Do you think Pluto can Be terraformed?

The Celestia stuff of coarse... :goodjob:

Before I do so, do you have the "Globular Cluster Generator?" You will need it for some of the textures to work.

@Geddon
Earlier, you asked me to submit my pluto stuff. Well, it is now available for everyone to download. You can find it at the Celestia Motherlode.

That might be true, but if we could find a way to somehow get around the whole Laws of Nature thing...
Then all science would be rendered meaningless.
All science being rendered meaningless, huh? Then it would make YOU obsolete!!!! :p

I can hardly wait...

(Just couldn't resist... :evil: )

You wouldn't. Gravity decreases as you dig because the mass above you balances out the mass below you. At the center of the earth/pluto you would be perfectly balanced and weightless, provided the planet is a perfect sphere of uniform density.
But Earth is NOT a "perfect sphere of uniform density." I'm sure that there are pockets of greater density, and lighter density scattered all over the place.

Basically, the density increases with increasing depth, superimposed on which is a certain "lumpiness". I read somewhere that the highest gravitation is found near the outer edge of the core.

Edit: At the centre, gravity is however as close to zero as to make no difference.

@Perfection

Perfection, Pluto CAN be terraformed! :hammer: :lol:

And also supposedly on Pluto's moon, charon. So all we gotta do is haul the water ice down to the surface and we're all set. :goodjob: :clap:

(It'l take quite some time, though, so you better pack some lunch. ;) )

Temperature will be a problem too, but maybe a nuclear or a fusion power plant could be built, connected to some electric heaters built across Pluto.

By the time we even get to pluto, we'll probably have enough experience from the Mars Project, as well as some possibly genetically engineered plants and trees (or microbes) that can thrive when it's just 30 degrees above absolute zero.

(Assuming space aliens don't try to stop us. ;) )

Yes, you have to worry about those!

Superconductors won't be a problem, the cold temperatures would probably help. Pluto could have a MagLev network.

Just think......

This is the life! :sleep:

Now there's the problem, ;) but what i don't get is why people always think that "Aliens" are more advanced then us. :confused:
If we did make contact with aliens, they would either be as advanced as us or more advanced, simply because of the speed that communications can travel.

Good god, not this thread again!:crazyeye:

@Plutonian

Terraforming in the traditional sense on Pluto is impossible. Pluto has neither the temperature nor gravity to sustain any breathable atmosphere, much less water. Now, one thing that might work is building great dome-cities, complete with a nuclear power plant and electricity powered perhaps by spaceborne solar panels. Or perhaps we could find some way to tap into solar wind. :hmm:

Hmm, but that does not mean they have to be as advanced as us. They can be in the frikking Stone-age. (Who said they would be the ones to contact us. ;) )

They would need equipment to be able to recieve our communications. On Earth, we have SETI which can pick up any possible alien communications. If aliens are to have something similar, they would need similar technology.
