I'm down to the last four! Help me finish this off! Quotations still needed for (the tough ones):

I put in other post.

I am an old person who is computer illiterate.

Downloaded TAM to desktop but it wont open. i downloaded another version of 7Zip in hopes of working this problem. It doesnt work still. tried yet another 7zip file and tried downloading TAM again. no go. Anyone care to help? Is there something different i need to download? or am i doing this incorrectly? a private message explaining what to do would suffice.
I am not going waste my time researching how 7zip works. If it is too complicated to explain or somehow too stupid a question to bother with its ok. It isnt really that important.

Hmm.. I'm also pretty computer illiterate, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to help or not. When I download TAM, there is nothing that needs to be unzipped. It is a self-extracting file that executes when I double click it. When I double click it, I do have to select the folder for it to extract to. That is the Civ4 folder.

@ O.O. Howard

i had this problem too... the download canceled always at 80% and so the zip file had errors. i tried to download it a few hours later and that time the file was downloaded completely and it worked.

@ team

maybe host it on another mirror ?

Well, that's not really the case. It only made them vulnerable to catholic crusades (1204):D
A more probable reason is that the bulk of the Byzantine Army were the soldiers settled in the thema (province) system. As the state control was so big in the economy, the rich upper class could invest their wealth only in purchasing land. So they literally bought up the army;) As taxes were high, people were willing to sell their land. It's hard to fight back the muslims without an army:rolleyes:

As an example, Alexandria had could have resisted indefinately. It's walls were stout and fortified with towers, and its garrison of 50,000 out numbered the besiegers. It had open access to the sea; the arabs as yet had no naval forces, and the city could be resupplied from Constantinople. Its population was 600,000 Greeks, Copts, Jews, and it had a garrison of 50,000. It's civilizing presence dated back almost a thousand years, and it's christianity for more than five hundred. The initial arab assault failed before it reached the gates, for stones were hurled against them from the top of the walls, and they were driven far from the city.

This goes on and on, we are talking about the initial arab onslaught in 642.
Alexandria was surrendered on September 17, 642.

Various religous factions within the city led to its ultimate defeat. Byzantium had the troops but no leadership.

Byzantium itself lasted another 700 or so years until the Turks conquered Contstantinople in 1453. The sack of the city by the Crusaders in 1204 only hastened its demise.

The Mongols, Seljuk Turks and Parthian horse archers used strong fire and retreat strategies. Parthians could use their composite bows while sitting on horses backwards. The term "parthian shot" comes from the horse archers. The Mongols used many different types of arrrow.

As our city building palisades hasn't got graphics yet, I designed
a new model and skin.

will be important for future changes in siege warfare.
and it will help you assess the city's defense.

Ive just got some quick questions regarding units and their bonuses. Some strike me as quite odd.

Clubmen: 25% city defense bonus why? When Archers have none....surely archers have a greater chance of inflicting casualties when defending from walled cities?

Elephants have a greater chance to withdraw than Chariots? Chariots were disigned for hit and run tactic? I understand that that an elephant can just walk/run away from a combat, who's going to stop them, but if cavalry are involved in the combat they could just follow. Also Elephants were renowned for going wild in combat...lose control. How could you withdraw a couple of tons of livid flesh?

Catapults have a chance to withdraw...again how? They generally were constructed at the seige site. How if you are losing the combat are you capable of dismantling it and running?

Question for the design team: are you planning on including TheLopez Mercenary Mod into TAM? Just noticed it through Kaels FFH thread, and it looks absolutely great - and would fit right in with the history period of this Mod, IMHO!

I believe I saw Shqype on that thread, so you already know about it... will you be including it? Pleeeaaase :D

Quote Laurino: "Man that would be damn good!"

Seems as if it is probably going to be implemented in one of the next versions.

It took me about 12 times to get TAM 1.5 downloaded. It would crap out anywhere from 5-55%. No idea why, but eventually I got it. It doesn't like slow dial-up!

Maybe in your language, but that is an Albanian proverb. The name "fatherland" in Albanian comes from the Illyrian word, Dhe = land, and At = father. Thus, atdhe = fatherland.

in my language it's fatherland, although you can also say mother fatherland :D
I know that slavic languages call it fatherland too, but in English it's generally most used motherland.

Following on from my above quote: Is it possible to tweak these stats in Notepad and resave? If so which file and whats the procedure?

These are modified in the XML files using either Notepad, wordpad, or an XML editor. Basically everything you could dream up can be changed. Google the CivIV wiki for in depth details on how to edit these files.
