Succession Game France

I'm still here, kinda of.

Executive decision. This weekend I am going to pull down the last save, play 20 turns and post. Hopefully someone will pick up the ball.

Upon assuming power of the French Empire, Hobbes notices a few things that are in direct contradiction to the despots handbook (hopefully these hints help).:enlighten:

Grassland irrigated while we are in despotism: This does not help us at all, as it will not produce any more food until we switch governments, mine instead.

Building mines on mountains tiles, or multiple mountain tiles mined in one city radius: Too early in the game to work mines tiles, we need food in order to crack the whip.

Too many regular military units: We need barracks to produce veteran units, and a barracks only costs one citizen.

Archers sent out without any defensive support: Always send defensive units out with archers, otherwise they get killed by the counterattack.:(

No harbors: Until our road network is finished, we need at least one harbor if we hope to trade with other civs.

Researching Republic: We can’t afford to give up the ability to rush build units, we need other civ advances.:vomit:

Reminds me of an old joke “Well other than that Mrs. Lincoln how was the play?”

Well here is a brief description of what happened during my twenty or so turns.

Upon taking power I notice that we are at war with multiple countries and our military is not doing well. All troops are recalled home, and barracks are rushed in all cites that do not have them. We are too weak to fight a offensive war, so all resources are directed towards two goals: Produce defensive units and find iron, without iron our civ will perish. During this time I contact every civ that we are at war with and attempt to make peace. The money machine is cranked up in order to bribe our way out of this situation. This ends up working with the Greeks (160, 10/turn) but the other civs want a city, no way. Other civs noticing our weakness, pounce on our carcass. During this period a city is built on the far end of our continent and a galley is rushed. This galley explores the island to our South-East, and we find iron. A settler is rushed to this island, and harbors are built ASAP.

Well this is how I leave the French Empire, we now have iron to build swordsmen,:goodjob: so rush build swordsmen. We are at peace with the Greeks but the other civs are trying to kill us off. They have to attack us from the North, so build walls on our border cities. Also the island we have settled should be ours put some settlers on it, along with a strong military (we have to keep that iron). There is another island directly to our South, we should try to settle that also. Don’t trade maps unless you have to, or the other civs will rush to take those islands. Make peace if you can by buying, but don’t give up cities, unless you have to. And most important of all, crack that whip, we need swordsmen and they only cost one citizen. Good luck.

I will join this game! To speed this up I will download and post results in a few hours.... ;)

Here are my twenty turns---

King Cdub is shocked at the state his beloved France has fell into.... a world that is against him, a pitiful army, and no advanced tech's to speak of :( . Cdub pulls his sword from the case and stabs it into the earth "This will not be tolerated!"

70 BC- Signed peace treaty with Germany, territory map, and mathematics for 39 gold and our world map. Russia wanted peace for a steep price 106 gold 1/ turn, King Cdub rebuffed the offer. Cracked the whip in Orleans for settler, changed Paris to settler.

50 BC- The wicked Greeks built Troy south of Paris. Cracked the whip in Tours for settler. Bescanon ordered to produce another galley.

30 BC- Yes King Cdub's subjects of France began to squint every time he appeared for the time of crackin' the 'ole whip had definitely begun. Cracked the whip in Lyons for swordsman, Rhiems creates a swordman, and Paris creates Settlers for the eastern island.

10 BC- Lyons creates swordsman. Barracks are constructed in Avigron, a worker is ordered to be constructed to link up some cities with roads.

10 AD- Tours is ordered to create a swordsman, Rhiems cracks the whip on a settler, and a galley is unloaded north of Rouen (eastern island) which contains a settler and spearman.

30 AD- Tours constructs swordsman, King Cdub realizes there needs to be some culture and orders a temple to be constructed. The King takes out the trusty 'ole whip and cracks Lyons for a swordsman.

50 AD- Paris, Lyons produce a swordsman they are both ordered to produce two more. The great king consults his military council and finds out he is at the helm of the world's weakest army :( .

70 AD- Grenoble is founded south of Orleans on the southern tip of our continent. Dijon is founded north of Rouen (on the eastern island) and his fortified with spearman. Rouen completes a worker.

90 AD- Rouen's worker is set out to build a road connecting it with Dijon. The worthless Greek's build Marathon north of Tours.

110 AD- Cracked the whip on Lyons for a swordsman, we now have a whopping total of 10 swordsman  . Orleans creates a swordsman and is ordered to make another. The Great King is sending 2 swordsman to the eastern island, and the rest to help defend the northern frontiers.

