Tech Tree Discussion

@raxo2222 are units also recosted or are those left alone?
Yes, they need to be recosted too.
Modifiers depending on main combat class (visible in pedia) are included in excel file.

So lets say I have a recon unit that gets unlocked in a tech that's at x=22.

Building class (w/o modifiers) for x=22 is 132.

Since it's a recon, it's actual cost is 132*0,75=99?

Yes

@raxo2222, @UncivilizedGuy I believe I am done. Before I commit it I'd like for you to try out it first and see if everything is alright.

I tried to make sure that units/buildings were properly recosted and avoided building/resource prerequisites from being unlocked later than they should be.

I've also attached a screenshot of how it looks.

They need to be done but you need to refer to the charts on those to see what the end % adjustment to that unit type is. As Raxo's quote reply shows.

You forgot to revert to original files before changing them :p
Now I have to restore original latitudes :p

Unit costs are rounded to nearest number dividable by 5.

Which ones? I wonder if it's a file I didn't send.
World wonders.

Also some buildings now are unlocked before resources are unlocked like whale.

Caste System can't require Negotiation anymore.

And now its done.

Distance has nothing to do with it. You can travel across the ocean on currents alone as proven by Thor Heyerdahl. Austronesians did use sails but that wasn’t until the end of the Neolithic.
Just a reminder to you all, C2C is Not a historically correct Mod. Never was and never should be either! It's a What If Mod. Lose sight of that core concept and the mod will never satisfy anyone nor everyone. We've been done this road multiple times over the life of this Mod. New players need to understand this. New Modders do too!

I totally get that. Otherwise I would make a long list of corrections. At minimum though the techs should be in the ball park of what was historically accurate. If something is obviously far off then it should be corrected in my opinion. The Sailing tech was screaming at me to be moved. In general though the tech tree is accurate enough. I have a tech tree programmed into my head because of all of the research that I’ve done so when something looks out of place I find it too distracting.

It's time to stir the pot again. A few more techs that have been bothering me. Equine Domestication, Elephant Domestication, Camel Domestication, Falconry, Tengriism and Animal Riding are Neolithic techs. They all occurred around the time of and after the invention of the Wheel. Seeing Horsemen so early in the game feels off to me. Especially before the invention of Agriculture. I see what you guys did there with all of the animal domestication techs but if it were up to me I'd move them. At minimum I think they should be moved to the next era.

Something else I'd like to discuss is how the eras are defined. Technically Prehistory goes all the way up to the invention of Writing and Bronze. The Ancient era in this mod actually starts where the Neolithic era begins. The Ancient era should start with the invention of Writing. As a matter of fact the Ancient era encompasses the Classical era. But if they were to be divided the Classical era would start around 800 BCE which is more or less where you guys already start the Classical era. If you were to begin the Ancient era at Writing it would be a much shorter era. So I understand if you don't want to change it.

I guess those techs go for earliest known examples.
Ancient era starts roughly after animals started to be domesticated and during agricultural revolution.

Didn't @Thunderbrd want Classical era to start at 2000 BCE?
Iron working for example fits with early estimate of 2000 BC.
Changing date target for Classical era would be just matter of changing date step size for Ancient and Classical era.

Era start at following dates:
Prehistoric - 200 000 BC - Ends at 10.0% of game
Calendar is set to slow down at 8.0% percent of game at 10 000 BC (80% of Prehistoric era)
Ancient - 6000 BC - 18.7%
Classical - 2000 BC - 25.1% (First quarter of game is in between of Classical and Medieval era)
Medieval - 600 AD - 31.1%
Renaissance - 1300 - 37,4%
Industrial - 1700 - 43.5%
Modern - 1900 - 54.7% (Middle of game is around half way of Modern era)
Information - 1990 - 62,9%
Nanotech - 2050 - 72,5%
Transhuman - 2150 - 81,5% (Third quarter of game is somewhere in Transhuman era)
Galactic - 2300 - 88.2%
Cosmic - 3000 - 93.5%
Transcedant - 4000 - 100%
Future - 6000

Entire SVN tech tree is here.
Where you would set starting dates of each era?

I always believed the system was set so that the ancient era encompassed the time between the neolithic revolution and the full development of writing, thus the 6000-2000 BCE timespan.

Writing is bit early, but right on beginning of Classical era we have Currency, Mathematics, Iron Working and Alphabet as examples of major tech.
So start of iron age or development of Mathematics or Alphabet would fit better.
