The Ancient Mediterranean MOD

Hi all

First i want to say that this mod is great, and i have a lot of fun playing it (and i'm wainting for the new version! :hatsoff: ).

I have only one suggestion to make, after playing some games and especially after reading the posts: please take care that all the civs have a fair chance to win, and put on a lower priority historical accuracy, because otherwise it would not be as fun, IMHO. After all, we are trying to re-write the history here, not re-playing over and over the same version, that would be boring right?
I had a lot of fun as a Romanian to play with Decebal and kicking everybody's ass (especially Caesar's :D ) and i would not want to lose this option (not necessary with the Getians only). Otherwise, the Rome would always win right?

Thanks, and keep up the good work. :goodjob:

Not really. It's more of a challenge if you have opponents stronger than you are. I always play the Illyrians, and as an Albanian this obviously makes me happy. But, historically, Rome eventually subdued a majority of the Illyrians. I enjoy re-enacting history and having a large Roman Empire to fight against. I change history by conquering them, not the other way around ;)

Oh, and as for destroying Greece .... every time :D

Well, i am not so 'fixed' on a single civilisation, even that would be my ancestor's one. I like to try and play with every civ and have a 'decent' chance. Even if it would be against the history, i would like to found any religion with any civ, and build any wonder. For me it would be boring if always the greeks found the 'greek pantheon', egyptians found the 'egyptian pantheon' etc. I guess if the religions would receive more 'generic' names than 'greek', 'egyptian' it would be less odd for the iberian people to found 'egyptian' religion. Maybe something like "Ra's religion" or something, i dont know :P

Anyway, that's just my oppinion, i understand if you dont agree and choose to ignore it, its your mode after all :)

Ok... I know you're dying for it, so here's version 1.7! I have NOT tested this version yet, but I assume that it works. I won't be posting this on the main page yet, as I need to test it myself.

If you find bugs, let us know. If you don't want a potentially buggy version (well, all versions have the potential for bug, but there are degrees...), wait a few more days.

I'm just wondering how may people have been able to win a domination victory. I have a save game that I am playing as the Babylonians right now where I have about 28% of the map. This is the best that I have been able to accomplish so far (and might just get a domination victory when I finish it out). I usually get a time victory on the custom map/mod. How have others fared on this scenario?

I have played some games now and the more I think of it, my dreamscenario would concentrate more on the mediterranean. Make a bigger map of the mediterranean area and cut off germany and so on. Make many different seaunits galleys and seawessels, otherwise I think its a good scenario, better than EE3 and Fall from heaven. Can´t wait for that 1.7 version, please hurry.:crazyeye:

That sounds like a pretty good idea. Why don't you put together a custom map that plays with this mod and incorporates these changes. It would be cool to have a few different scenarios/maps to use with TAM mod.

I too usually end up with a time victory. I have a game going right now that I'm about 48% of the map, but that is about as close to domination as I have gotten so far.

Can't wait to try v1.7.

Hi Thamis,

I haven't played this version yet, but enjoyed the previous one.

However, I think some of the graphics could be better, so I did a little "work" for you.

Attached is a new loading screen that uses the Med map of Herodotus from 430 BC, rather than the one with modern borders and names on it.

I've also made a leader head for Julius Caesar. I used his bust as a base and then added skin textures and eyes. This is exactly what the real guy looked like. Whenever I looked at the other one, I thought, "Hey, an actor playing Caesar!".

Thanks for all the work!

Hey thanks that is awesome!

@Forests: Yea, let's even reduce it to 0.20 health per forest. And yes, remove health bonus from a few resources. That's why I was initially against more resources but said "Ok, let's give it a try."

As far as being able to win as any civ, I think the challenge is to make the most of whatever historical advantage each civ has. The more ancient powers get their UU earlier so early expansion is key for them while Rome expands slowly at first and then really has to slug it out later with the Germanic and Asian "Barbarian hordes".

I do wish that there was a better chance for cultural conversion. That would help the Greeks later in the game and to historically expand Greek culture. I also miss the seafaring civ trait from Civ 3. I really helped in TAM back then.

1.7, Rome, emperor diff

The AI dosent seem to utilize the sappers. It brought 4-5 sappers in an invasion army but never seems to use the at all with all the time in the world.

Otherwise this version seems great!

Edit: Some siege unit doesnt work, cant remember what unit it was... I think the sapper isnt working eather making the AI unable to use em properly

Well ... How did you get the 1.7 version? It's not in the first post. Please, tell us ... :crazyeye:

More ship are needed, like quinetireme (spelling) and more.

Yeah...I agree here. The naval combat leaves a little to be desired. There should be some more advanced ships in the late game.

BTW...while playing version 1.6 I noticed that fire ship (I don't remember the exact name) technology did not have descriptions in the game. I hadn't seen this before because some computer civ had researched it earlier and gone through the wonder building. Has this been fixed in the new version?

I only have one thing to complain about:p The tiber resourse?? doesent look like timber or trees or anything, think it should be removed or something. why not make a pile of logs instead?