130 AD- A worker is connecting more French fine wines to Tours. Our galley has unloaded a settler south of Rouen. A new settler is creating in Rhiems. A worker is created in Avigon to help construct new roads. We gain peace with Greece and get construction in exchange for 90 gold and our world map :) .

150 AD- Amiens is built south of Rouen on our eastern island. Two swordsmen are set to land there next turn. The dirty Egyptians have attacked us just north of Chartes we completely wipe them out with no loss of life on our side. Avignon has been connected to the rest of the civilization with a road, they are now instructed to build a swordsman.

170 AD- Egypt offers peace for 44 gold 4/ turn, the Great King thought it over and decided the 4/ turn would greatly hinder our science purhcasing abilities. Orleans creates a swordsman. Our glorious armies pounce on an invading Egyptian chariot and destroy it, we then enslave the two workers that were captured! Are armies then turn are attention to 3 invading Roman warriors and quickly dispose of them.

190 AD- Signed a peace treaty with the Romans and got currency and polytheism from them for 20 gold, wines, and gems!

210 AD- And just 20 years later Caesar tries to give us a bum deal on his territory map (our territory map + 50 gold for his!) HA! We quickle shew him away.

230 AD- We destroy more Egyptians near Chartes with no loss to our armies.

250 AD- Rouen completes a worker, we need some culture over there so I ordered a Temple.

260 AD- Paris creates a swordman, the King cracks the whip on Orleans for another swordsman ( The King wants to send these to the Eastern island, hint, hint.) Our galley circumnavigates the small southern island and finds it has nothing to offer.

270 AD- The King is so bored this turn he pees in the wind to find out what really happens, and then he decides to pet a burning dog, errrr.......

280 AD- Okay back to the action at hand. The great King gets monarchy off the English for our world map and 100 gold. Then Cdub decides to take out the whip for his last turn as king. He ruthlessly cracks the whip on Tours for a temple, on Orleans for a swordsman, and on Chartes for a Temple. Yes its good to be king :p .

There you have it, 20 turns. I believe this game is going to be very challenging to get through, but if we stick to it we might just pull out of this. I have got our swordsmen total up to 17, along with the archers and spearmen that were already there when I began my turn. I have positioned our troops into four clusters along four Greek border cities, one to the northeast even has a settler with it so you can raize and build a city if you wish to. The Greeks seem fairly weak to the south of us, they should easily be disposed of.

I built 4 new cities, 13 swordsmen, and gained 5 techs through trading, polytheism, monarchy, currency, construction, and mathematics. :goodjob:

Good Luck to who's next!!!

I'll jump in and try to right the ship. we have a big army and if the oppurtunity presents itself I won't hesitate to use it.

I just finished my turns and I will write the review now. If anyone wants to jump in after me, the save is attached.

My first 20 turns as the Emperor of France were moderately successful, we gained a few technologies (engineering, monotheism, and feudalism), we gained a few cities and we have gnawed the Greeks down to about our size. Whoever takes over for me, will need to focus on building another attack force to take out the Greeks, we already have 9 swordsmen in Chartres but we will need more than that to finish off the Greeks. The English and Germans are also fighting the Greeks, so if you wait a few turns for the Greeks to divert their attention to the northern front, then we could make significant gains; possibly even claiming Athens for ourselves. Good luck for the next emperor and here are the “minutes” for my 20-turn reign:

280 AD: Emperor Thiazi I take over a nation set on exterminating the Greeks. In order to put our full attention on the war efforts, we make peace with Russia at the cost of 45 gold and 1 gold per turn. We also make peace with Egypt for no cost. We will need money to finance the war effort so, we sell wines and gems to England for 8 gold per turn and 7 gold per turn respectively.

290 AD: Our troops are being positioned for war. We capture two Greek workers, forcing Greece into war.

300 AD: Marseilles captured and razed; this city was of size 3 but it was a prime target to be recaptured. The cites of Marathon and Troy are also captured; none of our soldiers have been lost.

310 AD: We attempt to take the Greek city of Eretria but we are met with a massive counter attack and our remaining forces are taken out by a solitary legion of hoplites.

320 AD: Herakleia captured!

330 AD: Herakaleia recaptured. Halicarnassus razed.

340 AD: The Russians have completed the Great Lighthouse in Odessa.

350 AD: War.

360 AD: We establish an embassy with the English at the cost of 85 gold. We offer England our world map, 19 gold per turn and 163 gold to join us in the fight against the Greeks, they accept without any hesitation. England brokers a deal with Germany and German declares war on Greece. Our people have added a third level to our palace.

