The attack on Syria

I have a master degree in chemistry and i have not done so many chemical experiments as you guys.

Primary school: smoking bombes and fireworks (incl mortars)
Secondary school (my nerd gang): all kinds of (KClO3 + sugar) stuff, mostly solid fuel small rockets
University (same nerd gang) : more small rockets and the Chlorine gassing during experimenting to make (Si2Cl4)n with in our heads (Si2F4)n.

That sounds like fun. Most experiments you do at university consist basically on making a lot of dissolutions to calibrate the spectrometer, measure some invisible reaction and then apply some equations to calculate things.

[old man story]
Back when I was younger you could buy almost any chemicals you wanted through mail-order and all you needed was an adult's signature, (forged or not) Potassium nitrate, Potassium clorate, magnesium dust, pure zinc dust, and all sorts of other materials (by the pound) for making all sorts of fun things. There were many explosions in those days. Now the FBI would show us at your door step

Mm, are you seeking to be profiled for a next generation AI drone strike?

Too bad our nerd gang time is now more than 40 years ago
Otherwise we would have for sure build our own small AI drones :crazyeye:

Post-Uni: Unabomber ^^

Another city near Damascus, Ad-Dumayr peacefully returns to government control after agreement with rebels.
Remaining ISIS enclave in Yarmouk continue resistance.

Video of Russian military police entering Douma:

P.S. Samples collected and sent to Netherlands for analysis.

What I don't understand is what Trump plans to achieve with this hypothetical strike. Let's say Syria used chemical weapons. This is bad. Assad and his thugs are bad men. But what will bombing them achieve? Which opposition group will gain from this, if any? Or will it just prolong and embitter an already too long and too bitter conflict? I don't see a win scenario here.

Unless the West is going to occupy Syria and impose some democratic regime a la Iraq (great précédent there), isn't it better to just let Assad win?
It's a farce to make Trump look strong and presidential while letting Assad off the hook.

Still no news about Russian carpet bombings, anticipated by some people as a reaction to US-led strikes.

Rather the opposite, Russia-mediated peace talks seem to work well in a few places. Probably because rebels don't trust Syria government and fear repressions, while Russian mediators managed to build up trust after several successful agreements.

Rebels and their families are leaving Eastern Qalamoun, each person allowed to take one gun and a magazine, surrendering all heavy weapons. Russian military police takes over the city, it seems the rebels conditions are the same as they were in Douma - Syrian army is not allowed to enter the city during transition period.

Anna-News report from Dumayr with English subtitles, watch from 4:00.

Hope the western partners won't intervene once again and finally let their mess be cleaned up.

:agree: We're merely biting bubbles in the bathtub.
Many people do seem to love them Trump Bubbles....darned butt snorkelers!
On a related note, since i first read that message, i've been having recurring nightmares about Trump taking a bubble bath.
The Horror. THE HORROR!:run::vomit:

Why is that idiot blairite plant still on such shows? (i don't mean Neil, but the grandpa to the left) :)

Anyway, some logical points by PH. More war creates more refugees and no win for the west anyway.

I thought the host was supposed to get all guest's opinions to be voiced.
PH just can't said two words without being interrupted :crazyeye:

No news about the alleged chemical attack either. No news about the magnificent disappearing Skripals either.

So Russia announced plans to further upgrade Syrian air defences by supplying S-300.

Which prompted a nice gem from Israeli defense minister:
"What's important to us is that the defensive weapons the Russians are giving Syria won't be used against us," Lieberman told Ynet, talking about Russia's plans to give Syrian President Bashar Assad S-300 missiles. "If they're used against us, we'll act against them."

Am I reading this correctly - Israel demands Syria not to defend itself against Israeli attacks?

Yep., They have the right to do whatever they want, whenever they want to whoever they want and no-one has the right to do anything about it. And if you have a problem with that then it's obviously because you are an anti-semetic, anti-israel terrorist anti-semantic commienazi librul poopooheaded evildoer agent of Iran!
