Tech Tree Discussion

Good tech breakdowns there Azure!

I'd suggest Intellectual Singularity for the name though so as to make it distinct from Singularity, the physics term.

Nope. I suggest "Technological Singularity" because that's what it is also known as.

Thanks Thunderbrd! Technological Singularity is the official mainstream name, I approve of that name if Singularity is used as a physics term. Man and machine are finally united. So is it approved?

Fair 'nuff. I just felt Singularity was too vague and abrupt. By the way, does this include the concept of achieving a unified field theory?

I think you made a good case so it's got my vote.

Aerial Colonization

What exactly is the tech? What does it mean? Define the discovery.
Aerial Colonization is the annexation of floating cities. Floating cities are large settlements that strictly use buoyancy to remain in the atmosphere of a planet. However the term generally refers to any city that is flying, hovering, or otherwise suspended in the air . The concept of floating cities are very popular in science fiction. At first they were tourism destinations and places of recreation like a cruise ship, because since they exist above storm clouds its away sunny.

For move information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating_city_(science_fiction)[/QUOTE]

2) How does it's prerequisites make sense? What about them becomes the key to unlocking this discovery?
Orbital Flight [The technology of skyroads and orbital vehicle enginering designs]
Superstrong Alloys [Alloys that can support the tensile and magnetic strengths]
Artificial Photosynthesis [City is powered by artificial photosynthesis from sun]
Antigrav [one of the main power sources, and antigrav vehicles can land on aerial cities]

Fusion, Magnetism, Thermal Gases, and Antigrav will be the main energy sources that power the repulsorlift engine needed to lift the cloud city.

3) What is it leading to? We're inserting a tech wherever we work on the tech tree so then the question of 'why is this tech critical to unlocking the next ones that stem from it?' should be addressed.
Orbital Megastructures, because Aerial Cities once fully developed can send cargo to outerspace, and the technological and architecture advances are critical to build orbital cities .

4) What would this tech add to a civilization? Buildings, units, promotions, civics? Other enhancements? Even just some suggestions so there can be some discussion on those suggestions and further brainstorming would be good.

The reason this Tech is important is because its the next step of colonization, after Marine Colonization. When we colonize the sea, the next step is to colonize the sky. Inspiration can be found in the game Bioshock Infinite.

Link to video.

Another reason is the TECH Skyroads is full, and there is so much we can add. In Caveman2Cosmos, not every citizen is going to live in a cloud city, it is reserved for the ultrarich who want to get away from urban centers.

Buildings
-Cloud Shopping District (ultraluxerious shopping distrct)
-Icarus Hotels ( (ultraluxerious hotels)
-Aves Superior [the start of winged humans, like Cetea Superior in Homo Superior]
-Stratosphere Hotel
-Cloud Nine Luxury Resort [World Wonder- ultraluxurious resort]
-Airhaven [World Wonder- first Aerial colony]
-Aeroship Stratoport [the landing place for giant futuristic Airships]
-Stratophere Air Base [National Wonder, military]
-Ozone Regenerator [tower that pumps out Ozone from the delivery of carbon dioxide aerotankers. Ozone is O3 and Carbon Dioxide is CO2 and non-flammable ]
-Aeronomy Lab (science of the upper region of the atmosphere and atmospheric physics.)

5) What might it obsolete and why?
It should obsolete Air Balloon Rides and Zeppelin based Buildings.

6) What needs would inspire the civilization to develop the tech? This is asking about the needs of the citizens and the needs of the nation which are two differing things
.
Since civilization is able to colonize the ocean, they will have manifest destiny to colonize the sky once there are skyroads. When skyroads become popular there will be a need for Aeroships (cruise ships of the skies) to land somewhere. Also since ground level cities will probably be overpopulated the ultrarich will petition to live in the most exclusive areas. Aerial Cities will be few and will be heavily guarded, and they mobile but very slow.

-Aves Superior [the start of winged humans, like Cetea Superior in Homo Superior]

Its Cetea Sapiens, and they are uplifted Dolphins, not aquatic Humans.

-Ozone Regenerator [tower that pumps out Ozone from the delivery carbon dioxide aerotankers. Ozone is O3 and Carbon Dioxide is CO2 and non-flammable ]

We already have one of these at Weather Control tech.

