I think it's also the case that if you're actually running any mods, you're probably a bit more savvy that you don't need hand-holding. As much as the people on here might be more likely to run mods, I would guess that in the general population, probably 75% or more of people are not running any mods.

It's not in the patch notes, so I'm very curious. I can only imagine the bugs that are being taken for granted by the customer base that are induced by not unsubscribing to the mods, mostly because the customer has no idea/notification about the update....

EDIT: I mean, why isn't it in the news feed on steam?

In Civ6 Facebook page, someone suggested to another player to turn off the mods and the Civ6 FB admin agreed.

And what information does this "representative" have that we do not? He doesn't seem to know anything more than we do. If Firaxis does not give this person any information then his communication is as much a guess as ours.

"You can expect the patch to break many mods. Its impact on saves is unclear, but I wouldn't be optimistic, personally." does not sound like an informed statement.

"Cross-platform MP will not happen until the patch is on other platforms - if it will happen then. I have no information to confirm that it will, but here's hoping." This is not an official or reliable source of information.

I doubt there would be an official statement because, as several people have
mentioned, most players don't use mods.
Most users know that patches break mods. Why should the devs take any
responsibility for any 3rd party mods? It's not their property.

Because you have to unsubscribe from many mods, and sometimes clear the cache.

The mods themselves are not the property of Civilization 6, but workshop integration is. Civilization 6 has a mod manger built in where you can browse workshop mods, and disable those mods. It is implied that disabling a mod, through an interface that is integrated into Civilization 6, should prevent those mods from affecting the game.
 
This is why I try my best to not use the Workshop to Subscribe to mods. It's much safer (and easier imho) to download them directly from here or Github. And if I do have to Subscribe to a mod through the Workshop, I move it to the MODS folder and rename it from the numerical gibberish it's named by default, then immediately Unsubscribe on the Workshop.

They have no responsibility for third party mods, but they are responsible for whatever bug prevents the "disable" setting from actually disabling all effects of a mod.

Of course. It's one of hundreds of little and large problems with the game.
I'm sure it's on a "To Do" list they have, but I wouldn't expect it's a high
priority.
 
How hard is it to put a message in game showing the game was updated and how to disable the mods?? I guess some people will defend anything Firaxis does.

Looking at a FB page is akin to being here -- not too many of the players do that as a percentage, and again that's not an "official" announcement, and quite frankly, it wasn't even mentioned until someone else mentioned it and the admin agreed, not exactly taking the bull by the horns. And, if 75% of players don't use mods, how many people are the 25%? I have no idea how many people own the game, so let's just say for every 100k sold, 25k use mods. Of that 25k (per 100k), how many are members here?

Again, I am looking at this from the typical user, like I am on other games. When Heatherstone (for example) updates the game, it's in my face what they are doing and why, and what balance changes took place. With Civ 6, it's like a big secret.

I think "standard", i.e. unmodded Civ6 on their original maps is weak junk, so,
no, I don't defend everything Firaxis do.

Why should Firaxis hold your hand because you don't know how to disable a mod
you yourself installed. Are you completely incompetent?

Some mods are installed in the Mods folder; others require being put in the same
directory as the executable. Why should they try to anticipate how every mod is
installed, which files were or were not altered, and where they might reside on
a drive. Do it yourself, or get a 5 year old to show you how.

Although the disable button does not work properly, it does still exist. So they must also feel that this is their responsibility.

Thanks for being a complete jerk. I truly appreciate it. After all, you've been here a year now. So, to subscribe to a mod on steam (I'm a modder, I'm not an idiot, but thanks again) it's as simple as clicking a link. BOOM!!! You are subscribed.

You don't wanna play with mods? Just uncheck it in the game menu. But, that doesn't actually get rid of buggy behavior with many of the mods that were not "installed" over hours, but were just a click away.

Nothing about having to unsubcribe. Nothing telling a customer he/she needs to unsubscribe. Let's not even talk about other files needing to be deleted. But thanks again, classy response.
 
Sooo.....back on topic and away from the vicious verbal fight between posters above. How's Scythia doing OP-ness wise post-patch? Is the heal still really, really strong (as it was in the original)?

I was messing around with them the other day and they're still strong. Sure they aren't immortal death knights that you can throw against anything and outheal the damage that you take anymore, but as long as you fight with your guys in pairs, the fresh unit can make the first attack, then the damaged one can finish the target off - then rinse and repeat with the roles reversed and everything's fine.

Funny you should ask this, I have just a story; however, it is from the AI's point of view. :)
I've now finished my second post Summer-patch game as Brazil (Immortal/Pangaea), where I'd decided not only to shoot myself in the foot by doing completely peaceful early settling (got to 5 cities before I was boxed in the middle), but to put a bullet in my head as well by "beelining" the Great Library (I've found the 'Is there a GL strategy?' thread in another subforum) and seeing, how many Ancient/Classical boosts I can avoid until its completion (with some great pains I only managed not to get three Classical ones). But to compensate for that, I was buying great works in bulk for 1 gold later and trying to see, if this would be enough for CV.

Well, with my efforts it wasn't. Scythia launched to Mars on t361. Funny fact: AI Tomyris accomplished that after having lost its capital to neighboring France somewhere in the first half of the game. France had probably double Scythia's city count, too bad Cathy was going for CV, and what even worse, lots of her art was somehow smuggled abroad :mischief:. The end was neck to neck race with Monty, who somehow caught up, I even saw his last completed rocket ready to go in the fog, but Tomyris got there first, good girl :). I checked afterwards, she got Sagan, and Monty got Kwolek.
