Sucession game #2 - tales of the Greeks

The Greeks elect Lord of Hammers to rule their country

- The Germans offer to give us rubber for 40 years(20 turns) in return for gems. The rubber deal allowed us tu upgrade our riflemen to infantry.

-Dateline- Athens- 1924- The Aztec leader, Montezuma, sent an envoy to demand we give them the secret of espionage. Oir people said no, and the Aztecs declared war! The Germans, our best buddies, were also at war with them, so we signed a Military Alliance against the Aztecs.

- Not much more happened, but we are going to lose a backwater city somewhere deep in Aztec Territory. Don't worry, it sucks.

- Upgrade the remaining infantry

- Put our cavalry in galleons and shipem off to Aztec lands. There is a lot of cavalry in Cumae, but there is more elsewhere.

-Exploit our huge navy! It is big, and we should use it in our favor

Wo whomever start the Aztec invasion, I think we should conquer Tapexpan first (and defend our island), then Zimbabwe, and finally Zulundi. When invading the Aztec continent, we'll need a huge defensive group. An army of infantries would be great, but that doesn't seem to be possible. :(. It's a pity that we didn't plant a spy in the Aztec civ. Now we can't see how huge their army is. :(

Up next - Nanook , our military genius.:)

Ohwell, I am glad you like the navy. I spent a lot of my 20 years on building transport ships, what I felt was our biggest weakness.

Any damage we can do to the Aztecs will be a plus, as they are our biggest competition. The question is will even more countries join the party?

1924: A little set up before the war kicks into high gear. A couple of deals for luxuries to keep war weariness to a bare minimum. lkendter wondered who else would join in against the Aztecs? After a few well placed bribes, everyone did :rocket2:
The Aztecs took Artesium and razed it. *shrug* No big loss that.

1926: Nothing special. Infrastructure and moving the Navy into position.

1928: More of the same.

1930: Moved a decent force next to Tepexpan. Commenced bombardment. Its only a size one city, so it will likely be auto-razed(stupid patch "feature").

1932: I was wrong(not that I mind in this case). Tepexpan was NOT razed automatically. It is now ours. I'm moving workers into the area to build some roads and connect the city/oil to the rest of the empire.

1934: War weariness is starting to become a factor. Will have to move quickly to secure Ulundi and the source of rubber. Dropped 4 Cavalry next to it, with a couple more to be dropped in next turn. Should be enough.

1936: Ugh. The initial force of Cavalry got counterattacked and wiped out before they could even move. No matter, another stack of units has been dropped off and there is a stack of ironclads off the coast providing bombardment support.

1938: Again our landing party was repulsed before they could move. More units dropped off, including infantry this time. Some cities switched from wealth to units, and additional reserves called up. This could be ugly. I refuse to give up until we have the city however. A source of rubber not dependant on the good will of other nations is vital.

1940: I'm starting to get a little ticked off. Ulundi WILL fall!

1942: More disorder. Ulundi has to fall soon. More unit shuffling.

1944: Blah blah.

1946, 1948: See above.

1950: Not looking good. May be forced to temporarily make peace, failing to meet one of our two objectives. Reupped the deal with the germans for Rubber and Silks.

1951: Next turn we get tanks, pretty much our last hope for taking Ulundi by force. If they fail I'll attempt to get it diplomatically. Doubt that will happen however.

1952: Switched production to tanks. Several of our allies made peace with the Aztecs. Not good.

1953: Rushed a couple tanks into being. Loaded them up for a last ditch attempt to take Ulundi. Lets hope.

1954: Next turn the armada lands.

1955: The army lands.

1956: Failure. Not only was our army wiped out, but the Aztecs refuse to discuss peace. This is really not good. On the sorta, almost, maybe bright side. Ibbabango reverted back to us.

1957: They finally offered peace. Got squat out of it. But this does allow us time to upgrade our Navy(which I've already begun with a couple battleships and transports being built) and build more tanks.

