with Metal Casting.

Turn 6 (1110): Dante (Great Artist) is writing his Commedia in Sparta.

Turn 10 (1150): The Shwedagon Paya is completed in Athens. Has anyone ever built it in their solo games?

Civ4ScreenShot0098.jpg

Turn 14 (1190): Notre Dame is completed in a far away land........:suicide:

About the Shwedagon Paya: we can now use all religious civics. I forgot to switch during my set since I've never built this Wonder, but I think we should change to Pacifism/Free Religion, with me preferring Pacifism.

Also, weird things are going on in my game: after building the Odeon in Corinth, it shows up in other cities' queues as only giving a Happy bonus, no culture. Same goes for Temples and Monasteries.... Could this be because of updating to 3.13? Has everyone updated for that matter?

Also #2, what do we do with Sid now that we've lost Notre Dame? Use him on Angkor Wat? Though I did speed it up a lot by chopping already. Otherwise I suggest going for the University of Sankore. It gives +8 cpt and +2 beakers for every state religion building (obviously this bonus would be useless if we decide on Free Religion)

man, that really blows about the Dame ~ i think, since you've already chopped a bunch of hammers into Angkor, let's save the GE for Sankore ~ the extra research, too, will be nice for our tiny cities.

also, that culture bug ~ i was reading somewhere (maybe the unofficial BtS patch thread) that some displays weren't showing up. I updated, but haven't noticed the problem. 'course, i haven't been looking for it . . .

Will you watch out this time? ;)
oooo, i'm sure there's a good story to go w/this comment . . .

Seems like Notre Dame preferred to be someone others Dame :)

Not quite sure if I play tomorrow evening. If I will I'll say something tomorrow. If not, next one feel free to step before me.

Meh.... I was drunk last Friday night and fell off my bicycle, and decided to fall face-first on the concrete. Ended up with eight stitches in my chin. All last week people have been coming up to me asking if I was growing a goatee.

I think pacifism makes sense--we've had that available for a while. Just a question of the relative value of hammers vs. GPP.

In general I think we are working way too few GP and we should be working only artists. Especially weak are IMHO the prophets now. We don't need the bonuses too much--the early one was much more useful. We'll also get more scientists than we need. Remember that an artist settled is 14C, more than any wonder. So there is a high cost to non-artists.

Also, weird things are going on in my game: after building the Odeon in Corinth, it shows up in other cities' queues as only giving a Happy bonus, no culture. Same goes for Temples and Monasteries.... Could this be because of updating to 3.13? Has everyone updated for that matter?
I've updated and had a major culture bug in another game. I think we're likely OK here because it's not contested culture but not sure.
Also #2, what do we do with Sid now that we've lost Notre Dame? Use him on Angkor Wat? Though I did speed it up a lot by chopping already.

Definately not Angkor Wat. U of Sankore has possibilities although we won't be able to keep religion too long. Another possibility is the AP. We'll get I believe 2h for each building even if we ditch the religion which is 4hpt in each city and 6 in one. It'll also keep it away from the AI (likely Mansa) which is useful. None of the other possibilities are all that great--we may not get the Statue of Liberty even with the engineer (although that is a great one also to keep from the AI).

By the way, I think we should get back on the lib path.

First thoughts:

I don't quite understand why we had to pollute our only guaranteed Great Artist factory Corinth with Engineers (Hagia Sophia). I don't understand as well why the Apostolic Palace should be an option - except for peace keeping, if we had other followers, but we don't. It generates prophets and 4 cpt. That's not worth the money, is it? I don't see any good wonder except maybe Versailles. For its 10 cpt I'd build it in Corinth but it would pollute the city even more. Maybe Sparta is more fitting. But hey - 10 pt! And what about the Taj Mahal? Those artists would be highly welcome, not to speak about the golden age and the 10 cpt.
If our next Great Person is a Prophet I'll start a Golden Age allowing us to switch civics as we may without revolution. We spoke about Caste System, a lot of more useful to emply artists, and Pacifism.

Ok, let's push the button ...

Turn 1 (1210 AD): Machinery is in. Decide to go for Paper (for the University wonder) first. I'd prefer Nationalism afterwards but maybe the Liberalism part really is safer.

Turn 2 (1220 AD): Athens builds Odeon, ordering an Aqueduct for the health.

str-06015.jpg

Turn 6 (1255 AD): Paper is discovered. Next will be Education. If we win Liberalism we should use it for Nationalism. The Apostolic Palace is BIDL.

str-06016.jpg

Turn 7 (1260 AD): We get to be introduced to the great Scientist Michael Faraday in Sparta and I order him to immediately join in our research efforts of Education. Athens starts the University of Sankoree (that is Athens ;)).

str-06017.jpg

Turn 9 (1270 AD): With help of Sid Meier Athens finishes the University of Sankoree and I immediately order a Confucian Monastery afterwards - for the beakers.

Turn 11 (1280 AD): Athens finishes the Monastery and continues building a Forge.

str-06018.jpg

Turn 12 (1285 AD): Ankor Wat has finished. An Odeon will be next in Sparta

str-06019.jpg

Turn 14 (1295 AD): Education is here. Selecting Liberalism next...

Turn 15 (1300 AD): I employed and shuffled around some artists. Thext GP could come from Corinth and is likely to become a Great Artist. If you would prioritize Athens higher, a GP, most probably a Prophet, could be there in 14 turns.
As I said, a Great Prophet or a Great Merchant would be great for a Golden Age, since the first requires only one Great Person and allows us to switch civics cost-free. Not to forget the Taj Mahal would be easier to build (best in Corinth) within a Golden Age, triggering the next one right after and giving us even 10cpt+ and more Great Artist points.

Important decisions to be made for my successor. Liberalism will be there in about 11 turns. :hammer:
