TENSEI

From: President Dhaval Balwinder Jain, Federation of South India
To: The World Community

To My dear countrymen and the Greater World Community, Namaskar. I would like to speak to you today regarding the world situation and the Federation's role in the world. Many people from in and around the country have asked me what our stance is in the world and what we should be doing. Already we see the old ghosts of imperialism and nationalism rising from the grave. Already we have seen alliances form and tensions grow. Many of us remember the old world before the war and many of us remember the horrors inflicted upon the guilty and the innocent. No one corner of the world was spared and only now we have started to grow again and clean up the massive damage. It will take decades to clean up all the rubble and reclaim the ruin. Are we so eager now to repeat those mistakes for the greed or selfishness of a few?

We in the Federation say STOP! Stop this madness before more suffer. Stop this before we end all life on this planet. We seek a diplomatic answer to the questions of the world and offer our services to prevent more conflict. If a neutral ground is needed or observers requested we shall assist. Now several years ago we proposed a treaty covering Earth Orbit and Near Space that would demilitarize the area and establish travel and communication channel to prevent disasters and provide assistance. Some have stated that this is an arms limitation or a restriction on military forces, this is not the case. In the past, we have had agreements that handled international waterways, space, and Antartica even during the worst tensions of the Cold War. So when people say this is impractical or impossible I do not believe that. It has been done before. We shall continue to extend this treaty to all countries with a presence in Earth Orbit. It is not a perfect treaty, no treaty is perfect because people are not perfect. However, we must be the first person or the first country to take the first step.

Regarding the world community, we believe that people and countries are stronger when we work together. For example, our country is composed of both theists and atheists; idolaters and that loathing idol-worship. We have adapted ourselves to myriad kinds of ideologies, different ways of worshipping and all types of traditions and imbibed the art of co-existential living. Now it is fine and good to feel pride in one's country or culture, to be proud of one's school or sports team, however, when you enforce your culture or government with force or by denigrating others, then you have failed. We in the Federation believe that each community and each country should determine how they wish to live. We in the Federation seek to trade with everyone and help everyone. We shall adopt a position of Neutrality regarding the recent Trade Groups and Defensive Alliances. We shall keep open lines of communications to all and seek open dialogue.

Now let us be clear. Simply because we are neutral does not mean we ignore the world's problems or that we are weak.We shall work with others to deal with international issues such as international crime, disease prevention, environmental cleanup, and terrorism. If we are attacked we shall defend ourselves with all our tools available.

My many felicitations and best wishes to you. Thank you.

The New Scramble For Africa
It is now abundantly clear that two mutually exclusive things have irrevocably been put into motion - the end of Italian presence in Tunisia, or the end of African independence. Do not be soothed by the empty promises of the Italian prime minister that Tunisia will be the limits of his nation's expansion into Africa, do not settle down because the Tunisians will experience full rights in the Italian polity, unlike what was offered to our ancestors in the first scramble for Africa.
The subjugation of Africa was built on dead bodies and broken promises, and any attempt of a European power to reassert itself there is just begging for that ugly history to unfold again, no matter how well intentioned the initial people in charge of the colonizing are. However, I cast doubt on Italian intentions - look at who is backing them - the fascist Nords, who have already slaughtered Africans at home, and seem poised to slaughter them abroad. To invite Italian presence in Africa is to invite the Nordic butchers into Africa.
I hope to see this crisis end peacefully, with Tunisia a either an equal polity under SPA or its own democratic state. However, seeing as a Pandora's box has been opened that may never be closed, I urge South Africans to protect their fellow African from imperial exploitation through a military intervention in areas of anarchy where Europeans or others with imperial designs may justify their interventions. The president should move immediately to secure Transvaal, Namibia and Botswana.
May God have mercy on us all.

Excerpt from Presidential Address by Julia Castilla to the Assembly, January of 2059

...and furthermore, men and women of the Assembly, I feel today that, in light of what has happened in Africa, it is necessary to remember where we came from.

It was not so long ago when the tanks rolled into Caracas. I was only a child, but many of you were there, some of you even serving the nations that came before us, when the imperialists, thirsting for blood, came to enslave us. But they did not tell us that we would be slaves, did they? No, they came as liberators, as saviors. They were going to free us from our oppressive leaders, free us from the chains we never thought we had. We would vote for our new leaders, and they would build roads for us, schools for our children. And when their hands were around our necks, they tore us apart to fuel their reign of carnage.