370 AD – 380 AD: War.

390 AD: Russia completes the Hanging Gardens of Moscow.

400 AD: Catherine the Great gives us the option of supplying them with wines or war; we choose wines. We then trade Russia gems for 8 gold per turn.

410 – 430 AD: War.

440 AD: Our troops are marching on towards Marseilles and the Greeks finally agree to broker a peace treaty. In exchange for us stopping our troop movements they offer us Feudalism, Monotheism, 79 gold and 2 gold per turn. We accept peace for now but production of our war machine continues unabated. We trade gems to the Romans for 6 gold per turn. We offer our world map to the English as a sign of good will, we jumped out of the war early and we do not need Elizabeth to be furious with us.

450 AD: Germany and Russia have declared war on Egypt. Our soldiers to the west have destroyed a barbarian encampment, brining back 25 gold to the empire. We then purchase Engineering from the Romans at the cost of our world map and 280 gold.

460 AD: We sell Engineering to the Germans for their territory map, world map, 60 gold and 3 gold per turn.

470 AD: The Emperor Thiazi I resigns after nearly a 200-year reign. He feels that he has done his small part to make France the great empire it is destined to be but he regrets not finishing off the Greeks and not switching to a better form of government.

470- When the next Emperor Atros (my real account) takes power, the French empire had grown in power, but not without costs to the people, many were unhappy with the despotic rule and the conscription and people who lost their lives to fuel the French war machine.
Hurried in Lyons as the city wasn't growing

480- The city of Orleans was overcrowded and the people were unhappy, so I hurried a swordsman to reduce the population by 2 people who were basically entertainers. :)
I hurried Tours as it wasn't growing too

490- hurried temples in Rouen and Amiens to save about 30 turns each, Russia approached me for a peace treaty for nothing and i agreed.

500- traded world map and 300 gold to England for Theology. Hurried swordsman in Tours at cost of 1 citizen.

510- Orleans rioting again.

520- Told Greek settlers to get out of my territory, they moved to out near Grenoble, probably trying to settle that area. Hurried in Orleans to reduce population. Also hurried at Paris and drop one citizen.

530- Hurried at Orleans again. Moving units to border in prepartation for an attack on the greeks.

540- Still moving units

550- Told greeks to get units out of our territory, they declared war.

560- WAR. Captured Herakleia.

570- Attacked a city which they settled in the southern peninsula, it was 1 citizen so it was destroyed.

580- Captured Eretria. Romans extort wine from us

590- WAR

600- Eretria defected back to Greeks, was then recaptured.

610- Continued Rioting at Eretria

620- WAR

630- WAR

640- Captured Sparta

650- WAR

660- Sparta had many resisters and defected back to greeks. Hurried stuff in multiple cities.

670- The end of my reign, Emperor Atros captured two cities from the greeks and razed one, but only at the waste of many soldiers by pouring them onto the walls of the heavily defended Greek cities.

PS: Remember to get back Sparta, it defected so prob only has 1 or 2 defenders. Also buy invention as we do not have it and are researching chivalry.

chainsawkiller we need the attachment, Garsonga--- feel free to play the next turn when it becomes available...

At the death of King Atros, King Garson the confused comes to power. The follow are the sequence of events:

670 AD Review of the Kingdom reveals trouble ahead, the city of Erieta next to Athens is sorely under defended the whip is cracked and a Spearmen built.

680 Russia has declared war on us, not too worried they are well north of us, a passing Russia spearman escorting a settler is destroyed yielding two Russia worker anxious to work for the French. Sparta is retaken.

690 AD Moving troops toward Delphi.

700 AD War continues

710 AD Sparta Flips again! I'm thinking raze next time! Delphi taken! 8 resistors, probably should raze that one too but I'll hold off.

720 AD Moving swordsman to retake Sparta.

730-750 AD Sparta is retaken and RAZED!!!:nuke:Cutting all roads to Athens, we may be able to keep Delphi if we can take out Pharsalos.

760 AD Moving swordsman towards Pharsalos, King Garson poisoned by outraged Spartians. Short but war torn reign is ended probably won't even get a blip in the history books.

I only took 10 turns, they are long with all the troop movements and a gazillion automated workers. Plus I wanted to get a consensus before continuing.