Nice! At least we are at peace, but we didn't affect the Aztecs. I suggest we attack them in the future, but we will have to have a huge tank army with infantry escorts. If we get them, our histograph will put in our favor. The Aztecs are too good to let pass by.

Up next - donsig

Well, we at least get oil :)

The challenge, < 100 turns left. How are we planing to win?

I think donsig has to set our path up. Do we rush to Rocketry? We still have a tech lead over everyone, which may give us a space win.

Culture is out, our rating is to close to the Aztecs.

To late for military / conquest.

Should we roll the dice with Diplomatic?

1958: Donsigopoulis elected by the people to lead Greece. Smarting from the recent rebuff at the hands of the Aztecs the Greek governement government continues upgrading the navy while turning more attention to the domestic crisis looming due to the increased use of factories.

1959: The importation of American spices (for 57 gold/turn) is in jeopardy. Donsigopoulis sends technical advisors to show the Americans how to mass produce the spices. In return Greece gets the spices and 75 gold/turn.

1960: Greeks scientists succeed in getting the first heavier than air vehicle off the ground. There is talk about going to the moon.

1961: The GIA (Greek Intelligence Agency) tries planting a spy in the Aztec capital. The unsuccessful attempt leads to war between Greece and the Aztecs once more. No more wines or dyes imported from Aztecland. This causes rioting in all major Greek cities. Donsigopoulis makes a deal with Elizabeth of England whereby Greek scientics teach English scientists about atoms and such and in return Greek saltpeter is exchanged for fine English furs. This is not enough to stop the civil unrest and the science budget is reduced in favor of more luxuries.

1962: The Greek navy begins bombarding Aztec lands. Donsigopoulis vows to give the Aztecs the war they asked for and is re-elected to another 5 yeard term.

1963: Aztecs and Iroquois make peace. For 2 gold/turn the Greeks arrange for a mutual protection pact with America. Civil disorder in Greek cities finally ended.

1964: The Aztecs and English make peace. Greece stands alone against the dark green menace.

1966: Small Aztec invasion force sunk at sea. The GEF (Greek Expeditionary Force) of 12 infantry, 6 tank and 3 artillery divisions leave Greece.

1967: America declares war on the Aztecs as the naval battle heats up and the GEF lands near Ulundi. Donsigopoulis elected for third consecutive term.

1968: More rioting in Greek cities due to bombardment by the Aztec navy. The GEF attacked and loses one infantry and one tank division on the Aztec beaches. The GIA infiltrates the Aztec capital and discovers that Ulundi is garrisoned by 2 rifle divisions and 4 recuperating cavalry divisions. With this information in hand the GEF captures Ulundi while losing only one tank division.

1969: Rioting in Tepexpan. The ethnic Aztec object to Tepexpan being the base for bombing raids to the south of Aztecland. Silk and rubber trade agreements expire. The Greek government goes to great expense to build a harbor in Ulundi to make the importation of Rubber unneccesary. Donsigopoulis strikes a deal with Bismark. Greek scientists teach the Germans how to build aircraft in return for German silks, 100 gold/turn and an alliance against the Aztecs. Germany promptly declares war on the Aztecs.:) Not all Greek scientists are busy teaching Greek secrets to other nations: radio has been perfected and research begun into the secrets of the atomic nucleus.

1970: GEF loses a tank and infantry division to hordes of Aztec cavalry. The GEF destroys two cavalry divisions in return. The GEF receives replacement forces as the roads and railroads north of Ulundi are cut. Donsigopoulis does not even think about peace since there is more rubber to the north of Ulundi as well as wines and aluminum to the south.

1971: Large cavalry force heads for Ulundi. They are slowed by lack of roads and their refusal to attack fortified Greek infantry. They attempt to manuever so as to reach Ulundi from the south.

1972: Iron City built on an island with both iron and coal resources. Position around Ulundi fortified and reinforced as GEF regains strength and counter-attacks Aztec cavalry. Donsigopoulis declines another 5 year term saying, "The war is not over but has entered a new stage and a new leader is needed to guide Greece."

