The Biggest, Baddest Unit

not necessary, the jet fighter gives you a look at the surrounding terrain (within 8 hexes or something)at the beginning of each turn, or something like that.

Cool so they still have recon missions or some alternative, I was thinking the UAV could of been introduced to do this but thats fine too.

God, we're still whining about a handful of electrons that aren't really going to matter? 1000 hammers to build; no one will ever build one except as a challenge. That's it.

I'd like them to give it better stats and make it something that would actually be something we'd want to build. An almost all powerful unit that costs too much to ever build and comes after most of us have endedthe game? Waste of programming resources. One that's actually balanced and might be built? Better.

What THE HELL? this is a CIV game not some stupid Japanese anime:mad: Why is something like that in the game

Yeah, this is so stupid. Remove it, please. And, people will be building it. It doesn't cost much more than a Jet Fighter, and there are probably a lot of things (well, some ships, tanks, nukes, perhaps some buildings although I doubt that since wonders are cheap (150 hammers for the Pyramids to give an example (although, early in the game, that's quite a lot). that will be more expensive than that, so...

GDR's are a brilliant addition to Civ!

Finally, there will be a reason to finish a game: to watch your Giant Death Robots march across the world.

I have only one question: will there be an option to allow only the production of GDRs and no other units?

Considering that modern armor is only 400 hammers, and the GDR comes only at an end-game, dead-end tech, has no defense against nukes or air, needs uranium, and has no defensive bonuses...

It won't be overpowered, or even practical.

I love the look of it. Not clunky Mechwarrior-like, but not the average Gundam either. Reminds me of Metal Gear!

I believe it's a fine addition, but Civ5 might need more near-future units. It's always been silly that the game 'ends' in 2050, but the tech tree only goes up to 2000 or so.

EDIT: To those that wouldn't like a near-future tech period, I'm sure there will be a mod or two that gets rid of it, if not an official, in-game option. No reason to get upset, really.

Civ has always had "funny" or not so serious elements. Elvis going back to the initial civ games, Beep Beep Beep for Satellites (hilarious btw), Cathy's dialog, infact the overall "hotness/outfits" of some of the female leaders, the tips that "snacks are good in moderation" and the wink to The Princess Bride about land wars in Asia, etc.

Care for some salad? I made it myself;)

not in the way your thinking it, its an automatic bonus, and you can still fight with your jets, not waste one on recon, although there might well be a recon ability as well.

The GDR will have a special anti-tank cannon that shoots anti-tank spears, that pierce through tank armor and kill the crew!!!

I love it. I also love the outrage among the more "serious" players. That's almost as funny as the initial announcement.

I'm fairly certain this is a joke. But even if it isn't, who cares? One stupid unit (especially one so late in the game, presumably) will (probably) not ruin the entire game.

Seriously what makes people still think this is a joke even though we've seen it confirmed from gameplay footage?

I'm sorry; I have not seen said footage. Would you mind linking to it?

Then don't build one. They cost 1000 hammers, which is 200 more than the Utopia Project (which wins the game) or any other project. Even after you build it, it is only useful if you can get it to the front. It is there, but I am willing to bet the majority of games will never see one.
where you getting that info from?

I'm sorry; I have not seen said footage. Would you mind linking to it?

Well the original screen shot was not from a released video I don't think but from Azazels screenshot's which needed to be removed, but I can still show you my little clipping of the screen shot I made.

We've also seen the Civilopedia entry from somewhere, and it confirmed all this

Giant Death Robot

Movement: 3; Strength 150; Ranged Strength: 0; Required Resource: Uranium
Technology: Nuclear Fusion
Penalty Attacking Cities, No Defensive Bonuses, Can Move After Attacking.

... Godzilla. Have him come around and stomp some cities into splinters.

/not serious... perhaps in a Civilization V mod, maybe.
