Subdued Animals in C2C discussions

Vokayra isn't doing the Techtree anymore. So who is going to do all the "rearranging"?

Did i miss something here, WHAT tech tree RE-arranging??

Talking about the possibility of making buildings (started with myths) prereqs for technologies. IE that you can't research camel domestication if you don't have Myth of the Camel OR Herd - Camel etc...

It occurs to me upon reading that we can make a tech have a prereq of a given building, that we could make the alternative timeline techs require the action of a Great Scientist to access them by making them have a building prereq that only a GS can build. Was this something we still wanted to do or did I miss where that idea was vetoed somewhere?

@StrategyOnly

1) Nothing is happening to the tech tree. Yet. Discussion has only just begun and I will be putting up a demo modmod of the concept sometime after I get to that stuff you asked me to do.

2) The idea of having techs require buildings has been around since v16.

3) I finally got round to testing some of the tags in TechInfos that add a building requirement to a tech. It works.

Ok i like modmod's, infact i just sent one to you in a PM, please take a good look at it to make sure i did all the python and stuff correctly, and i have all the files needed, thx.

But what if you had the camel resource in your city vicinity? Those buildings are not unlocked until Camel Domestication. Likewise Camel Domestication also covers Llamas too.

In short not everything depends upon subduing animals. Sometimes map resources within a city vicinity determine things. Not to mention trade for animal resources.

I just think its a bad idea to make Myths as tech requirements.

On a side note I wish Vokayra would come back. :(

That would be an example for the many changes need to be made when implenting this.

Not ONLY Myths. Would it be possible to add OR PreReqs for Techs? I think the camel in city vicinity buildings could as well come at animal husbandry. So again, there are many changes to do IF you choose to fully implent this. But I think it's worth it in the long run.

And if Vokayra would come back, it would be great, indeed...

I hate to disagree with ya Faust but I don't feel that myths are a sufficient prerequisite for unlocking domestications. BUT, I DO agree that domestication techs should have prerequisites of the resources or herd buildings if its possible.

I think that an either/or situation would be fine. Either you have a herd and someone has the idea to domesticate things, or you've heard stories and some enterprising lad goes and domesticates an animal.

Given that the Myth buildings can only be built by capturing an animal and that you are not likely to have more than one city when you want to study some of these techs I feel the Myth or vicinity buildings would be good enough.

Then what would got at Camel Domestication if the buildings were moved? I STRONGLY advise against such changes. For as long as I am on the C2C team those animal techs and related buildings and units will stay the way they are. Otherwise there was no point in having those as separate techs from Animal Husbandry.

I think you are missing the input by DH. The special buildings for Camels (and other animals) stay on the technologies they are at now.

The technology (take camels for instance) would be researchable if the nation had Bonus Camel OR Myth Camel. Both things that are unlocked as it is now before Camel Domestication. Thus the techs themselves would not be changed, only IF you can research it.

Cheers

But they lead to other techs. Even if you do not have subdued camels or camel resources you should still be able to be aware on how other nations have domesticated them. Likewise you should learn how to defend against Camel units.

1) This is not a currently active project nor is it likely to start soon. When it does it will be a proof of concept modmod anyway. Which means it will probably only cover the first parts of the tech tree.

2) The tech tree as it stands was adjusted to make no tech a dead end meaning that currently there are some very strange connections. At one stage salt processing required camel domestication for some reason.

I think it should also cover the modern era. This would make the Physic's Lab etc much more usefull.

And deserts are not the only place that Salt is found (Salzburg). So I do not think that salt processing should require Camels.

Sounds like an OR gate. Camels OR <I have no idea, looking at wikipedia now>? Maybe some sea related tech, for brine evaporation.
