Only because of the undemocratic, electorally-rigged, corrupt, and glutted in their long-abused incumbency Duopoly Parties - who are, both of them, the REAL problem in this issue that need to be removed from the board before any improvement, betterment, needed reform, or real democracy or electoral choice - and thus government accountability and transparency of any sort - is even possible.

There's no option except to let their internal contradictions continue until they destroy the US,
or they find a better way. The numbers for anything more extreme just aren't there, no matter
how loudly you scream at each side.

They do't know yet which way the Republican party will turn after Trump and they don't want to be on the wrong side of the following purge.

And from a purely opportunist point of view, a Democrat-controlled senate probably provides better chances at reelection for a Republican.
