Sucession game - LK4.

I am downloading the patch as we speak. I suggest all succesion game players get the patch BEFORE moving, so that we are all on the same version.

GO fsume93

Let's get this game moving again.

fsume93, ummmm.... IT'S PAST Tuesday night! Come on players. Just concentrate and take your turns... Let's get this game moving. It's a good game and at least somewhat challenging. I want to get back to destroying the Aztecs! Please?

I will start my turn.

This drop puts us down to 4 players. Accepting a new player. Post here if interested

There is massive confusion in the capital. We need a leader. Egypt is frozen in time. Then after awhile, HotLee appears an melts away the freeze.

Science reduced to 30% Treasury to low to bleed large amounts of cash.

700 AD - We lose a galley in bad waters. Switch to the patch may have hurt us :(
I establish our first embassy with Aztecs. Still a lot to build. We find an empty village.

Not much in trading. I sell territory map for $2, $40, $2, $19 + $2/t, $4, $9. Every dollar helps. We have enough cash to establish and embassy with the English.

710 AD - It cost use shields, but Alexandria switches to galley. Keeping 4 swordsman on the island north of Greece is a waste of troops. Sun Tzu is on its way. Researching Theology, and Jungebes switches to Palace to queue up production. Got about another $5 for territory map. We just have nothing to trade. I don't want to start a per turn agreement with the Aztecs.

720 AD - Memphis begins the first Pikeman.

740 AD - We get enough money and establish an Embassy with America. Another round of territory map selling for cash. The world is poor, and I would prefer WE have the money. The Iroquis begin Sun Tzu. I think we have enough of a jump.

750 AD - Sorry guys, but I found a couple of governors turned on. Turned OFF now. Found another tribe - Angry warriors.

760 AD - Germany joins the Sun Tzu party. Embassy with Germany. Germany complete Sun Tzu in 36 turns, no competition here.

770 AD - 2 swordsman rescued from the northern island. Heading toward the Aztec border.

790 AD - I found the last embassy with the Iroquoius.

800 AD - The big project completes. Forbidden palace in Rome. We can enough cash from it to jump from 30% to 40% science and still maintain a profit.

830 AD - America joins the Sun Tzu party.

860 AD - War, what is good for? Absolutely everything :flamedevi:

870 AD - Malinalco falls. We capture 2 workers. I was right, he was about to add another city to OUR island. That is why I stared the war. Tzinzunzen is stubborn, and kills 2 swordsman :(

880 AD - We take Atzcapotzalco, plus kill 3 units outside of the city, at the cost of 1 swordsman.

890 AD - The war crybabies are already at it. Enterainment upped to 30%.

900 AD - I capture Tlateloclo.

Summary -
I completed my goals - embassies with the world, no regular spearman (disbanded), and the great irrigation project to Tlacopan.

Goals -
Don't trade communications with the Greeks or Aztecs. Don't trade world map. If Egypt can get control of the entire continent, this game is won.

Keep the irrigation going south. We can reach all of "our" cities on the south end of the continent.

Tzintzuntzen should fall soon. Swordsman #3 on galley, and #4 is healing.

The War Wariness is taking a large toll, but the Aztecs won't talk to us after losing 3 cities.

Up next - OHwell - We need to end the war now!

Remember - The patch doesn't allow ocean travel with galley anymore.

Josiah - Please confirm you are confortable with regent level.

Sistine Chappel is key project for us with the size of the island. Don't cancel unless forced.

EDIT - Deleted old attachment

For crying out loud, it's been days and days since anyone has taken a turn. I'm giving this game 36 more hours and then I'm out. Anyone out there that wants to go, download the most recent save file and if you post before Ohwell you can take his spot. I'm taking over the management of this game since everyone else is involved in like 100 darn games!

Note to players: Don't sign up for more than 3 succession games at a time. It's not fair to the other players when you have your turn in three different games all on the same day so you just slack off.... At least post and tell us what is going on... If you do post a time, stick to it (this means you Ohwell [punch] ).

Thank you and have a pleasant evening.

Lurking,

If you don't like the pace of this game, then I suggest you start your OWN succesion game with a shorter required turn around time. I have already decided in my future games to drop it to 48 hours.

"For crying out loud, it's been days and days since anyone has taken a turn" I don't understand your complaint. I moved on Dec 12, 2001. That is just two days ago.

I STARTED THIS GAME AND AM I STILL RUNNING IT
Ohwell still has 30 some hours to go. NOBODY else is to move.

