The Biggest, Baddest Unit

Your like asking somebody why he doesnt like chocolate and he answers that he doesnt like the taste of it then you say "Saying that you don't like chocolate because you don't like the taste of it isn't an explanation, its merely tautology."

Belive me that i AM trying hard to like them, why? Because they are the ONLY bad thing i have heard about this game.

BUT..

..Why in the hell they couldnt put it in somekind of optional future era?
People are genetically and/or environmentally predisposed to like the taste chocolate, so if somebody doesn't like it, there is a reason for it. Maybe they got ill from eating too much chocolate once or maybe they can't eat brown things because it reminds them of feces. There is a reason for everything.

Actually, you are right, I wouldn't be satisfied by than answer. If they said they didn't like chocolate, I'd ask if it was because it was too sweet, or too bitter, or they dont like the way it melts in their mouth, or if it's the fact that it sticks to their teeth, or if it's because they get a bit of a tummy ache afterwards. I'd ask if they tried white chocolate, or milk chocolate or dark chocolate, and that if they didn't like one maybe they should try the other.

But I agree, some people inherently don't like some tastes. Are you saying that inherently you don't like giant robots? That somehow they rub you up the wrong way and you shiver just at the thought of them?

"Options" have hidden costs. What he means is that, for standard balanced play, a Civ must have recourse to the GDR in the late game. Nothing prevents a modder from removing it, but a late-game heavy civilization/strat will likely become underpowered as a result.

So you *do* have the option, it just isn't a sanctioned option. Forcing you to download a "no GDR" mod is the Devs way of putting a "Game no longer guaranteed to be balanced" sticker on the option.

Unbelievable.

ChristofferC and Lord Olleus, i belive that there is no answer that would satisfy you two.

Uhh.. Well.. I would just say to the guy that doesnt like chocolate that: It is a matter of taste.

Bravo! You got it!

It would be great if Lord Olleus and ChristofferC would also understand this and stop demanding reasons from why i dont like GDR :)

I just dont like em in civ game and thats it

EDIT: Also because it IS a matter of taste, the future era (giant death robots etc) should be optional

I don't like the medieval era because I don't like knights. Can I have that optional too? :mischief:

Oh, and I don't like libraries. They all stuffy and full of wrinkly librarians. I'd like that optional as well thanks. ;)

umm, just saw this thread. This isn't serious is it? I really don't want to read all 10 pages.

Having a robot with 2 legs is not an efficient or good tactical design. There's a serious weakness (the legs obviously). It's why I always though the game Mechwarrior was silly. If you look at what the military is developing now it isn't 2 legged mechs, it's more insect like ones, or ones that use tracks.

Medieval era has been in every civ game because it is essential in a game that goes trhough history of mankind. Im sorry to tell you this but it cannot be optional. The same goes with libraries.

Im not sure why do you insist that the future era should not be optional. It would be great if you would have "No future techs" option when you are starting lets say a custom game.

Why it should not be optional?

Yes!!!

This game just keeps getting more and more awesome, can't wait!!!

What I think would be really funny is opening up the WB sometime around 1980 and plopping one of these babies down next to a city called 'Sarah Conner'

Civ 5 has officially gone stupid...
I'm glad I already cancelled my preorder when the D2D thing was announced. [pissed]

wait you cancelled your pre-order because a better pre-order came out..

You might have considered pre-ordering the better pre-order rather than trying to boycot the game.

Why it should not be optional?

Hmm. In the games I play, anything from about Industrial on is optional.

Im not too sure what are you trying to say with that but i usually play the time victory -thing (or what was it called) where you play until you get to the year 2050 and then the civ wins wich has the most points by that year.

So my games would surely include giant death robots and i dont like that.

Those future units should be optional

I really hope they remove archers from the game because I really dislike f k n archers! They don't belong in vanilla version at all!

Yeah! I hate them too! Away with them! Make them optional!

I just wish they had more legs, and a BONUS attacking cites.

I want them to have more guns! And a bonus against skeptics! Against all who oppose them!

A Giant Death Robot is not made of chocolate.

:goodjob:

I wouldn't demand reasons from you for disliking them. However I would demand reasoning behind "I don't like them. It's the only thing in the game I hate, therefore it doesn't belong there! Or should be made optional! Even though I don't have any reasons besides simply not liking them."

There are many things people don't like about the game and it's fine, it's perfectly normal to not like stuff. I have a few things about the game I don't like. Should they make every possible feature and whatnot optional? Based on the amount of complains about every possible aspect of the game on these threads, I don't think that even this would help.

If firaxis just said: "You know what? Screw this, the game won't come out at all.", I wouldn't blame them...

EDIT: Making eras optional is a good idea though. I would love to be stuck in classical era...

Maybe a more universally appealing direction to go for 'future weapons' would have been to include existing technology - which already goes beyond the most advanced units we saw in Civ4 - and maybe extrapolate slightly, rather than just make something up.
