Suggestions and Requests

Depends on your definition of "better".
Because if it's anything like I think it is, the implementation is going to feel like this:
rs_500x282-140403104441-mariokart8.gif

And exacerbate the current situation by making the lower places catch up too fast.
The rubber banding is causing most of the troubles in the first place, thanks to the mechanic that diffuses tech to non-tech leaders.
Well first of all, there is no tech diffusion mechanic.

Civilization is unlike Mario Kart in that techs once gained cannot be lost like your position in the race (so maybe my choice of words was unfortunate). The idea is more to slow civs down who are ahead of the curve already, so they have it harder to get even more of a lead. It's not about suddenly being overtaken by everyone else just because you were in the lead once.

My observations are that AI civs that are behind usually don't successfully make it out of that situation, and that AI civs in general have trouble keeping up with skilled human players, so I think that should be addressed.

This is not about making tech leads impossible, but limiting the compounding effects a tech lead can give you and making it harder to further extend an already existing tech lead.

I've been thinking about this for a while and what I could imagine is for example increased cost for techs where nobody else knows the prerequisite techs.

Yeah, Leoreth is known to have owned a Gamecube, so I'm trying to remind him of the horrors of going from 1st to Last Place in a matter of seconds.
Damn, you have a good memory, I don't remember even talking about this.

Actually I'm considering buying one again. I kinda got hooked again since there's one at my office :mischief:

How do you manage to work enough not to get fired?

Only play against your immediate superiors ;)

We still play Mario Kart 64 every year around Christmas time, never gets old.

Small suggestion: Maybe rework the possible timeframe/conditions for the Herbalism event? I got it while I had a single 1 pop city, meaning I got a permanent +2 Health at zero cost. That feels a bit inappropriate to be honest.

If the XML allows that, yes.

(Full disclosure, I don't work in tech, but this is based on my experience with many of the local global company headquarters, whose campuses I've visited from time to time via invitation/luncheons/etc.)

Tech companies, at least here in the Bay Area, specifically the ones around Menlo Park, Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto,
tend to adopt a retention strategy focused on keeping employees in the workplace for as long as possible.
To this end, they try to make as many comforts, perks, and free stuff available as possible to keep employees there as long as possible.
So the last time I went to one, not only was the food available very good, but there was foosball, a tennis/basketball court, a gym,
a theatre (IIRC), table tennis, free candy and snacks EVERYWHERE and just about anything else you could think of to keep you entertained at the workplace.
Bear in mind that all the employees that work at these types of companies are 20-somethings or young 30-somethings, so the work culture is incredibly different.
It really feels like an extension of college.

So having a Gamecube in the break room or something is actually fairly tame in comparison.

On topic, regarding tech, I think that it's still difficult to maintain a lead.
In my last couple of games, I was mostly testing as Japan, and as such, removed the foremost culprit of tech lead (China) in every game.
India, the other culprit was usually dead as well.
Now, I still circumnavigated in every game and won the Lib race, but still generally had a hard time keeping a lead, both pre and post-Japan nerf.
France, Spain, Ottomans & England were just teching too fast and I contemplated invading them if my stability wasn't suffering.
If it's not diffusion, there has to be SOMETHING quickening the pace globally for all the civs, that's quite strong right now.

I don't want to dismiss the possibility that something has changed while I last paid attention to this. I good way to give me a better impression of this is to screenshot and send me the technology graph from statistics screen.

Edit: I had a look at the code and it's a mess. I definitely won't change any fundamental mechanics and will instead streamline the code, make the numbers nicer and make everything transparent in the interface. I think that will help us figure out if further adjustments are needed.

Another small request:

Could you use this version of the CityLSystem.xml? This file can't be made modular and I need it to make the Russian 2nd UB art to work. (And I don't want to loose compatibility)

For the main mod, it doesn't change anything. It will just be there and do nothing. But it will help a lot with the compatibility of the modcomp.

Please remove all the Roman Roads from 1700 AD start.

I experimented moving central Italy, Sardinia and Corsica one tile west. Then there was enough room to expand the balkans 1 tile west. By moving Greece and cyprus one west then there is enough room to move/expand Anatolia and Levant.

So the final result was more Balkans, Anatolia and Levant. If crowiding isn't a problem, it is possible to add Tirana, Salonica, Sofia, Dobrucha, Smyrna, both landlocked Konya and Ankara, ochrid lake and Tuz lake.

I also added aggean islands.

Much better! Anatolia right now is horrible place to have city and Balkans could be more relevant.

edit: what about Italy?

Central Italy, Sardinia and Corsica moved towards Iberia by one tile.

Nice! I'd make Sarajevo Dubrovnik/Ragusa myself.

EDIT: in fact, move Ljubljana and Zagreb one tile up, put Sarajevo where Zagreb was and Split/Spalato where Ljubljana was too. That would be more accurate and would cover more historical cities.

Yes, why not.

Honestly I think your suggestion is very good one. Difference is so small it took me some time to notice it.

Finally room for Antioch and an Orthodox goal to unite the Pentarchy?

e: Southern Italy looks weird now. Missing the heel.