And today, the hands of corporate imperialism are closing around the neck of Tunisia, complete with the promises of a bright future for those people. A future that the Italians have no right to lie to them about. The scars of the Black Imperialism run deep in Gran Colombia, and to those of us that bear those scars, I ask you; can we stand idly by and see those scars inflicted on our fellow man? No, not while we still draw breath. Not while Gran Colombia stands amid their broken chains and cries out in one voice that no man will be a slave to another.

Thus, I am declaring here, that a full embargo will be placed on Italy by Gran Colombia, and any polity that seeks to directly support the vile subjugation of the people of Tunisia. I also call upon all nations of the world, here in South America and elsewhere, to join us in calling for a free and independent Tunisia, liberated from the black hand of corporations and imperial greed. Let us come together against those who would seek to bleed the world dry, and tell them that this world is not theirs to rule. Not anymore.

From Lesedi Coetzee,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Intendência Verditas High Military Council

The Verditas coven must add its voice to the global choir denouncing your occupation of Tunisia. Regardless of your stated ideals of assisting the Tunisian people, you were not invited to their lands and aim to govern the Tunisians from Rome. This dis-empowers the Tunisians. Everything else is public relations spin.

That said, you have stated as your goal to assist the Tunisian people and your own domestic pressures will not easily allow you to abandon Tunisia. No doubt you have economic and political considerations that also make wholesale withdrawal difficult.

Let us suggest therefore, that you assist the Tunisians in developing their own independent government, one friendly to your ideology, political, and economic interests, but ultimately wholly answerable only to themselves. This would allow you to retain opportunity for influence and investment in Mediterranean Africa while also balancing the needs of the Tunisians and of greater Africa, and indeed the world of seeing Tunisia independent.

Should you ignore the global outcry, we will also add our voices to the global choir in stating that the Verditas coven will be amongst others in taking a harder stance against Tunisian occupation if we need to. While we do not know what actions we will take to dissuade you should you not listen to reason, we promise some measured and globally responsible response will have to be made.

(OOC: We recommend you release them as a friendly (client) NPC nation like many other players are doing).

If the Tunisians are so oppressed as moral busybodies believe they are, wouldn't they vote against the union in a free referendum monitored by independent observers across the world? Why doesn't anyone wait for the vote of the Tunisians? If they vote against the Union, we shall grant them independence at once. If they do vote for Union, however, we do hope that everyone will stop talking and respect their wish.

I am recording mom's story for my children and grandchildren. Our history professor wanted us to interview our parents and relatives as part of a living history assignment.

'What do you want me to say beti?'

'Anything you like ma, it is your story. Tell me how you met Nani.'

'Well, the first time was in 2030 but I will need to start from the beginning. I was born in 2015 in Bangalore, my parents were tutors who helped people learn and practice English for their Visa Exams. I did not have any brothers and sisters since my mother had a difficult pregnancy with me and she and I almost died when I was born. So afterward my mother and father decided sterilization was the best option. My parents met when they were working at a call center Ahmedabad and moved to Bangalore so they could take care of his parents. So since I was the only daughter I was treated like a princess, I did not have to share anything with anyone! It was glorious! It was also lonely. I guess the reason I was drawn towards computers was that I was used to working and playing on my own.

When I was ten one of the local political parties gave away free computers during the elections. It came with games that taught you how to research and find things on the Internet and write code. Most families and kids just used the computers to watch films and televisions but did not know how to fix them or improve them. So I became a small IT department and mom and dad would take me to me friend's house to fix the computers. I even helped mom and dad set up and maintain the network in their classroom. At one time I felt free and powerful and smart but I could not travel outside the house without an adult. Young kids and girls are vulnerable and so many of them just disappeared and were never found. So my access and window to the world were the computers and the internet. I upgraded my computer in 2030 with my own savings. I know it is old but I want to give it to you as a remembrance of me.