Lurking if you don't like it, then please drop out. You already have cost me players in this game. If I see you trying to take over my game again, I will consider you dropped.
To be honest, I would be happy if you left. It is obvious you are NOT enjoying the game. I suggest you start your own succession game with 24 hour turnaround required.

For future reference, maybe you should make your next succession game with about 3 people. The long time in between turns is frustrating. Not to mention the fact that some arent as reliable as others.

The number of people is my biggest decision that I can't find an easy answer to.

A small number of people like you suggest leave you really screwed if one person drops out.

However, you brought up a new point I haven't thought about. Time between moves. Once another one of my games end, I plan to cut to 48 hours to help that problem. I may drop the # of players to 4. However, I need to end another game first before deciding.

I think 3-4 people would be the best. As time goes on you will find out who is reliable and makes for a good succession game. Any game between now and the 3rd of January isnt going to go to smoothly I would think.

The fewer people also lets you play more often, you wouldnt get that "The whole world has changed since my last turn" feeling.

Look, I have enjoyed the game. I know that lkender has no control over other people's decision to drop out or to take more than 72 hours to move. However, I think it's irresponsible to slow down the game so much that it's unenjoyable.

I do have a very nice succession game on Apolyton which is proceeding smoothly with a total of 4 players. One player had trouble with his computer and promptly let us know so we could drop him from the rotation (hopefully temporarily). We also had a player who hosted pictures for the thread and wrote decent background to make the story more interesting for readers (not just for players).

What I'm really asking for is for my fellow players to be considerate of the other players. If you're going to take more than 48 hours, it is nice to let us know. If you let us know how long you'll be, then stick to your word. It's fairly simple and I don't know WTH your problem is lkender. How did I cost you players in this game? I have taken my turn withing the 72 hour limit and have posted timely.

Again, my complaint is about the people who play many succession games and are inconsiderate to other players. That, and the nazism of lkender. I thought you were pretty laid back until your last two posts. You can't stand to have your power weakened over us "lowly" players... Give me a break lkender. Try to be a little more mature and respectful of opinions that disagree with your own.

Lurking,

These games are being run for fun, not personal attacks like "lkender you suck at running games".

I am not interested in starting a post of feuding here, so I will say nothing more.

Future reference to ALL people running succession games. I have painfully learned my lesson. Less is better. 3 or 4 players max.

As for the players, I do agree with you. I am frustrated with the number of drop outs I have had with just 5 games.

Up next - Ohwell Lets get back to playing.

Look Lurking, you had better just keep your mouth shut about this or drop out. If thins happens with anyone else in any succesion game I am in, I will politeley ask the master to drop him. If I were head of this game, you would be dropped right now. I have quite a while left, I am sorry I don't live in the ****ing United States, ok? So shut the **** up!

To all:

I've played in bunches of succession games with Civ2, and I can tell you that problems with drop-outs and just plain life issues will pretty much always be a part of these things. I did notice that eventually there was a group of about 5 or 6 of us who were always good about playing and we finished several games as one group. Every so often one bowed out and we added another, but I have a feeling that this will be the case with Civ3 as well. There probably won't be enough reliable people to have 5 or 6 games going at once, but there should be a core group that will be able to play consistently and with more time will be able to write very witty and entertaining story lines. With so many new people joining and perhaps not knowing that the playing is easy while doing a write-up (and I like to embellish and story tell whenever I can) can be pretty time consuming, I fear that there will be more of the same for a while.

Sort of the "eyes bigger than your stomach" thing when you order too much at a restaurant.

In lkendter's defense - and really to several others I've seen on this board - I think the game "controllers" are doing quite well. In the past, several would have probably died out and fallen into oblivion.

On a similar note, it would seem my work life has reared its ugly head once more. I do go through bouts of travel at times, but usually never this late in the year. This weekend, I head out to Chicago and I'll be returning on Tuesday (18th) afternoon. I thought that I would have had the time to get in another turn before I left, but it seems I won't. I do NOT want to drop out, I would just ask for a postponement until I return on the 18th. Then, luckily, I won't have any travel again until early March.

I look forward to seeing how this game ends, and to future games as well.

The egyptian gods chose Lord of hammers to lead Egypt to prosperity.

910- Tzintuzen destroyed!

930- Tlazcala captured

970- In a skirmish outside tlaxcala, a great leader, Ramsess, has arisen!

980- Ramsess created an army

1000- In the battle for Teotihuacan, Cheops, a general, has arisen! Teotihuacan was captured!

- The Aztecs have two cities left

- We have an army, and Cheops can be used to rush a wonder. Get to it!

- The Aztecs shall die! Kill them all!

- WOW! 2 leaders! The gods must like me....
