Tech Tree Discussion

No idea. When I add new ones they go in My_Mods first as part of the mod eg BrackenSpore's stuff. They all got merged in for v37, I think.

Just do a wingrep on TechInfo in the my_mods folder.

Yes, but most of those i already had on my online tech tree. so they were accounted for when I was messing with the tree. So Besides those 2 techs, Alt-timeline techs and religious techs, there are no other techs not in the core?
I think this is all there is.

What is the status now for adding pepper's techs in? Almost done? Close? Still more to go?

Just saw a show about Origami and its application to science and technology. We defiantly need to add these origami based technologies to the tree. So some stuff like ...

- Origami (the original paper folding art. Would require techs like paper and geometry.)
- Thick Origami (the industrial application of it using metamaterals)
- Molecular Origami (folding proteins for medicine)
- Architectural Origami (creating buildings using origami techniques)
- Robotic Origami (building robots and machines using oragami)
- Aerospace Origami (Using origami technique for spacecraft, solar panels, etc)
- Cosmic Origami (understand the folds of Dark Matter in space. Possibly leading to space folding tech)

In short I recommend this episode of Nova, to anyone interested in this very cool application to origami.

Personally, I think this highly overemphesises origami. I know your feeling; when I learned something new then I also think about it's applications in civ and come up with way to much stuff. In the end I think "yeah, pretty cool stuff, but probably not worth adding it's own tech(s)". I can see applications in space, since the payload size is limited, but for the rest I merely consider it a nice gimmic. Is it really used widely today? Will it be superior to huge 3D printers in the future?

My only disagreement is that I believe more in a growing branch of physics theory that is abandoning dark matter as a crutch solution to fill gaps in our understanding. So folding dark matter is non-sensical to me. Folding space itself, however, is quite interesting. And there are a lot of neat things you've given to watch which I haven't been able to yet so I'll check them out tomorrow as I can.

Maximum 2 techs imo:

Origami (Only if you can think of four things that it will unlock.) Edit: An "AND" prereq. for Advanced Folding Theory
Advanced Folding Theory Edit: Prereq. for something within cybernetics, material structures and/or medicine/biology/molecular science.

I'll watch the video now to see if it will change my mind.
Edit: The first video wasn't available, the second didn't really make me think that we need more than two new techs in this scientific area.

I'll watch it either later today or tomorrow, but as I said, I can understand your hype. When I studied biotech,I had plenty of things in mind that would require their own tech, just because how awesome they were. And I was so focussed on the biotech stuff that I saw all it's facettes. Taking a step back, I found that we have several generic biotech techs already, and while they are not named "CRISPR" or "Plasmid Toolkit", they include this stuff - amongst other.

Then I picked up space as a hobby and again I think that reusable rockets should be it's own thing; different types of engines such as closed-cycle, open-cycle etc would make a good tech, grid fins, vernier-thrusters.... But they are all included in Advanced Rocktry etc. With the possible exception of reusable rockets, which would make a good tech I think.

So yeah, before adding plenty of techs, take a step back and think if your ideas are not already included somehow or if they can be better represented by buildings maybe.

1. So Advanced Folding Theory + 2 other techs you mean?

2. The first video was just a preview for the 2nd video. I am ok with having the two techs. As long as they repesent the stuff presented in the video. Though I still think we might want the "Cosmic Origami" in the Cosmic era.

It seems possible to combine these effects with the already incredible properties of CNTs: https://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/58190 (I'm mainly including the link as a reference, but I have to admit I didn't really understand it, seeing as it is a research paper.)

Yeah that was one of the many applications by using the mathematics and techniques of this advanced type of origami.

I trust you to make the right decision as long as it doesn't involve 7 new folding techs as you first proposed. ^^

I would prefer 2 techs, but if you see a need for 3 or 4 new techs, I guess it's fine.

Could I request that you hold off any new techs until after this weekend? I want to merge the rest of my new Galactic/Cosmic/Transcendent techs as well, of which there are almost 30, and I am worried about conflicts.

I plan on doing that this weekend if at all possible.

I just have the Transcendent techs to go. The rest are already added. I did the Cosmic tech yesterday.
