Atom Heart Mother

:)

Someone once told me (or theorised to me) that to be a real Floyd fan this must be your favourite album. I argued him down to one should at least know about it. I've met many a self proclaimed Floydian who'd never heard of any Floyd recorded before Dark Side.

Now, I used to get myself into those "You're only a real fan if..." debates, but now, well I don't really care. Every major groups has its fanatics who know the less famous stuff (in Floyd's case, pre-Dark Side, or maybe pre-Meddle) and it's less comitted fans who only know the real commercial stuff.

I do think that there is a certain threshold one must pass to be a true Floydian, but at least now I've rid myself of the snobbery of thinking "Ewww, you like Comfortably Numb? You know nothing of the Floyd!". :D

That sounds more like a "you need to grow up" problem than a Floyd problem. :)

I'm sure there are loads of people who know more about PF than I do. I wonder how many of them have a girlfriend, however. ;)

Oh hell yeah! This is my kind of thread!

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is BY FAR the best album!

Don't forget "Relics". The best.

I've got a bike
You can ride it if you like
It's got a basket
A bell that rings
And things to make it look good
I'd give it to you if I could
But I borrowed it

My favorite is The Division Bell. That's an album that I can put in and listen to over and over again. Although I don't think it's necessarily their best.

Not gonna vote. Put me down as undecided.

There are two artists/groups I have found that I invariably like their music. Pink Floyd is one of them. Even Money, I song I've hated since first hearing it, is growing on me. I don't like it still, but I hate it much less than I did before.

I like all of them. I've always believed that Roger Waters is one of the best song writers ever; he even ranks up there with those other two guys (what were their names, again? Lennon? McCartney? Something like that). I've always been partial to his "theme" albums, like "Dark Side Of The Moon", and "Wish You Were Here". I've even been a big fan of his solo projects, and am the only person I know who still has a copy (vinyl, of course) of "Music From The Body".

I know its a safe choice, but I think "The Wall" is their best. A great blend of Waters' writing, and Gilmour's singing --- not to mention some excellent guitar playing.

Second choice for me would probably be "Animals", or "Wish You Were Here".

Heh, I see that my favourites are winning!

The wall
Wish you were here
Animals

I wonder why you didn't include live-albums there...? Or not even "obscured by clouds" (which includes one of my favourite pink floyd songs - "Childhood's end" ... but the album isn't very good)...

The live albums have all the songs that the other albums have

Some people might call such a cliam outrageous. I am not one of those people. I think Gilmour deserves a good slice of the credit too.

I have that one as well, but on CD.

Water's is okay. He certainly had a postive influence on the albums. But I like the Post-Waters music more than the Waters era.

Not to say that I don't appreciate Waters, I just think Gilmore is better.