The world was changing, the technology was changing and I was changing. I was becoming a young woman and had my first period. My parents were smart and wanted me to know all the facts about biology. So they took me to a class that was being hosted by a non-governmental organization that taught girls and woman about their bodies. They had been protested against and already condemned and praised by various groups. The woman who hosted the class and taught the class was strong and confident and brave. I knew I wanted to be like her. Her name was Amita Patil and she was your grandmother.

All countries except SPA and Cyprus have trust in the referendum and have been given permission to send observers. We wish to note SPA that if it does not respect the referendum, we shall defend Tunisia by war if needed.

OOC: If the referendum is lost, I will release Tunisia as a friendly NPC, so you are not going to get Tunisia unless you declare war. So, if you want war, just say so. There is no need to spam the thread back and forth. Will not reply to any more posts.

The observers... are they to be allowed? The S.U.D.S. reminds Italy that if we are unable to observe the referendum and to be able to sent our journalists teams there then we will have to draw conclusions on areas where the Italian government does not want us to observe.

We will like to also have a examination of the mechanics, especially the question itself and accessibility for polling so that we can ensure all full democratic proceedings are taken account of.

SUDS observers will be allowed. As we have said, independent observers from all over the world are allowed.

The Federation of South India shall dispatch a team of observers to oversee the Tunisian Referendum. We request unrestricted access by all sides to all polling locations, records and officials. We shall remain neutral in this referendum and are going to simply report everything that is going on. If this access is not granted or if we representatives are intimated, harmed or restricted then we shall report all details to the larger community. We simply ask that all sides allow the Tunisian people to decide their own destiny and respect their decision.

Cyprus would point out that, Rome wins the referendum either way. this is not what is considered fair.

OOC: Christos would like to point out that OOC stands for Out of Character.

Republic of Cyprus news:

the presidents has been talking about the situation with Tunisia, and they have come to the (perceived?) conclusion that Italy pays more attention to us, and regards Cyprus as a bigger threat than sahel, the presidents have decided to de-escalate the conflict.

the Republic has decided that it will recognize the referendum, either way. union or independent, it wouldn't have mattered, because we were never going to commit to anything, we just saw something that italy has done wrong, half the world responded, and so did we, because we *basically* see Italy as a threat.

ergo, we want a treaty of non-aggression between Italy and Cyprus in exchange for us looking the other way about the Tunisian disputes and all future disputes involving italy. we are isolationists, and dont want to be involved any farther. or caught in a war. or something.

We accept the NAP.

RoC address on international affairs
by Joshua Shin | 06/20/2060 11:14 AM JST

The Republic of China made a rare public statement in response to rising tensions in the Mediterranean, chastising aggressive parties and urging all countries involved to look to their own affairs before forming international alliances.

In a brief public appearance by the foreign minister, Yuzheng An, a prepared statement was read at the Vietnamese consulate in Taipei for international consumption. This is the first appearance of the foreign minister in three years, following the 2057 annexation of Yunnan province. Called by some the "Hermit Republic" the Republic of China does not allow foreign citizens or diplomats much access to the country beyond approved diplomatic quarters in several cities and much of its political structure and government remains opaque to outsiders, though elections appear to occur with regularity on overlapping 3 and 5 year cycles. Even contact with diplomatic officials is rare, with no high-level channels between RoC and its neighbors existing.

"The downfall of the liberal international order was its insistence on universality," Minister Yuzheng warned a small crowd of Vietnamese diplomats and press. "In the modern era no country can afford to sacrifice for distant, idealistic causes. A web of mutual dependencies, either from trade or treaties, only serves as a noose around a sovereign nation's neck." This comes after numerous nations around the world, including the RoC own northern neighbor the IBS, began to join wide-ranging international trade compacts. It serves as a rare indication into the RoC's world-view and quashes hopes that the RoC could be persuaded to participate in any multinational trade agreement in the near future.

He went on to explain that tensions over Tunisia were likely just reflections of internal domestic pressures that the involved governments were unable to effectively manage. The only nation identified by name was the Sahel, which he stated was simply "looking for nationalistic aggrandizement."

"I look forward to our next meeting," Minister Yuzheng stated to the Vietnamese ambassador before departing the embassy. The Vietnamese embassy is one of the few ways the RoC disseminates public statements outside the country, issuing traditional press releases honoring the Chinese New Year and warning of "globalist corruption", largely for the consumption of the Chinese diaspora.
