Teach me and you. Give me a gem.

129) Dont expand too quickly early on. 2 or 3 cities is okay for the early period. Expanding too fast early on will cripple your economy, you'll have to drop your research % to accomodate and it will take you ages to recover. Unit upkeep costs will sledgehammer you.

130) Dont ignore resources. Once you discover a tech that reveals resources, make sure you pay attention to any pop-ups. Make sure you scan over the area of map you have already discovered to see if any resources have appeared, take note especially if they are either close to you, or close to a rival Civ's borders. Always make sure you check nearby Civ's for these resources. The longer they have access one that you dont, the stronger they get, the weaker you get. If you see one you need, aim to expand to it, or prepare to take and defend it.

133) Once you discover Astronomy build Observatories before Universities unless you haven't met the requisite amount of Universities for Oxford University. The reason being, both buildings generate the same bonus but Observatories are less expensive.

135. If you are on good terms with your vassal, tell him what to research and have him research a tech you don't have and don't want to research. Then trade him for it after he gets it. He's your vassal, make him work for you!

Hmmm. The little jerks always give me WFYABTA, or just plain refuse to trade. I guess I'm not mean enough.

If it is relatively early and hey voluntarily vassalize, you are usually friendly or pleased, this works best then. They are on good terms and haven't met their tech trading limit.

If you vassalize after war, you can do this too if you vassalize them early. Just spoon feed them techs and force them to your religion/civs and eventually, they will come around to pleased. Then direct their research as you desire. Usually this civ has not been a tech trading partner and will not have hit his tech limit.

Vassals made later in the game don't work so well for me either.

In the new and improved 3.19 patch, vassals are always willing to tech trade with their masters :D

I haven't made it that far in a game yet. That's wonderful! Thanks! :D

138.1) Never automate your workers during the first half of the game, or to build things like cottages, farms, etc. Do automate at Railroad. (Lemon's First Law of Having Other Things To Do.)

138.2) Never automate your workers unless you have "Automated workers leave old improvements" selected.

75. When you bust your hump to get the Pyramids, DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE TO REPRESENTATION! Duh.:nono:

Sadly enough I have often found myself 5 to 30 turns beyond the one where I got the Pyramids and didn't switch civs.

Once, i accidentally switched to police state instead of representation, and didn't notice this until the early ADs :(

Also a tip, when you finish pyramids, reject any demands by A.I. civs to change your civics, if you do comply, you won't be able to switch to representation immediately, which often leads to you forgetting all together about the revolution timer!
