Ted Stevens Finally Crossed the 'Bridge To Nowhere'!

Did he used a series of tubes to get there?

Nice two more to go.(Hell we can probaly get one of the more sane one's to go along with us most of the time though. LIke those one's for Maine.)

The vote is in and it seems Mr. Stevens will indeed lose his Senate seat and end up in "a series of cubes".

Excellent. Its not even about being a Republican or a Democrat. The man is a felon and a federal convict. He deserves to be voted out of office and hopefully the senate kicks him out anyway.

The senate is only for senators that have the brains to not get caught while being corrupt. I mean, what does this say about our politicians to the world? That we cannot properly conceal our corruption? Silvio Berlusconi is laughing at us.

So, considering that Begich's first term would end just as Sarah Palin would be forced out of office by term limits, does this mean we'll have a Senator Palin in 2015?

I am voting by mail for Chambliss. If he loses I call for a recount.
Aint gonna happen, soon we will kick out that Republican sitting in your precious seat and prop in a Democrat and ultimately bring in the Filibuster proof senate .

Don't get your hopes up. A Martin victory would be a real upset at this point. Not quite "John McCain wins the election" level, more of a "Ted Stevens wins reelection" level surprise.

Chambliss is a bastard.

Chambliss is a bastard.

Amen.

What chance will there be a Bush pardon/commutation of Stevens' conviction, if not overruled by an appeal?

He's stated he doesn't want a pardon, and would prefer to appeal the court decision. There's allot of people inside the party who want to throw Stevens under a bus. I'm not sure as to whether or not it'll happen however.

I'm not a fan of either senate candidate here. Why couldn't the Libertarian have gotten enough to be in the runoff instead of either major party candidate? Having a single Libertarian Senator as the swing vote in breaking filibusters would be awesome.

My dad forged my signature in order to request an absentee ballot for me. He really don't want Martin to win and give the Democrats full control of the Senate. I don't want them to either, but I'm not sure I want Chambliss there either. I just may decide not to mail in my fraudulently requested ballot.

Stevens said he wont ask for pardon.

I'm rather surprised that a freshly convicted felon even had a chance at defending his seat...

Knowing he would probably be kicked out anyway, many may have voted for him so the sitting Governor of Alaska (Palin) would name a Republican replacement who would have the seat until the next federal election in two years.

Not positive that is how the replacement is chosen in Alaska, but that's how it works here.

That's awesome. It's quite possible that some solid progressive legislation will pass with a wide democratic majority. History shows that democrats are much better than republicans in... well, pretty much everything related to governance. The common guy is much better off under democrats.

However, conservatives shouldn't get too afraid, because the democrats are quite factionalized, with plenty of bush dog cons (blue dogs) and "new democrats" (DLC corporate shills).

I'm astonished you said that. I thought you were all "the Democrats are just another member of the Corporate party" (which they are).

ah, this might be the reason I guess, though he could have just done the honourable thing and step down to make room for a non-con republican candidate...

btw, I was under the impression that you lose your right to vote (at least for some time) if you're convicted of a felony in the US. Does that only go for voting and not being the candidate? or does it only apply for more serious crimes?
