Well played.

Yes. If we were up against a human player, the town would be lost. Since the AI had injured warriors, and by what you reminded me about their behavior, it was a risk worth taking.

W00t!
Awesome work kiech
What are we researching?
What do you think about city spots considering the barb city?

I font think archery is worthwhile, do we have crafting mining at least?

Move c2 1sw so a get the hill bonus. Mining is complete. So your choices are Myst, Hunt, or archers.

I don't think that's necessary, that city is too backline (masked by the barn city) to be attacked.
What about BW/CoL?

Wow. Brilliant play, Kiech. You have set us up in a good position and we have a lot more information now. Here are my thoughts in no particular order...

1. I think our next tech needs to be animal husbandry. First, we know that copper is available but it is pretty far away. We need to know if horses are even available or not, which will tell us how quickly we need to push towards the copper. As a side benefit we have a cow and a pig on the fringes of our empire.

2. Archery can be delayed. We don't need better defense just yet as the Sheaim are not close to PZ (they are last in score) and we have not made contact with the Clan. We also just beat Rhoanna back.

3. Monks are a last-ditch option if both horses and copper are not available. We are not spiritual, and plus horse archers are not much more expensive tech-wise than priesthood (I usually only have enough time to build a stable and 2 horsemen before I get to Stirrups.) Horse archers also cost 120 :hammers:, have 6 str, but have a 1 move advantage over monks and 35% withdrawal, 45% as we are defenders. Plus if we get a Hippus city, we can build horselord+defender horse archers for serious 95% withdrawal abuse (35% base+10% horselord+10% defender + 20% flanking +20% flanking II).

4. The barb city changes the game for us, especially regarding the placement of c2. If we can capture the barb city we can afford to place c2 for maximum economic benefit, as the barb city can serve as our forward staging ground. Ironically the barb city is on Kiech's original 8 Flood/Oasis site and has 2 deserts north of it that can serve as a killing field for advancing Sheaim or Hippus stacks. c2 doesn't need to have a killing field, nor does it need to be on a hill for defensive purposes. I think we can consider placing c2 a little farther west, maybe on the plains 3W of our current c2 site.

5. Capturing the barb city before Rhoanna does should be our next priority. It is a little far from the empire but it can be net positive quickly with floodplains and gold. It also gives us the luxury of backfilling c2 a little later. In my view, we should spare our 4 weakest warriors (2 per city) to defend and send all of the remaining warriors to the gold hill 1SE of the barb city. Take a look at what's defending and pick promotions accordingly. Our warriors should have a lot of unspent xp after Kiech's slaughter of Rhoanna's forces. Moreover the barb city is on desert so it should be easy to take with 7 warriors (11 total; 4 defending.)

6. Commerce buildings--I would not waste any hammers on buildings right now. I would focus purely on building warriors, workers and settlers to fill up our terrain. We need a strong economy to power us to poisons and priesthood for Destroy Undead casters to deal with Sheaim's inevitable PZ stack. In order to go on the offense against Rhoanna or Clan, we need collateral in the form of cats, mages or horse archers. We need good production or tech pace for all of those.

I agree with akatoshs thoughts.
Do cities automatically spawn with archers?
If so I doubt we can get it.

I forgot to see what promotions the warriors have. We probably want to save some of them for shock, but we might be able to afford to give cover to 2 of them. Perhaps we can rearrange our warriors thus:

1. Leave a shock 1 or combat 2 warrior in the capital. With hill bonus, culture bonus, warrior defense bonus, fortify bonus, and defender trait bonus, he should be able to keep the capital safe. Plus, the capital can continue to finish its current warrior, then switch to a second worker. Leave our next two best melee warriors in the second city.

2. Our attack stack should have 2 cover 1 warriors and then as many of our low xp, crappy warriors as we can muster. It's ok to wait another 2-3 turns to have a big enough stack to take the city. Throw away all our garbage warriors in a mad charge on the city and when the archers are weak, send in the 2 cover warriors to finish the job. The new cities are going to build warriors anyway while the grow, while the capital churns out workers and settlers.

We can send a single scout to the gold hill to see how strong the defense is, and have the rest of our units rally inside our borders as close to the barb city as possible.

PS - watch out for that lion.

I left most of the promotions un-picked. I think some of the warriors have 2 promotions open.

AI probaly won't attack....

civ4screenshot0000n.jpg

small amount of culture for capital city is useless, so I opted for inflation reduction.
civ4screenshot0001et.jpg

animal husbandry did not pay off...no horses....at least AI can't take my cities but I have no means vs AI too....

civ4screenshot0002qy.jpg

Rohanna horses show up...

researchng festivals...done, must build markets, so far only warrior spamming is our viable option...

what next?

civ4screenshot0004lj.jpg

go for the metal line - crafting, mining, bronze working or religon: mystitsism - for Rok we must research crafting and mining anyway...maybe OO? and with sarevous to wipe out rohanna stacks ?No...OO switches alignement to neutral...against of home rules ( good alignement)- or not ?

Rohanna used her world spell, horsemen and some warriors have war cry promo

scutarii, did you just play teh same turns Kiech played?

scutarii, did you just play teh same turns Kiech played?

yeah :blush::blush::blush::blush:

ok, next try...

switched from archery to bronze working. "civilized" orcs won't stay quiet forever, we need axemen anyway. Buiding scout at the capital - must see barb city before war plans

civ4screenshot0005it.jpg

money !

civ4screenshot0006l.jpg

2nd worker coming (7 turns at the capital, probably 1-2 turn less due to fresh mine) - we must connect soon-to -be-civilized barb city quickly, also improvements at the desert take more time ...

IMO there is no reason to build warriors anymore ( 1 for the 2nd city now - just for defence) - cover promoted warriors go for "civilizising mission" anyway.

we must wait for pop 2 from barb city or we raze this city automatically ( all pop 1 cities are razed automatically)
civ4screenshot0007n.jpg

5 cover promoted warriors are more than enough - 67% chance now. at worst 2 warriors are sacrified, I guess...

now we have a problem... as you see at the right - roahanna is coming with 2 horsemen and 1 warrior - at worst rohanna simply razes this barb city - when she has a chance...we must go and wait for pop 2 and pray - rohanna won't attack barb city before...

civ4screenshot0008i.jpg

Roahanna did not waste much time...

civ4screenshot0009q.jpg

now we need a settler right? this place is for settling very good but still longshot - too far away and for copper we need culture from somewhere....

civ4screenshot0010.jpg

building settler, palisade at 2nd city is mostly for killing time...til bronze working and training yards.

we probably must settle at the former barb city ruins - before rohanna occupies this place.

civ4screenshot0011w.jpg

griffon lynched our scout...

no money..no engineer...only supplies... oh well...

civ4screenshot0012f.jpg

That's it.. we must expand...

civ4screenshot0015h.jpg

damn, some screenshots gone...long story short: Rohanna razed barb city and we therefore must build a settler...

that is a bug: with supplies I can build training yard ONLY with palisade at the building queue....

civ4screenshot0000r.jpg

hooray! roahanna....and not against of us !

civ4screenshot0001v.jpg

skellys killed... mystitsism...reduced science.... we need money for the upgrades...or not...you decide...its better to upgrade 2-3 warriors to axemen...
