The AoM Travel Guide

I'm looking at my enormous spread sheet of techs and improvements, and I'm see A LOT of gaps...

I'm setting it so that everybody has the same number of technologies, or at the very least CLOSE to the same amount.

Basically, there's going to be:

8 Ancient techs per Civ
12 Middle Age tech per Civ
6 Industrial tech per Civ
2 Modern tech per Civ

Now... this can be distributed between cultural-specific and civ-specific techs, but every Civ should have these number of techs in addition to the techs that everybody can research.

Why don't you post the spreadsheet or a subset (e.g., showing Civ unique techs and/or their absence)? It'd make it easier for anyone trying to assist you in filling in the gaps :)

The dark blue is for civ-specific techs.
The purple is for culture-specific techs (i.e. for more than one civ)

The olive is for units.
The dark orange is for city improvements.
The dark green is for unique citizens.
The yellow is for wonders.
The green is for unique resources.
The red is for tech flags.
The light blue is for governments.

I've uploaded a new version that is a little easier to read and includes more ideas...

What do you mean? There's already cultural specific things in there...

well, I noticed things like religious specific stuff, and collectivist/individualist stuff, but nothign for the generric peoples liek those of the med sea, or for east asians..

Seems to me... that a lot of people make an initial comment or suggestion, and when I ask for further feedback, I don't seem to get it... kind of frustrating...

Could you post a screenshot of your exel document? Exel isn't working and I can't find my disk. Sorry for any inconvenience.

BTW, what Civs are you having trouble doing techs for? I'd like to try to help.

Well... have you got any suggestions for region-specific techs? There's MesoAmericans are a regional example.

hmmmmm.... well, it all depends; middle east should be rather cultural, Med. Sea war based, Greater europe industry based (but only in later eras),Meso America is a sort of wild card as far as generalitzations for what regional tech go, and east asia shoudl perhaps center in science

@ Mr. Will: Give me a minute. I'll have those screenies up in a minute.

@Xen: I had been intending to use religions as a regional tech-group, but that may not be appropriate in a number of cases...

Okay... so when you say middle east, do you mean ancient or medieval? Babylonians or Arabs? Or both?

And as for mediterrenean, I'm assuming you mean ancient?

Take your time Dom, I won't be on again for a couple of hours. Thanks!

well, thinkign it over more, it appears to me, that perhaps there shoudl be two "regional culture" based techs, base don era; form some, it is obvious when this would come; tkae europe fro example, when the late middle ages, and all fot he industrial era are clearlyl in its hands, at least in real life; for other cultures, it is harder, tkae the med sea civs, of whom clearlyl dominate the ancient age, yet, while havign a huge impact on europe and th emiddle east as a whole, particurlay in cultural impact, have much to be desired in later eras; so a bit of imagination shoudl be used in placeing these regional techs around, to give more unique gameplay, if possible; it might also be a better altentive to religions, for while religion is hugelly important to hiustory, oen must admit, that peoples of the same histoic regions have adopted, for the most part the same religions over time
