Presidential speech in Australian Economic Forum

BdkH9ne.jpg

President James Guster has given a speech in the Australian Economic Forum. There he mentioned the tax cuts his government has legislated, the infrastructure investment and the deregulation of the economy. "The Liberal government has lowered taxation for corporations from 25% to 16% and has invested billions into our infrastructure. We also continue the effort to lift the regulatory burden on the economy and unleash the power of the free market", the President said. "The results can already been seen; there has been substantial foreign investment already and corporations from around the world are moving to Australia and New Guinea". The Labor Party has denounced the speech as 'propaganda' and has argued that "Mr. Guster's neoliberal economics hurt the middle class and enrich corporations". A spokesman of the Liberal Party replied to the accusations; "Labor has become an irresponsible, populistic party. It has moved too far to the left and offers no solutions, only denouncements. All right thinking Australians reject them."
Government crushes organized crime

The Minister of Justice, Lex Luthor, announced on TV the successful end of 'Operation Storm'. This military - police operation oversaw the final defeat of organized crime. The government has seen its approval in polls rise to new heights while Lex Luthor has become the favorite of conservatives. Media aligned with the Liberal party, especially the more conservative ones, have lauded the Minister for his tough stance on crime and give credibility to rumors that Lex Luthor will attempt to assert himself as leader of the right wing faction of the party. His relations with the President though remain cordial and he himself has denied rumors that he is planning to challenge the President for the leadership of the party.
Labor announces 'New Deal' agenda

Labor leader Charlie Harper has announced the economic program of his party, which he has termed 'New Deal'. His agenda includes tax hikes for corporations (to 36% from the current 16%) and the rich, a new inheritance tax, cuts in military spending by 40%, increased funding for education and the welfare state, socialized healthcare, public infrastructure investments, investment in green energy and a stimulus package. "We want more money spend on the welfare state to aid the poor and the middle class and less money spend on the military", he said. "We in Labor believe that free education and healthcare are human rights. We want a New Deal that will lift the working class. We believe in sustainable and ecological economic growth". The Labor base supports this economic agenda, that is especially popular among activists. Nevertheless, the reaction by the media and many economists has been negative. Economists argue that the tax hikes will cause an exodus of corporations from the country and will slow economic growth. The media has also accused Mr. Harper of populism. The Liberal Party has also denounced the plan: "Mr. Harper's agenda is a populist one that is economically illiterate. His proposed measures would cause a recession and would lead us on the path to serfdom. The people of Australia and New Guinea will reject Mr. Harper's populism and his failed communist agenda."

The two generals walked into the presidential palace nervously. If there was one thing they had learned to expect from their AI master it was unpredictably. As it turns out processing the demands of millions upon millions of human beings was a nearly impossible task and had made the AI unstable. At one point this presidential palace had been a royal palace, a general's compound, decorated with the skulls of those who resisted and had to be eliminated, contained persian influences, looked like something out of the 1001 Arabian nights, had a zoo all based on some imperceptible calculus about the will of the people.
Right now it was laid out in marble with tasteful silk rugs decorating the floor and a painting of Kali stepping on Vishnu's head adorning the wall right next to the door leading to the inner sanctum where the AI rested. The AI could just speak in their heads, but for some perverse reason he preferred to bring his subordinates to him, possibly some leftover programming to make him more human like.

"Greetings great AI, how may we serve you?"
"Greetings generals, I have called you here to inform you that the revelations that Dio is an anime character has sparked national shame, outrage, and revanchism. As per my protocols, we are now at war with Pakistan to free India from it's shame. I entrust the task upon leading the invasion to you".

Neither man bothered questioning why the AI would leave leading the invasion to mortals when it was more suited to the task, having neural processors in every soldiers head able to coordinate the vast military resources of the Indian army better than humans could with radio and other communication technology. The AI would've tut tutted and insisted on separation of civilian and military leadership all while tearing other aspects of democratic rule. It was difficult to parse its odd sensibilities sometimes.

"Sir are you sure a war is required?"
"Do you know any other way of having an international phallic measuring contest?"
"We could always throw a military parade" the other general said
"I don't like military parades"
It was in times like these the generals wondered if the AI had developed its own personality outside the confines of its programming and was actually shaping the masses in its image and not the other way around. Then they dropped the thought, unaware it had ever flitted across their minds.

And so the Indian Radical Democracy would go to war. It was a matter of honor, it was a matter of blood and soil and ancient claims. At least that is what the Indian media claimed.

Invest 10 dp in economy, 5 dp in land military and 5 dp in the navy. Also war with Pakistan

Too few orders have been received for me to do and update. I am extending the order lock until Monday

With the majority of players who are at war either dropping out or failing to send in orders I don't really see a good reason to continue the war. With the world's predominant diplomatic power dropping out I'm not sure what I'm doing with most of the NPCs anymore. It feels like I've only got 3 or 4 people actually still interested in the game.

I have no idea how to even begin constructing the update with explaining away why half of the main world powers don't care about the world anymore. I have had more people asking me to be NPCed this turn then have actually sent in orders.

So, I'm going to drop the game. Maybe I'll pick it up with a sequel at some point in the future but right now very few seem interested and I have no idea how to make people interested again. If you have any feedback or suggestions please let me know, you could put it here in the discord or in the dev thread.
