Team Monty - Emperor Training

Jeez, what did you guys do to that other continent

Great stuff, guys, another victory in the bag. Mad-Bax must be getting used to these domination-type grab-as-many- tiles-as-you-can turns. For what it's worth, I'll have a quick look through your turns later, but it looks as though you've all mastered emperor comfortably, and indeed, from other SGs it is apparent that you can all cope with deity.

Sid should pose an interesting challenge though!

40 tiles from the limit so close that war was never necessary.

Pre-turn I changed half a dozen builds on the home contiment to settler. I disbanded a lot of H'wacha in the Ex-Russsian lands to hurry another half a dozen settlers.

1405AD: Built towns wherever coverage would be increased most. Saved the game, and checked mapstat to find we wre 8 tiles over the limit. It's enough.
I pressed space a lot to skip worker turns.

If you want the Hall of fame entry, here is the final >>save<<

With a score of 5656 we were magnificent (obviously).

Nice game guys. The archer rush at the beginning was the big part of the game for me, but in the end the AI just folded up.

See you all in another one soon.

Ok, now I see what you meant by settlers being the better way :D

I will have to remember it for next time I want to rush to domination.

As you say, a good game. I must say I do like Succession games where you get different playing styles coming together.

Thanks again for running this Nad. I learned a lot from it.

Wow, that is a tremendous score! I think my highest individual score is around 4500, so I may sneak this in my own Hall Of Fame as well!!

Very well played to all three of you, an outstanding team effort with great exchange of ideas. You took on board the things I noted I noted and impressed ideas of your own. Towards the second half it was more a standard game than a training game.

I had a quick glance over OFW and Greebley's last turns but there is hardly anything for me to note of any significance. A very well executed landing, and quick demolition of Russia. The Iroquois deserve some credit for their stickability!

As training games go this was a bit different from the norm! Right from the ancient age we went on the military path. Usually, training games are played peacefully, the ancient age is about expansion, the middle ages about trading, the industrial mage about military dominance and the modern age victory. This turned out differently mainly because of the situation we found ourselves in, and we played to that situation and found ourselves on the military route. In a way it is good that this was not a standard training game, becuase we have probably covered areas of the game that other training games may not have done.

I hope you all enjoyed the game and picked up some useful tips, from me and from your fellow players. As a closing exercise, maybe you could note three things you've picked up from this game that you are beginning to use in your general play?

For me it's easy.

1. Executing an archer rush. Had never done it before.
2. Staying at min science. Usually I gear up to self research during the middle ages. The extent to which this stunts you militarily is clear to me now.

3. Cultureless conquest. Although I suffered from flips in this game, I don't think I will again. In future I will starve small cities and raze and replace larger cities. The need to rush temples in every captured city is a waste of money. Get them building workers and settlers whilst starving.

3 biggest things learned:

1) Better usage of corrupt towns and to focus on specific goals when choosing builds in general. I found this much more effective than my previous method which was sometimes haphazard - or automatically building libaries in every city taken.

2) The advantage of holding off an attack and wait for better odds, or to wait for bombardment. I tended to rush attacks in an attempt to go fast, but because this lost more troops, it would actually slow me down.

3) A lot of micromanagement tricks with efficient worker actions or with towns and moving citizens.

I forgot I was not done here yet.

I learned how to execute an early archer rush, I also had never done it before.

2. I learned how to better manage my workers and thus making the all around game a stronger one.

3. I learned that I can beat this game on Emperor!

Thanks guys for a fun game, and Thank you Nad for all the input and critiqueing that you did.

Hope when I have more time after the 1st of the year I will be able to play some sg's with ya.
