Survey, which unit graphics do you like best

As soon as I saw the build icon for the Ritualist, I loved it. That color combination works to produce a 3D effect, with the Ritualist actually appearing to be "in front of" the background. Very cool.

first, which dwarf do you mean, exactly?
And, second... it happens with frozen animations, because we never created (or were able to) freeze animations, this means while frozen, it reverts to standard unit art, while animating it should be actual unit art.
can you confirm this?

The initial, base-level warrior. The one that you start out with. And yeah, during animation it clicks back in, so I guess that must be the reason. Is it difficult to freeze animations?

My favourites are probably the bannor units paticularly the horse archer lol. my least favourites are some of the dwarf units. I like the really cool ones like the dwaf druid but units like the dwarven slinger, which is human, and the dwarven soldiers, which are shrunk down humans annoy me. lol

hehe, yea, they are from the god old pre blender days :) dwarves will get what the deserve at some point.

I fear that I won't appear to think too much out of the box, but I really enjoy some Anmurites stuff:

The Swordsmen, Chanter, Scout, Hunter, Ranger and Adept being, from my point of view, among the best-looking units. A pity that not every civ il entitled to the same high-standing graphic position, but this is certainly only a matter of time ;)

hehe thank you, I created them for the Age of Ice scenario, along with the Doviello, both civs are my favorites :)

what do you think about the Amurite phalanx, firebow and immortal?

Yeah, I often play with all the graphics turned down, they do indeed change into vanilla civ4 units (usually warriors) when they aren't moving.

I am not sure which units are from other games or mods and which are unique to FfH, but Hyborem is definately my favorite unit overall.

I also like the general look of Basium but his figure seems to be a little undetailed (maybe he should have some tattoos or scars or more defined muscles).

I like the Infernal units the best, the imps and longbowmen with the purple flames looks really cool. They are very easy to see on the map and look awesome.

I really like the new dwarven units too, the goat chariot, boar rider, the new Bambur, especially the druid, scout, and worker. It is easy to tell that they are dwarves and they fit well the overall looks of things.

I also really like the shield wall even though it uses the phalanx from vanilla the circle they form is really cool, I wonder if its possible to make more unique formations for some of the units.

I also really like the religious symbol that appears behind the head of the priest units (though not the units themselves they're all great prophets)

I also like the assassins they have a good consistent style of wearing mostly black and being single figure but you can still tell if he is a dwarf or human. Would be cool if you could incorporate the movement animation of the great spy unit from vanilla for these guys.

In general it seems to me like a lot of the units don't stand out well against the background, not exactly sure why, maybe there isn't enough contrast against the browns and greens of the terrain. Could also be that many of the units take up much less space on the tile than in vanilla. And many of the animal type units appear in the corner of the tile so that could contribute as well. Maybe an overall increase in unit size would be good?

:goodjob:

I'll go with all of the Ogre units, the Stoneskin being my personal favorite. I am currently using the art for the Ogres to represent my "Outlander" Orcs in the Breath of Pestilence Mod I am developing. I also like Rantine (who I think would make a great Orc/Goblin assassin template if he was a bit shorter, stalkier and had a pair of shortswords).

The Doveillo, Amurites and the Illians are outstanding.

Hello,

My favorites are Bambur, Hyborem and I really love Doviello (all units) and the Orcs.

My least favorites are Baron Duin, Arthendain, Dwarven Warrior, Dwarven Slinger, Paramander and the Dragons and the most Mages and Archmages.

Baron Duin just misses finetuning and a different animation in a sense that he only turns into a Wolf when attacking.(the same could work for the other Werewolves)
Arthedain, Dwarven Warrior, Dwarven Slinger, Paramander .. certainly this choice is clear.
The Dragons , yes this is unusual, but there are so many better dragon units in other games, even older games like Neverwinter Nights, that i allways think that our Dragons could be improved a lot.

The most Mages and Archmages simply miss unique graphics .. I just mention Ljosalfar ...

Lizardman are also missing something. Maybe it would be better to give the orcs just an 'orcish' Ranger/Druid(Nature)-Line ?

ahh and I forgot .. The Riders of the Apocalypse are .. not so good and also the skeleton units could be improved, but then I do not know, whether 'real' skeletons would work with the background.

They are really too many to mention and to remember.
In this moment what comes to my mind are:
- Bambur (a real piece of art)
- Amurite units (ALL ! Except Govannon :P)
- The Dragons

Unlike many who posted, I don't really like Balseraph units much. Maybe they aren't serious enough ? I don't know which artist made which units, so I'm not biased :P

I really like the Amurite Adept and the Amurite Immortal...although I wish he had a sword...

The elves need some lovin'! I saw the LOTR Elven warrior you made seZ and its awesome..you should include it into FFH?

After thinking about it some more, I also wanted to mention that I love the various Conjurer animations for when you summon items. Even though I don't usually like the Lightning Elemental summon, I love the animation.

i realy like the amurite and lanun art because it matches their civs realy well and i like all the immortal units that don't look like modified spearmen i think that each civ should have a realy unique immortal like the elven one. great job overall on the art!:goodjob:

thats funny, I always thought the great Immortal art we have is wasted, because noone ever builds immortals... preferring Mages and stuff ;)
But yea, once we have the lower tier done, we might as well make the immortals unique :)

I have clear ideas concerning the leaders, as there are many different styles with art from very very nice to "unsure" (it is very relative)

But you talk only about "units" and not leaders ...

They are all satisfactory as long as you can at a glance see that it is by instance an adept and not a monkey.
However:
- Heroes should all have a special aura (glowing "gold" in the style of a promotion?, a symbol floatting above their heads?...). This would be equivalent of reputation preceeding them: you can see heroes if they are entering your visual range (or in cities)
- Yersinia (I am unsure about the name or the hero): there is an entry in the pedia where "he" asks for a better look, as he seems to go for Mardi-Gras ... I totally agree...