Do we want to continue this war? We are in desperate need of better forces 3.2.1 Swordsman vs 1.3.1 Hoplites is not really a good thing. We need some mounted forces or artillary. I recommend peace until we can build Knights, thoughts?

Good luck to the next ruler!

The honorable King Cdub looks over his French Empire and pulls out, not a sword, but a shovel....

Inherited Turn
760 AD- Cdub brokers deals with nations around the globe- We get Invention and Education off England for our world map and 950 gold. We get Invention off Rome for Education and 230 gold. We exchange our fine wines and gems to Egypt in return for there ivory and 3 gold/turn. Strike a deal with the Germans out Gems and wines for 10 gold/turn. The city of Herraklia is changed to a temple.

770 AD- The Great King decides to starve Delphi out and spawn French people in the city. 4 cities have there production changed to granaries. The palace is expanded, the Great King celebrated by dancing butt naked to "Macarena" .

780 AD- Granary is produced in Paris, a worker is ordered. A peace treaty is agreed to with the Russians, we shell out 60 gold for it. We in in turn sell them our gems for 5 gold/turn, so we are actually making 40 gold off them ;) .

790 AD- Cdub learns from his military council that Russia and England have signed a military alliance against the Greeks, too bad for them. Walls in Eretria are changed to a temple.

800 AD- Greeks offer peace treaty, the Great King makes them give the French people Astronomy and 1 gold/turn before they will sign. France falls into Anarchy! Monarchy will soon come though.

810 AD- Greeks settle Sparts on the southern tip of the mainland.

820 AD- The Great Kings "Period of Infrastructure" is in full swing, stacks of workers across the land are furiously building improvements.

830 AD- The greedy English extort our territory map and 37 gold  . King Cdub is now a true king, monarchy is set in place. Science is boosted to 70%, and luxories are set to 10%.

840 AD- Two workers and a pikeman are completed, more workers are ordered.

850 AD- More workers are constructed across the land, temples and more workers are ordered to be constructed.

860 AD- Two granaries and a worker are completed. Barracks and another worker are ordered to be start construction.

870 AD- Paris completes a worker, a marketplace is ordered.

880 AD- Germany and England sign a military alliance against the Greeks, too bad for them, again :) . More granaries are ordered to be constructed across the land. King Cdub is infromed by his scientists that Chivalry has been researched, Chemistry is the next item on the list.

890 AD- Granary is constructed in Rouen, barracks are ordered. Pikeman in Marathon changed to temple.

900 AD- Infrastructure is being improved slowly but surely, the great King knows this will be the key to victory in the future!

910 AD- Lyons builds a temple, granary is ordered. The courthouse in Amiens is constructed, a granary is ordered.

920 AD- We ship our wines to the Romans for 15 gold/turn. We exchange our territory map with the Germans. Tours builds granay a worker is ordered.

930 AD- Troy and Grenoble build barracks, workers are ordered. Our workers have constructed a road to connect our cities with saltpeter :goodjob: .

940 AD- Russia extorts Territory Map and 30 gold  . Paris build marketplace, a cathedral is ordered. Worker in Tours complete, a marketplace is ordered. Temple in Besancon is complete, granary ordered.

950 AD- Rouen creates barracks, a library is ordered. Troy and Grenoble complete workers both are instructed to produce workers.

960 AD- A deal is struck with the pathetic Greeks, we give them our gems for 5 gold/turn.

Well there is my 20 turns. Infrastructure, Infrastructure, Infrastructure was the game plan. I found that many of our acient cities had yet to build a temple  . I produced many temples and granaries in my reign, with more soon to be complete. I also unautomated the work force! I HATE AUTOMATED WORKERS!!! I stacked the workers and put them to work on some much needed roads, irrigation, and mining. To the next leader--- may I suggest we keep up with the infrastructure, this may keep us down for awhile, but the future output will help us immensley!!! We are not at war with any nations, and none seem to be bothering us at the moment, either. Good Luck :king: !

I am glad to see somebody who hates them as much as me. The ones that really annoy me - They tend to create cities with WAY to much food.

Plus during Railroad time, I set very specific rail building patterns.

No to mention mining 5 mountains with a size 3 (maxed out city).

Way to go Cdub, that's what I wanted to do. Shutdown the automated workers, they are a pain. Build Temples and Libraries get some tech and then kick some a$$. When it takes 32 turns for a tech with 70% in research you know there's problems. I still think we can turn this game around. :goodjob: :goodjob:

Two thumbs up for Cdub