My round was terrific fun!:) :)

I secured the Aztec rubber but our the war has narrowed our tech lead. I had to trade some techs to keep our happiness and financial position from going all to heck plus I had to reduce our research rate. We did enter the modern age and got rocketry. Forgot to note that in my (long) update. We have aluminum near Rome and another source in the south being hooked up. The Aztecs have two aluminum (and more rubber and some wines) so I think we should continue the war against them. I think we should try to get the lower half of their empire. There's a little double land bridge connecting the north and south halfs of their country. It would make a nice little border between us and them...

We have the lead over the Aztecs in the histograph. I think we have that win locked up. We'd need over 40,000 culture points for that type of win so that's out. We should be able to build the UN. I'm not sure about a space ship.

Nice fort complexes! Though it seems Ulundi will be culturally assimilated soon if you don't use those infantry to attack the Aztecs. Nice work! Currently using marines and modern armor against French coastal cities in my monarch game:)

After building the army and taking Ulundi I got a bad case of McClellanitus. Didn't want to risk losing anymore of the army! I also left most of the army outside the city just in case it flips back to the Aztecs. The attack must be pressed but I leave that up to pggar. I had great success tearing up the Aztec roads and railroads to slow down the cavalry. It would be nice to have part of our navy on the other side of the continent to bombard the west coast rail network.

up next - pggar

Well I seem to remember you saying you like war. Well you got your wish.

In the year of 1973 the greek people elected Pggarnikos as their new president. Greece was about to extend its borders advancing into the Aztec continent.

1973 - Some ironclads are shifted from their current position to protect Liverpool's coast. The Aztec city of Chiconautla is destroyed (1 slave). Aztec cavalries reinforcements come from south, and our artilleries make some good damage on them.
1974 - Sources of coal and aluminum expired. One source of aluminum reappeared in our borders.
1975 - Coyotepec is destroyed.
1976 - Captured Zimbabwe and Leo's workshop.
1977 - For the first time in ages Greece is polution free.
1978 - Captured Bapeti and Isandhlwana. The war has come to an end. Itombe was given to us. Germans are mad with this. I give them wmap and 69 gold to pass them from annoyed to polite. I hope our mutual protection pact with the Americans (end in 4 turns) don't bring us back to war. Micromanaged every city to put empire in optimal position. Finished upgrading all riflemen.
1979 - Aztec and Americans signed a peace treaty. Aztecs declare war on Greece after disastrous diplomatic mission tried to make Aztec units get out of Greece's territory.
1981 - America declare wars on Aztecs. 13 Aztec cavalries are sent to get Isandhlwana. Only 3 survive our couter offensive.
1982 - 8 Aztec cavalries destroyed.
1984 - We lost our souce of furs and for the first time in my Civ3 playing time my people has overthrowed my democracy descending into anarchy!!! Ngome was captured.
1985 - New Koninsberg (Aztec) and Zitlaltepec are destroyed.
1986 - The Germans are grabbing the south area of the Aztec continent.
1988 - The Aztecs don't wanna talk.
1990 - We're now a monarchy.
1991 - Tlacopan destroyed. Aztecs don't talk.
1992 - Fission is discovered. Lord Hammer starts to build the United Nations. Aztecs still mute.

I guess this is my last turn. Diplomatic victory and histograph seem to be our only way out of this game. Good luck to whomever comes next.

Here's where we stand. Ngome is the city which is closest to the Aztec border. Should this war be finished or should we crush the Aztecs once and for all? :rocket:

The Un will be finished in 15 turne (i think). A diplomatic election will be held either against the Aztecs (sure win) or the Germans (not so sure). So, whoever plays next, start the sucking up to all other civs period (that comes before UN elections). :D

I may get to end my game ;)

Finally arrived, and new laptap Modem is working. Tomorrow I find out if Civ will work, and download the patch.

Sucking up pays. Give aways luxuries, techs, maps for nothing. It gives us ...

A WIN!
