Would there have been herds of horses in Europe at this time in history?
I mean it wasn't like the American west right?

not the american west, but europe, especially then (think a MUCH smaller population) had loadds of space.

Don't know the answer to that one. Probably were some wild horses as there would have been big areas of unsettled land.

It seems that horses originated in North America but became extinct there around 7000 years ago. The horses in europe were decendants of horses from america that travelled over land bridges to Europe.