-Aeronomy Lab (science of the upper region of the atmosphere and atmospheric physics.)

You mean a Stratosphere Lab?

It should obsolete Air Balloon Rides and Zeppelin based Buildings.

Currently they go obsolete at Skyroads tech

-Icarus Hotels
-Stratosphere Hotel

What's the difference between the 2?

Aeronomy is the scientific name but we can call it Stratosphere Lab.

It's a typo, I only ment Stratosphere Hotel.

For houses, we could call them Skylofts or Sky Islands for the ultra rich.

I wouldn't call it a Stratosphere Hotel (there already is a very famous one here in Vegas that may even already be a wonder in the game...) Perhaps a Stratospheric Hotel might work and be more indicative of a generic hotel located at or near the stratosphere.

My only complaint about this tech, which isn't a 'complaint' so much as a concern, is that we'd want to identify on the map where such cities are. They strike me as an extension of what will eventually be the nomadic method but would be located on a second map perhaps, either that or isolated from the main map from an altitude method we discussed when looking at the underwater map functions (basically just establishing another 'layer' view on unit data for the most part.) Either way it won't be the easiest thing to work out from a programming mechanism.

So before we have it programmed out... how do we go about decently representing these things in the game itself? Perhaps until we can do so properly, we should hold this tech in the background and enable the tech tree to bypass it.

Otherwise, from a conceptual perspective, I love it!

I would like to the Art of the following Techs updated:

What exactly is the tech? What does it mean? Define the discovery.
Novo is latin for Revive, and paleontology is the study of past species . The revival of extinct species beyond 20 million years. This means we can revive exinct species, collect their genomes for pharma, and for attractions.

2) How does it's prerequisites make sense? What about them becomes the key to unlocking this discovery?
DNA Computing
Artificial Photosynthesis
Cyberimmuniology

I beleive before we have Artificial Evolution and Artificial Life we should be able to revive extinct species. This tech will also house late Transhuman biological, anthropological, and genetic buildings. This would lead to Artificial Evolution. It would also be required for Organic Cities, because if we can revive exinct plants, we can find new exiting generic properties.

4) What would this tech add to a civilization? Buildings, units, promotions, civics? Other enhancements? Even just some suggestions so there can be some discussion on those suggestions and further brainstorming would be good.
Miniature Dinosaur Shop
Eon Simulator
Novo Pharmacy
Fossil Resurrection Center
Origin of Life (Project)
Jurassic Park (World Wonder) (required Wireless Electricity Fence)
Cambrian Seaworld (World Wonder)
Archaeopteryx Perserve (world Wonder) (required Wireless Electricity Fence)

5) What might it obsolete and why?
Zoology, and Paleontology buddings.

6) What needs would inspire the civilization to develop the tech? This is asking about the needs of the citizens and the needs of the nation which are two differing things

The inspiration of generic exploration. We have gene enhancement and genomic encyclopedias, the people will get a "manifest destiny" of trying to catalog all life since with the Genetica Apparel shop they can by Tyrannasarus leather shoes, etc. Instead of reviving skin, at this point we have the technology to revive the whole creature. It fits perfectly with the techs surrounding it, we have no geology/biology building in the area.

I can make the Techs and upload them here if you want.

Cool tech. Perhaps we could have Trained Velociraptor units take on an advanced canine role ;) We could heavily arm and equip a Tyrannosaur to ride into battle with missile launchers and machine guns mounted on its shoulders - its mind completely subjected to the whim of a powerful mind control helmet controlled by its rider. Brontosaur could become the next big meat source for McDowells.

Cool!

Miniature Dinosaur Shop
I think it should be called "Paleo Pet Shop" so it can have other animals besides Dinosaurs such as Mammal-like Reptiles or Trilobites.

Jurassic Park (World Wonder) (required Wireless Electricity Fence)
I belive we already have this at Time Travel and would just have to move tand give it new requirements.

Archaeopteryx Perserve (world Wonder) (required Wireless Electricity Fence)

No need to give them a specific preserve. They would probably be already in Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park and Cambrian Aquarium would do just fine to cover all periods in the past no matter if they were in the Cambrian or Jurassic.

I would also Carboniferous Paleo Botanical Gardens to show off the various extinct floral species.

Infact we might just want to call them ...

- Paleo Zoo
- Paleo Aquarium
- Paleo Botanical Gardens
